2023 – The Twins losing streak reached four games when the Twins were pounded by the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park by a score of 13-2 in front of 33,071 of those Phillies fans. Dallas Keuchel (0-1) was the starter and loser, allowing six runs on six hits in 1.2 innings pitched, with two walks and no strikeouts. The offense recorded seven hits and walked four times. Jorge Polanco went 2-for-4 and hit his seventh home run of the season. Max Kepler went back-to-back with Polanco in the second inning and hit his team-leading 19th homer of the season. Recent outfield acquisition Jordan Luplow took the mound in the eighth inning, at one point imitating Craig Kimbel’s signature gesture . Luplow faced five batters, hitting one and allowing a home run and two runs. Luplow becomes the seventeenth Twins position player to pitch. The Twins record dropped to 60-58 but the still hold a 3.5 game lead over the Guardians. It was the 41st time the Twins have scored two or fewer runs in a game this season. Box Score

2022No Twins game today, scheduled day off.

2021 – The Twins win their 50th game of the season when they shutout the visiting Chicago White Sox 1-0. Rookie Baily Ober made his thirteenth start for the Twins and pitched 5.1 shutout innings striking our six and allowing six hits but received his sixth-straight ND for his work today. Alex Colome got the save.  A crowd of 22,370 Wednesday afternoon fans witnessed the game at Target Field and saw the Twins finish their season series against the first place White Sox with a record of 6-13. A red hot Jorge Polanco who was 2 for 4 today hit his 21st home run of the season and it was the only score of the game. The teams were a combined 0 for 9 with RISP. Box Score

2020 – The Twins went with a bullpen game today using Tyler Clippard as their opener. The Twins blasted off the starting line with home runs by Jorge Polanco and Eddie Rosario in the first inning to take a quick 2-0 lead but Milwaukee came back with a run in the bottom of the frame. The Twins scored two more in the third on another home run by Eddie Rosario, this one a two-run blast and took a 4-1 lead after three. But it was all Brewers after that as they scored five unanswered runs and held on for a 6-4 win at Miller Park. The Twins had ten hits with Byron Buxton getting three including a SB and Rosario and Polanco had two hits each. Taylor Rogers (1-2) gave up a two run home run to Jedd Gyorko in the eighth inning and took the loss. Manny Pina hit two home runs for the Brewers. Box Score

In off the field news the Minnesota Twins purchase Ildemaro Vargas from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

2019 – The Twins have a chance to stretch their lead over Cleveland to two games with a win today but instead fall behind early with Jose Berrios on the mound. Berrios gets a ND for his efforts on this day when he gives up 6 hits, 3 runs, and strikes out just 4 batters. The Indians are up 3-1 going into the bottom of the ninth inning with ace closer Brad Hand on the mound for Cleveland who is trying to regain a tie for first place. In the bottom of the ninth the 37,849 fans get all excited when Eddie Rosario doubles but Mitch Garver strikes out for the first out of the inning. The incredible rookie Luis Arraez singles scoring Rosario and the Twins are down just 3-2 with a runner at first. After a 10-pitch at bat CJ Cron singles and the Twins have runners at first and second with just out out. Baldelli brings in Ehire Adrianza to run for Cron. Marwin Gonzalez doubles off the left field wall to score Arraez and tie the game at 3-3 but Adrianza is thrown out at the plate by 10-15 feet for the second out. This is the second day in a row that a Twins runner has been sent by third base coach Tony Diaz and thrown out at home by 10-15 feet. WTF would you do that? The next batter Jonathan Schoop grounds out to third and we go in to extra innings. The Twins bring in Taylor Rogers who just went two innings and threw 31 pitches yesterday to keep the Indians off the board. Catcher Kevin Plawecki starts the tenth inning with an “emergency hack” as Danny Gladden likes to say and singles to right, Francisco Lindor draws a walk and the Twins are in trouble. Greg Allen steps to the plate to move the runners up but his bunt is so hard it gets past Rogers and all of a sudden the bases are loaded, no outs and the hot Carlos Santana steps to the plate. On a 2-1 count Santana deposits a GS home run in the grassy area in center field and the score is 7-3 Indians and it stays that way when the Twins go down meekly in bottom of the tenth against Hunter Wood. So the Twins end their ten game homestand with a 5-5 record, not exactly what Twins fans were expecting. The 71-47 Twins have tomorrow off but then take on the Brew Crew in Milwaukee. Twins twitter is abuzz with FIRE coach Tony Diaz rants and Baldelli’s use of Taylor Rogers. Box Score

2018 – The Twins have a scare in the bottom of the ninth but managed to hold off the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park 4-3. Kyle Gibson started and turned over a nice 4-1 lead after seven innings but Trevor Hildenberger who was getting the Twins first save opportunity since closer Fernando Rodney was traded to Oakland had a bit of an issue when he walked the first batter in the ninth and then gave up a home run to former Twin Niko Goodrum to make it a 4 to 3 game. The next Tiger batter also got a single and then Hildenberger retired the next three batters for the save, you could say he did it just like Fernando Rodney would have done it. Newly acquired Tyler Austin playing in his first game for Minnesota made a nice impression when he hit a two-run homer in the fifth off former Twin Francisco Liriano for a 3-1 Twins lead that they would not relinquish. 2017 – The Twins whip the Tigers on the road 9-4 getting 16 hits in the process. Outfielders Max Kepler, Byron Buxton, and Eddie Rosario each have a great game. The Twins outfield motto is “nothing falls but raindrops”. Rosario gets 3 hits, one of which is a 3 run homer and Kepler keeps pace with 3 hits of his own and a 2 run homer. Byron Buxton had just one hit but made an amazing somersaulting catch in deep center field off Tiger star Miguel Cabrera. Ryan Pressly get the win in relief of Kyle Gibson who did not last 5 innings. 2015 – The home team won all 15 games on the MLB slate. That’s the most games in one day, all won by the home team, in major league history. The previous record was 12 games on May 23, 1914. There were three major leagues in 1914, the National (four games that day), American (four) and Federal (four), which had a two-year lifespan (1914 and 1915).

