In a special pregame ceremony tonight, the Twins plan to honor the life and legacy of former VP, Player Personnel Mike Radcliff, who passed away in February after a courageous three-plus-year battle with cancer. Members of the Radcliff family that will be in attendance on Monday include Sherry, Mike’s wife; daughter, Erin, her husband, Kevin Kuchenrither, and sons Reece and Jaxon; son, Brett Radcliff; and Mike’s brothers Dan, David and Mitch Radcliff. Additionally, most of the Twins’ amateur scouting staff will be in attendance, along with some current and former professional scouts. Over the course of his 36-year tenure with the Twins, Radcliff provided guidance, mentorship and leadership across all areas of player evaluation – major league, minor league and amateur. He also helped oversee the club’s professional, amateur and international scouts. He was named 2011 Scout of the Year in the Midwest by his peers in Major League Baseball, was inducted into the Professional Scouts Hall of Fame in July of 2014 and elected to the Killebrew Root Beer Professional Scouts Hall of Fame in September 2021. In addition, Radcliff was the 2016 recipient of the George Genovese Lifetime Achievement Award in Scouting, given by the Professional Baseball Scouts Foundation, and the 2021 Herb Carneal Lifetime Achievement Award, voted on by the Diamond Awards Committee.
2022 – SOLO HOME RUNS CAN’T BEAT YOU THEY SAY, BUT THREE MIGHT: The Twins lost to the Orioles on a Sunday afternoon at Target Field by a score of 3-1, failing to record their fifth sweep of the season. Devin Smeltzer (4-2) was the starter and loser, allowing three runs on six hits (3 home runs) in 6 innings pitched. The offense recorded just four hits, going 1-for-5 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Another game with five or less hits and another defeat. The O’s finally ended a streak of 12 consecutive losses at Target Field, their last win here was in 2017. Former Twins prospect Tyler Wells held the Twins hitless into the fifth inning and with his win upped his record to 7-4. Box Score
2021 – It is a tough road-trip as the Twins lose their fifth game in a row, this time it is a 6-3 set-back to the Kansas City Royals and it marks the half-way point in one of the Twins most disappointing seasons. After 81 games the Minnesota Twins that everyone expected to be a serious contender in the American League instead are 33-48 and only the Baltimore Orioles with 27 wins have fewer victories than the Twins in the American League. Griffin Jax (1-1) made his first career start, allowing six runs on eight hits in five innings and getting his first career loss. Jax held the Royals scoreless for three innings until allowing four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth. The Twins didn’t exactly help Jax in the field with an error in the fourth and allowing a ball that seemed to be catchable drop for a single in the fifth in short right field. Jax showed his frustration with that misplay and regretted showing his emotions after the game. The offense recorded nine hits but was 1 for 5 with RISP and left nine ducks on the pond. Trevor Larnach hit home run number six after entering the game earlier as a PH. Larnach’s home run ended a streak of 33 consecutive appearances against the Twins by Greg Holland without giving up a home run, a streak that started in 2013. Box Score

2019 – The Twins who are just 5-5 in their last ten games come from behind to beat the Oakland A’s 4-3 in 12 innings and maintain their seven game lead over the second place Indians who won again. Kyle Gibson who started for Minnesota allowed three runs (two earned) in the second inning but held on to go six innings allowing five hits and 4 walks but managed to keep the A’s from doing any further damage. The Twins bullpen kept the A’s from scoring and the Twins finally pushed the lead run across in the top of the 12th inning when with one out Buxton and Kepler walked and Mitch Garver singled to left scoring the fleet-footed Buxton with what turned out to be the winning run. The game came to an end 4 hours and 40 minutes after it started with the two teams going a total of 3 for 25 with RISP. The 5’10” Luis Arraez who was called up in mid-May was 3 for 5 with a run scored and upped his average to .431 but he only has 65 at bats. The Twins record now stands at 54-31 and once again they dodged a bullet and managed to keep their longest losing streak of the season at two games. Box Score

Twins bring in reliever Ken Sanders Royals third baseman Paul Schaal greets him with his second home run of the game and the Royals walk off the Twins 7-6 at Royals Stadium. Bert Blyleven went eight innings for Minny but wasn’t particularly effective giving up 12 hits and two home runs. Larry Hisle was two for three with two RBI. Box Score
1968 – A serious pitchers duel here. Luis Tiant registers 19 K’s in 10 innings with no walks, as Cleveland beats Minnesota 1-0 at Cleveland Stadium. Tiant sets two modern ML records– most strikeouts in a 10-inning game; 32 strikeouts in consecutive games–and ties the modern ML record of 41 strikeouts in 3 successive appearances. He will top the AL in ERA in 1968 with a 1.60. Every Twins batter that stepped up to the plate with bat in hand struck out at least once and Jim Merritt struck out in each of his four plate appearances. Six different Twins batters each had one hit. The Indians won the game when Lou Johnson scored on a walk-off single by catcher Joe Azcue who was the only player in the game that had more than one hit. Johnson had singled and advanced to second base on a Cesar Tovar error. Both pitchers pitched complete games and Merritt only allowed four hits but unfortunately for him the last two were in the bottom of the 10th inning and cost him the game. Box Score

1961 – Camilo Pascual and the Twins had a seemingly comfortable 3-1 lead after six innings. But then in the seventh inning with the White Sox trailing 3-2 and the tying run on third with two out, the game was delayed for 48 minutes by rain and hail. When the game resumed, Pascual walked a batter and then a Bill Tuttle error, his second of the game, allowed the WSox to score and knot the game at 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh the Twins had the bases loaded with two out and a full count on Bob Allison when he connected for his third grand slam home run of the season putting the Twins up 7-3. The White Sox fought back with two in the eighth and scored one more in the ninth off reliever Pedro Ramos before he was able to nail down his second save of the year. Pascual’s win upped his record to 6-10 with 7.2 innings pitched allowing 9 hits and 4 walks while striking out nine. Allison’s GS was his 15th home run of the season and upped his RBI mark to 58.
