2023No Twins game today, scheduled day off.

2022 – PUT THE BROOMS AWAY, TWINS DROP FINALE IN 10 ON SOUTH SIDE: The Twins lost to the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field by a score of 9-8 in 10 innings, losing five different leads. Joe Ryan was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing three runs (2 earned) on five hits in 4 innings (85 pitches) pitched. The bullpen combined for six runs allowed on nine hits in 5 innings of relief.  The Twins used seven pitchers today. The offense recorded 13 hits, including four from Luis Arraez, matching his career-high. Jorge Polanco hit two home runs, his 11th and 12th of the season, his fifth career multi-homer game. The loss was their sixth one-run defeat in their last 17 games. The White Sox trailed in this game five different times … and they won. Amazing. They trailed, 1-0 … and 3-1 … and 5-3 … and 6-5 … and 8-6. And they won. So how Strange and how True was that, you ask? Well, does it tell you anything that the last time it happened, it was a World Series Game 6 for the ages? As in: The David Freese Game in 2011. Which means there was one more Strange But True thing that happened here: The winning manager in both of those games was … the same guy (Tony La Russa). The 47-38 Twins are now off to Texas where they will enjoy a day off before taking on the Rangers. 2016 – Ervin Santana twirled a two-hit shutout and struck out eight in the Twins’ 4-0 victory over the A’s at Target Field. It was the first complete-game shutout by a Twins pitcher since Andrew Albers threw one in August 2013. Every other major-league team besides the Twins has had at least two complete-game shutouts over the last three seasons. The 453-game streak without a complete-game shutout by a starting pitcher is by far the longest such streak in Twins franchise history. 1983No Twins game today. The 1983 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 54th edition of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the American League (AL) and National League (NL). The game was held on July 6 at Comiskey Park in Chicago, the home of the Chicago White Sox of the American League. The Wednesday night game resulted in a 13–3 American League victory. The game celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of the All-Star Game, and occurred exactly 50 years to the date of the first All-Star game, also at Comiskey Park. This was the 54th game, as no game was held in 1945, while two were held each year from 1959 through 1962. The game was the first American League win in twelve years, and only the second AL win since 1962. The thirteen runs scored by the American League set a new record for one team in All-Star Game history. The ten-run margin of victory was the largest since the 12–0 American League victory in 1946. The game is perhaps best remembered for Fred Lynn’s grand slam off Atlee Hammaker of the Giants, part of a big third inning for the home team. As of 2023, it is still the only grand slam in the history of the Midsummer Classic. For this golden anniversary, there was also an “Old Timer’s Game” played on Tuesday, the day before the All-Star game. Because Independence Day was on Monday this year, the All-Star break did not begin until that evening, as the holiday included a full slate of day games. Gary Ward was the only Twins player selected for the ASG and he appeared as a pinch-hitter. Box Score

1962 – The 45-48 Twins faced off against the 43-33 New York Yankees at Met Stadium in front of 40,944 fans but Twins starter Camilo Pascual didn’t have it and the Yankees jumped on him early with back-to-back home runs by Maris and Mantle in the first inning and before the Twins even had a turn at bat they were down 4-0. The Twins fought back but they came up short in a 7-5 defeat. Pascual entered the game with a 12-4 record and a four game winning streak in which he had pitched a complete game each time out.  On this day he lasted just 3.2 innings and gave up 6 runs and took the loss.
