Twins Minor League POW are Trey Cabbage and Sawyer Gipson-Long

In week 17 AA Wichita Wind Surge outfielder/1B/DH Trey Cabbage and High A Cedar Rapids Kernels pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the Week. Both are repeat winners this year, this is Cabbage’s second time this and for Gipson-Long it is his third time. Congratulations to Trey and Sawyer!

Trey Cabbage was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 4th round of the 2015 MLB June Amateur Draft from Grainger HS (Rutledge, TN). Cabbage started the season with Cedar Rapids and was promoted to Wichita on June 28.

Cabbage, 24, played six games for the Wind Surge, hitting .500 (8-for-16) with three home runs, 10 RBI, nine walks, a .680 on-base percentage and a 1.063 OPS. In 51 games at Wichita, Cabbage has hit 16 home runs and has 42 RBI and is slashing .262/.355/.560.

Sawyer-Gipson-Long was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 6th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft from Mercer University (Macon, GA). Sawyer started the season with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels and took his next step up the organization ladder to Cedar Rapids on August 9.

Gipson-Long, 23, made one start for the Kernels on August 20, allowing one unearned run on three hits in 6 innings pitched with one walk and eight strikeouts, earning his first win at High-A. In his short time in Cedar Rapids, Gipson-Long is 2-1 in 3 starts and has a 2.12 ERA, a 1.12 WHIP and in 17 innings he has struck out 26 batters.

  1. Saw the Twins beat the Sox last Wednesday.
    Was impressed by Bailey Ober and he followed up with a
    good game Monday.
    Perhaps the future is not as bleak as this season
    would indicate.