The Twins did their share by scoring two in the eight and one in the ninth to walk off the visiting Texas Rangers 3-2 at Target Field when Kurt Suzuki walked with two out and Eduardo Escobar doubled him home. Kyle Gibson went six innings allowing two runs bu received a ND for his work. Glen Perkins notched his first win of the season in relief. Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano each were 2 for 3 with a double. 2014Joe Mauer delivers a two-run single in the top of the ninth with two out to lead the Twins to a 4-2 win over the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park. 2013Brian Dozier hits a 3-run homer and Joe Mauer hits a 2-run homer and the Twins go on to beat the hapless 44-71 Chicago White Sox in the windy city behind the very nice start from Kevin Correia who goes 7 innings striking out 7 and allowing just five hits and no runs for the win. Box Score

The Twins dealt utility infielder Jamey Carroll to the Kansas City Royals for either cash or a PTBNL. Turns out the Twins took the money.

2011 – No game today, scheduled day off.

2005No game today, scheduled day off.

2001 – The Twins have more hits than the Rays at Tropicana Field but the Rays have more runs when the counting is done and more importantly they get the “W” in a 4-3 Twins loss. David Ortiz, Torii Hunter and Corey Koskie all hit home runs for the Twins but they are all with the bases empty. Twins starter Brad Thomas has a bad run of 3’s and lasts just 3 innings, gives, up 3 runs on 3 hits and walks 3. Box Score

Put this down in your list of strange and unusual. In a 4-3 loss to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at Tropicana Field Minnesota first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz makes all 3 put outs in the bottom of the 2nd without touching first base. The Devil Rays have Toby Hall on third base and Randy Winn on first with no outs in the inning when Aubrey Huff hits a weak grounder to Mientkiewicz. The first sacker crosses the diamond to chase Hall back to third, then tags out Winn who had run all the way around from first. Mientkiewicz then catches Hall wandering off the base to complete an unassisted double play. The next Rays’ batter‚ Jared Sandberg‚ hits a towering foul pop-up that Mientkiewicz catches for the third out.

1994No game today, scheduled day off.

1982 – Twins Terry Felton (0-11) is the losing pitcher in 6-3 loss to California at the Metrodome, dropping his career record to 0-14, the worst individual start in ML history. Felton will never win a ML game, finishing his career with an 0-16 record. Terry owns two dubious major league records, most losses (16) in a career with zero wins and most losses in a single season without a win with 13 in 1982. As far as the game is concerned, the Twins did have a 3-0 lead after five innings but the Angels scored the next six runs and held the Twins off the board for the win. Former Twins pitcher Dave Goltz nearing the end of his career got the save for the Angels. Box Score

1980No game today, scheduled day off.

1974 – The Twins out hit the Orioles 12 to 6 and more importantly out score Baltimore 5-4. The Twins celebrated Harmon Killebrew day at Met Stadium. The Twins beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 and Harmon goes 2 for 3 with a run scored and 2 RBI’s as the Twins DH. Bobby Darwin was 3 for 4 with a double and a RBI and Jerry Terrell went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Dave Goltz went the first six innings for the win and Bill Campbell went the final three for the save. “They say a day like this usually means a player isn’t far from his end,” Killebrew told the crowd of 27,363. The words proved to be prophetic as the Twins let Harmon go after the 1974 season (at his request) and he signed with the Kansas City Royals for one final season. Box Score

Tony Oliva was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and Zoilo Versalles was 2 for 4 with a stolen base and scored twice. The win moves the Twins to second place just 1.5 games behind the White Sox. Box Score

1961 – The Twins are glad to be home again for the first time since July 27th and a great crowd of 34,117 fans shows up at Met stadium to watch and the Twins don’t disappoint. The starters are Paul Foytack, 7-6 for the second place Detroit Tigers and Pedro Ramos 9-12 for our Minnesota Twins, The Twins jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in the second on a solo blast by catcher Earl Battey and it is a 1-0 game until the Tigers push a run across in the fifth to tie up the game 1-1. Battey again unloads on Foytack in the seventh with his 12 home run of the season, another sole blast, and the Twins are back in front 2-1. Ramos gives up just a single the rest of the way and the Twins win their fourth straight game against the high-flying Tigers. Battey complained before the game about the “lack of hits in this protective batting helmet I’ve worn since I was beaned”. Battey was hit in the head by a pitch from Bobby Locke of the Cleveland Indians on July 22. Since he resumed playing, Battey has worn a helmet with an ear flap on the left side to protect his cheek. Battey had two of the teams six hits. Ramos upped his record to 9-13 with his complete game win as he allowed just six hits and one walk while striking out ten. The Twins victory jumped them two spots in the standings to seventh place. Box Score
