2023No Twins game today, scheduled day off.

2022 – The Twins lost to the Angels by a score of 10-3, losing the three-game series and making them 20-22-6 in series play this season. Dylan Bundy (8-8) was the starter and loser, allowing five runs (4 earned) on seven hits in 3.1 innings pitched with two walks and two strikeouts. Ronny Henriquez made his second major league appearances and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, with three hits allowed, one walk and four strikeouts. The offense recorded 11 hits, including two apiece from Jose Miranda, Carlos Correa and Gio Urshela. But what really got everyone excited was the fact that catcher Caleb Hamilton recorded his first career hit, an eighth-inning solo home run off José Quijada; becoming the 14th different Twin (since 1961) to record a home run as his first hit, and the second this season. Matt Wallner also did it on Sept. 17 at Cleveland. Hamilton has been with the Twins off and on for 17 games since July 17 and got his big hit on his 13th AB. The Twins now have a day off and then take on the visiting Chicago White Sox in the final home series of the season. Box Score

2021 – The Twins lost to the Blue Jays by a score of 6-1. The Twins held a special pregame ceremony to induct Canada native Justin Morneau into the club’s Hall of Fame. John Gant (5-10) was the starter and loser, allowing two runs (1 earned) on three hits in 3 innings pitched. The offense recorded just three hits, one going for extra-bases, a Josh Donaldson double (25). Mitch Garver drove in the club’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the first inning. The Twins left 8 men on the bases and were 0 for 6 with RISP. The attendance was 27,183 — the highest for the club this month. Box Score

2020 – The Twins lost to the Cincinnati Reds at Target Field by a score of 7-2 and with the win the Reds clinched their first playoff spot since 2013. José Berríos (5-4) was the starter and loser, allowing four runs on five hits in 5 innings pitched. Edwar Colina made his major league debut, allowing three runs on four hits in 0.1 innings pitched. It wasn’t a great debut for Colina but we all have to start somewhere and I think he will be a good one. (As it turns out it was his last appearance in a Twins uniform also as in 2021 he underwent two surgeries on his arm and was picked up off waivers by the Texas Rangers in September 2021.) The offense recorded eight hits, two each from both Eddie Rosario and Jorge Polanco. The Twins went 2-for-13 with runners in scoring position and left 11 men on base. The loss snapped a six-game home win streak, matching the club’s season high. It was bad enough that the Twins lost the game but worse yet they also lost Josh Donaldson and Byron Buxton due to injuries. Donaldson experienced cramping in his right calf, the same one that kept him out for a good portion of the season. The Buxton injury was more scary as he was beaned by a Lucas Sims 91 mile per hour fastball in the eighth inning. With two games to play, Minnesota maintains a one game lead on Chicago and Cleveland in the division, due to the White Sox loss to the Cubs last night and Cleveland’s win over Pittsburgh. Box Score

2019 – The Twins clinch and win the AL Central for the seventh time and first time since 2010. The Twins get this one done in quick fashion (2 hours & 32 minutes) and walk away with a 5-2 win after trailing 1-0 for the first six innings. Randy Dobnak (2-1) was the starter and winner, allowing one unearned run on one hit in six innings pitched. Tyler Duffey, Trevor May and Zack Littell combined to pitch three scoreless innings of relief. Dobnak (6 IP, 1 H, 0 BB, 0 HBP) was the second rookie in Twins franchise history to throw at least 6  innings in a game while allowing no more than one batter to reach safely via hit, walk, or hit-by-pitch. On September 14, 1954, Camilo Pascual gave up one hit and nothing else over seven relief innings in a 4-2 Washington Senators loss at Cleveland (courtesy: Elias Sports Bureau). Luis Arraez (4) and Eddie Rosario (32) each hit home runs and each had two RBI to pace the Twins attack. Box Score

2018 – Playing at home Joe Mauer singled to left in the first inning, his trademark opposite-field single, it was his 3,073 time that Mauer has reached base, breaking a tie with Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew for the most in Twins history and he came around to score on a Jorge Polanco double. The Twins employed their “Opener” strategy again and Gabriel Moya pitched a scoreless first and then the twins brought in their “Primary” pitcher Kohl Stewart who shutout the Detroit Tigers for the next six innings allowing just two hits and striking out five. The Twins then brought in Trevor Hildenberger who has struggled mightily of late and he retired just one batter, allowing a walk and three singles and was charged with four runs, a blown Save and the loss. The second-place Twins scored one in the bottom of the eighth but that was a close as they would get in the 4-2 loss to the third-place Ron Gardenhire managed Tigers. Three more Twins errors today but none actually led to any runs scoring. With the 35-year-old Joe Mauer not saying if he will continue to play past this season many Twins fans are wondering if this is the last chance for them to see Joe Mauer play ball. Box Score

