2023 – The Houston Astros eliminated the Minnesota Twins from post-season action in game 4 of the ALDS when they beat Minnesota 3-2. Astros starter Jose Urquidy pitched 5.2 innings allowing 2 runs on 3 hits while striking out 6. The Astros bullpen didn’t allow a hit the rest of the way striking out 8 of the 11 batters they faced and didn’t allow any hits. Joe Ryan started for the twins but lasted just 2 innings allowing a run on 2 hits. The losing pitcher was Caleb Thielbar who allowed a two-run homer to Jose Abreau in the fourth inning. The Twins had just 3 hits, Edouard Julien had a home run and a double and Royce Lewis also had a home run. Temperature at first pitch was 57 degrees and the attendance was a 40,977 sellout. Once again for us Twins fans it is wait until next year. Box Score

2009 – The Twins had a 1-0 lead after six but the New York Yankees came back to beat the Twins 4-1 and in the process sweep the ALDS three games to zip. Carl Pavano pitched well going seven innings and allowing 2 runs on five hits but was the losing pitcher and Andy Pettitte was the winner for the Yanks. The NYY went on to win the World Series against the Phillies. This was the Twins final baseball game at the Metrodome as they open Target Field in April 2010. Box Score

2002 – The Twins lose game 3 of the 2002 ALCS 2 to 1 in Anaheim’s Edison Field and trail the series two games to one. JC Romero suffers the loss when he gives up a home run to Troy Glaus to lead off the bottom of the eighth inning. Dustan Mohr was 2 for 4 with a stolen base and scored the Twins only run. Eric Milton started and allowed just the one run on five hits in six innings. Box Score

1991 – The Blue Jays scored twice in the first and the Twins came back with single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie the game at 2-2. The Minnesota Twins score in the 10th inning on a Mike Pagliarulo home run off Mike Timlin and go up in the 1991 ALCS 2 games to 1 with a 3-2 win over the Blue Jays at the Skydome in Toronto. Mark Guthrie walks away with the win and Rick Aguilera retires the side in the bottom of the 10th for the save. Chuck Knoblauch and Kirby Puckett had two hits each. Box Score

1987 – The Twins take game 4 of the 1987 ALCS from the Detroit Tigers in Detroit by a 5-3 final score in front of 51,939 baseball fans. Greg Gagne hits his 2nd ALCS home run in 2 days and Kirby Puckett bangs out a long ball too as Frankie “sweet music” Viola gets the win. The Twins have a commanding 3-1 game lead in the series. 1968 –  Billy Martin is named as the Minnesota Twins manager. Martin replaces Cal Ermer and becomes the 4th ever Twins skipper.

1965 – The Los Angeles Dodgers scored early and often and Dodgers starter Sandy Koufax threw a four-hit shutout while striking out 10 in a 7-0 shellacking of the Twins at Dodger Stadium. The Dodgers had 14 hits in the game but no home runs. The Dodgers were running wild and stole four bases including three by Willie Davis who sets a single game World Series record. Earl Battey did manage to nail one of the runners. The crowd of 55,801 saw the Dodgers take a 3-2 lead in the series as the final two games would be played in Minnesota. Box Score

1900 – Washington D.C. was awarded a franchise in the soon to be American League. This franchise was the Washington Senators who six decades later became the modern-day Minnesota Twins.
