2023 – The Twins beat the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park by a score of 8-1. Pablo López (8 6) was the starter and winner, pitching 6 shutout innings with four hits allowed, one walk and seven strikeouts. The offense recorded 11 hits and walked seven times — six of which came off Phillies starter Taijuan Walker, their most against a starter since drawing six against Shohei Ohtani on September 23, 2022. Joey Gallo tied his single-game career highs in hits (4) and times on base (5), recording his 17th multi-homer game, while tying his season high with four RBI. 0 strikeouts for Gallo, only the third time this year he has had 5 PA’s without a whiff. 2022 – The back on the winning track Twins shut out the Angels in Anaheim by a score of 4-0. The win snapped a three-game losing streak as Minnesota remains one of three teams in baseball yet to post a losing streak of four-plus games in 2022, joining New York-NL and Atlanta. Tyler Mahle (6-7) made his second start as a Twin, pitching 6 shutout innings with three hits allowed, two walks and six strikeouts and got the win. It marked the first time for a Twins starter to pitch at least six shutout innings since Josh Winder did it on June 28 at Cleveland. The offense recorded nine hits, highlighted by Gio Urshela, who went 3-for-4 and fell a triple short of the cycle. Gilberto Celestino started the scoring with a two-run homer in the second inning, his first homer of the season and third of his career. Box Score

2021 No game today, scheduled day off.

2020 – The Twins show no mercy and pound the Milwaukee Brewers 12-2 at Miller Park as every starter gets at least one hit while Byron Buxton homers twice (5) and Miguel Sano (4) does it once. In spite of having a 12-2 lead the Twins pulled starter Kenta Maeda after 85 pitches and two runners got on base in the seventh inning with two out. Maeda notched career win number 50 and win number three on the season with no losses. The Twins end their eight game road-trip with a 3-5 record and finally get a day off after playing for 16 straight days. Box Score

2019 – No Game Today but the Cleveland Indians played and walked off the Boston Red Sox ending the Minnesota Twins streak of 134 days in first place and take over the lead in the AL Central by a half game.

2018 – The Twins call up Kohl Stewart, their first round pick and fourth overall from 2013 to make his major league debut in a start against the Tigers. Stewart does fine until the fifth inning when he gives up some hits and walks in a run and is taken out after 4.1 innings and 74 pitches with 3 runs allowed on 8 hits, 1 walk and 1 strike out. The Twins offense didn’t provide much support either getting just four hits but one of those was a home run by Max Kepler. Johnny Field had the other RBI with a Sac Fly. Box Score

2000 – In game action, the Twins beat the visitors from Canada, the Blue Jays by a 6-3 score. Twins starter Mark Redman got his 11th win of the season with 6 innings of six hit ball with just one Toronto runner crossing the plate. Torii Hunter was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 RBI and David Ortiz was 3 for 5 with a double and a RBI. Box Score

The Twins 40th anniversary All-Time Team took part in an on the field pre-game ceremony and a poster depicting the All-Time Team was given to the first 10,000 fans in attendance. In addition, Harmon Killebrew, Rod Carew, Tony Oliva, Kent Hrbek, Kirby Puckett, and Calvin Griffith were inducted as charter members into the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame.

1994 – The 1994–95 Major League Baseball strike was the eighth and longest work stoppage in baseball history, as well as the fourth in-season work stoppage in 22 years. The strike began on August 12, 1994, and resulted in the remainder of that season, including the postseason and the World Series, being canceled.

1984 – Harmon Killebrew, Rick Ferrell, Don Drysdale, Pee Wee Reese, and Luis Aparicio are inducted into the Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, New York. Harmon becomes the first Minnesota Twins player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, N.Y. Harmon was selected in his fourth year of eligibility.

In on the field action the Minnesota Twins were up to the task at hand also as Frank Viola pitched a shutout at the Seattle Mariners in the Kingdome beating them 3-0 and allowing just 6 hits in 9 innings. The big hitter today was left fielder Andre David who has never had more than one hit in a MLB game but gets 4 of them today including 2 doubles in 5 at bats.

1982No game today, scheduled day off.

1979 – Jerry Koosman pitches a complete game, 10 hit shutout as the Twins beat the Oakland A’s 1-0 at the Met. The games only run scores when Mike Cubbage (who goes 3 for 3 in the game) singles and is doubled home by Danny Goodwin who is told to swing away by Gene Mauch after fouling off a bunt attempt trying to move Cubbage to second. Koosman wins his 14th game as he strikes out 4, walks none and picks a runner off first base. You had to drink your beer fast that day because the game only lasted 1 hour and 43 minutes. Box Score

1974No game today, scheduled day off.

1967 – A record crowd of 47,643 (8,414 were knotholer’s) at the Met cheered on the Twins as if they had just won the World Series as they came from behind to beat the Chicago White Sox 6-2. The Twins were down 2-0 entering the bottom of the sixth before a Rollins bunt and a White Sox error scored the Twins first run and eventually a second run on a ground out to tie the game. In the seventh inning another error and a Bob Allison 3-run homer and the Twins were just a half game out of the division lead. Jim Kaat went the distance to notch the victory. Box Score

1961 – The (73-41) Detroit Tigers crush the (48-67) Twins at Metropolitan Stadium by a 17-3 score. Not exactly how the Twins wanted their streak of one-run games to end. Jim Bunning pitches a complete game for the Tigers win allowing just six hits and three runs. Twins starter Don Lee lasted just 3.2 innings and allowed 8 runs, all earned. The Tigers out hit Minnesota 17 to 6.  Box Score