2017 – No Game Today

2014 – Max Scherzer and the 88 win Tigers best Trevor May and the 68 win Twins by a 4-2 score at Comerica Park. Scherzer wins game number 18 and Joe Nathan notches save number 34. The Twins had only 5 hits and struck out 12 times. Box Score

The Minnesota Twins and CenturyLink today announced an expansion of their long-standing, multi-faceted partnership, which will now include naming rights for the CenturyLink Sports Complex in Fort Myers, Florida now known as the Lee County Sports Complex. Since its inception in 1991, the newly named CenturyLink Sports Complex remains the year-round player development center and Spring Training home of the Minnesota Twins. In Minneapolis, CenturyLink helps provide a state-of-the-art fan experience at Target Field as the Official Communications Provider for the Minnesota Twins and Target Field. The Twins and CenturyLink have also extended their sponsorship agreement at Target Field. Terms and duration of the agreement were not disclosed.

2010 – The Twins scored five runs in the first inning and another five in the fifth before dropping an 11-10 decision in 13 innings at Comerica Park. Starter Carl Pavano and eight other Twins pitchers gave up 21 hits to the Detroit Tigers batters. Danny Valencia hit two home runs and had 5 RBI and Jason Kubel also had a home run. Denard Span had four hits including a double, a stolen base and a RBI. The game took four hours and 19 minutes to play. It was the first time since relocating to Minnesota in 1961 that the Twins lost a game in which they scored at least five runs in each of two different innings. It happened only one other time in franchise history. That was on July 1, 1907, when the Washington Senators suffered a 16-15 loss to the Highlanders in the first game of a doubleheader at New York’s Hilltop Park. Box Score

2008 – The Twins cap a thrilling three-game sweep of the Mighty Whities to reclaim first place in the AL Central. The team came back from a 6-1 deficit at the Metrodome to win the game on Alexi Casilla’s walk-off single in the 10th inning for a 7-6 victory. The Twins bullpen pitched 6.1 scoreless innings with Joe Nathan going the last two innings for the win. Carlos Gomez hitting ninth was 4 for 5 with two triples and a double and two RBI. Denard Span and Joe Mauer had three hits each. After the game, manager Gardenhire was quoted as saying “I can’t even breathe” while closer Joe Nathan said that “this was the most intense series I have ever been a part of”. On the other side of the coin, White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen sighed and said “We wasted 26 innings in this town.” Attendance was 43,601. Box Score

2006 – The Twins beat the Kansas City Royals 8-1 at the Metrodome and clinch at least a wildcard playoff spot. It has been an amazing run from a 25-33 start and 11 1/2 games out of first as of June 7th. Twins starter and winner Boof Bonser goes 6.2 innings and allows just one run on two hits. Justin Morneau gets two hits including a home run and 3 RBI, Torii Hunter gets two hits including a home run, double, stolen base and two RBI. Though he had no home runs, Nick Punto had three hits and a RBI. Box Score

2000 – In only the second three-team doubleheader in the majors since 1900 and first since Sept. 13, 1951, the Cleveland Indians played host to two different teams, beating the White Sox 9-2 in game one before losing to Minnesota 4-3 in game two. It was the Indians’ third doubleheader in six days. By the time Minnesota’s players arrived at the ballpark for their 4-3 win in Cleveland on Monday night, the only trace that Chicago had used the visitor’s clubhouse earlier in a 9-2 loss to the Indians was a pair of white socks left behind by one of the White Sox players. In game two the Indians jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Twins and Minnesota starter Matt Kinney but Minnesota bounced back with one run in the fifth and three more in the eighth with two RBI by Torii Hunter and one by Jacque Jones and won the game 4 to 3. Reliever Travis Miller got the win and LaTroy Hawkins got the save. Box Score game two

1965 – The Twins Mudcat Grant one-hits the Washington Senators to win the first game of the doubleheader 5 – 0 at D.C. Stadium. Zoilo Versalles goes 4 for 5 with a home run and a triple, scores twice and has 2 RBI on the day. This is Mudcat’s 20th win of the season and he becomes the first African-American pitcher to win 20 games in the American League. Box Score
