2023 – The Twins started the second half (post All-Star game) with a 5-4 victory at the Oakland Coliseum over the Athletics their 10th one-run win of the season. Kenta Maeda was the starter but did not have a part in the decision, allowing three runs on four hits, with four walks and six strikeouts in just 3 innings. Joey Gallo, who entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh, walloped a two-run, go ahead homer in the top of the ninth, his third career go-ahead homer in the ninth-or-later (who keeps track of stuff like this). The Twins’ offense tallied 10 hits on the night, their 30th game this season with at least 10 hits. Edouard Julien hit a pinch-hit double in the fourth inning and finished the night 2-for-3, his third-straight multi-hit game. Carlos Correa (2-for-5) and Donovan Solano (2-for-3) each also had two hits. At three hours, 28 minutes long, the game was the Twins’ longest nine-inning game of the season todate and the club’s longest nine-inning contest since a three-hour, 47-minute game against Los Angeles-AL on September 25, 2022. Griffin Jax (5-6) got the win and Shintaro Fujinami (5-8) took the loss. The Twins win brought their record up to 46-46 and they regained first place. Box Score

Sonny Gray (4-3) was the starter and loser, allowing six runs on nine hits in 3.2 innings pitched, with one walk and three strikeouts. The Twins fifth pitcher of the night was infielder/outfielder Nick Gordon who pitched 1 inning in relief giving up 3 runs on 4 hits in his second career appearance on the mound. The offense recorded 11 hits but left 10 runners stranded. Byron Buxton and Max Kepler each had two hits apiece. Kyle Garlick hit his seventh home run of 2022. Box Score

2021No game today, All-Star break.

2020 – The Minnesota Twins and all of baseball would be taking the day off for the All-Star game that was to be played at Dodger Stadium today if all the games this season would not have been postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19. 98 Twins games missed so far. It was the first All-Star game cancelation since 1945, when the All-Star Game that year was not held in compliance with wartime travel restrictions at the time. Dodger Stadium was awarded the 2022 All-Star Game in its place. Twins Summer Camp 2020 is underway at Target Field and CHS Field.

The All-Star game that never happened due to COVID-19.

2019 – A sweep apparently was not to be as the Twins lost to the Indians on Sunday afternoon by a score of 4-3. José Berríos was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing three runs on six hits in 5 innings of pitching. The Twins trailed 3-0 but tied the game at three in the seventh inning only to have Trevor May allow a go-ahead solo homer to Carlos Santana in the bottom half. The Indians bullpen shut down the Twins the rest of the way with Chaska product Brad Hand getting his 24th save of the season. Marwin Gonzalez had three of the teams seven hits including a double. 2018 – After losing games two days in a row at Target Field to the Twins the Tampa Bay Rays decided to put a serious shellacking on Paul Molitor’s boys by scoring five runs in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings for a 19-6 win. The 19 runs the Twins gave up today was the most they gave up in any 2018 game. Recently named All-Star pitcher Jose Berrios was beat up with six hits and six runs in six innings but did not get the loss. Twins relievers Zach Duke, Matt Belisle and position player Willians Astudillo all had a rough day. Utility player Astudillo pitched the ninth inning throwing 35 pitches in one inning and gave up 5 runs on 5 hits of which 2 were home runs. Max Kepler hit his 11th round-tripper of the season Eddie Rosario had 3 hits including a double in 5 at bats with two RBI.  Box Score

2016 – No Game Today

2015 – No game today. The MLB All-Star game was played at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. The American League All-Stars defeated the National League All-Stars by a score of 6–3. On July 15, 2014, Bud Selig also announced that Pete Rose would not be prohibited from participating in the 2015 All-Star Game ceremonies. Rose was an All-Star for 13 of the 19 seasons he played on the Reds and was a member of the Big Red Machine. In 1991, Rose was permanently banned from MLB for baseball betting. Rose, wearing a red sport coat, appeared on the field in front of the pitcher’s mound before the game and received a standing ovation alongside former teammates Johnny Bench, Barry Larkin, and Joe Morgan. A record 620 million All_Star votes were cast, surpassing the record of 391 million votes in 2012. However, MLB canceled at least 65 million ballots on grounds of fraud and ballot stuffing. At one point during the balloting, the top vote-getters for eight of the starting nine positions for the American League were Kansas City Royals players. Brian Dozier and Glen Perkins were selected to represent Minnesota and both appeared in the game. Box Score

2014 – No Game Today, All-Star break.

2010 –  No game today, All-Star break.

2009 – No Game today. The game was held on July 14, 2009, at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri, the home of the National League St. Louis Cardinals. The game was the first All-Star Game held in St. Louis since 1966. The AL All-Stars beat the NL All-Stars on this day by a 4-3 score. By length of time, this was the shortest MLB All-Star game (2:31) since 1988. At one point during the game, the American League retired 18 straight batters, the second most in All-Star game history. This was the seventh straight win for the American League since the All-Star game had first been used to determine home-field advantage for the World Series. The AL improved to 12-0-1 since its 1996 defeat in Philadelphia — the longest unbeaten streak in All-Star history. It was also the first All-Star game without a home run by either league since the 1999 Midsummer Classic in Fenway Park. Twins participants in All-Star festivities were Joe Mauer (started), Justin Morneau and Joe nathan also played. Box Score

2008No Game Today, All-Star break – Twins first baseman Justin Morneau wins the All-Star Home run Derby by beating Texas Ranger outfielder Josh Hamilton in the finals. Josh Hamilton, who at one point goes deep 13 consecutive times, hits a record-setting 28 home runs in the first round of the Home Run Derby, but falls short in finals losing to Twins first baseman Justin Morneau, 5-3. With 71-year-old former coach Clay Counsil pitching, the Rangers outfielder breaks Bobby Abreu’s mark of 24 set in 2005.

1987 – No game today. The All-Star game was played at the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland, California, the home of the Oakland Athletics of the American League. The National League defeated the American League 2-0 in 13 innings in a game that pitchers dominated like no other All-Star game todate. Never before was an All-Star game scoreless after five innings; however, the 1987 game did not see a run until the 13th inning. The only Twins player on-hand to witness the game was Kirby Puckett and he entered the game as a pinch-hitter. Box Score

1970No game today. The All-Star game was played on the evening of July 14, 1970, at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, home of the Cincinnati Reds of the National League, and resulted in a 5–4 victory for the NL. This was the first MLB All-Star Game ever played at night, coinciding with prime time in the Eastern United States. (The previous year’s All-Star Game was originally scheduled to be played at night, but it was rained out and played the following afternoon.) Every All-Star Game since 1970 has been played at night. Riverfront Stadium had barely been open two weeks when it hosted its first All-Star Game. The most remembered moment of the game was the final run, scored in the bottom of the twelfth by Pete Rose. The ball was relayed to the American League catcher, Ray Fosse, in time to tag Rose out, but the tenacious Rose bowled Fosse over enough to drop the ball, giving Rose credit for the game-winning run. Harmon Killebrew and Rod Carew were elected as starters but Carew was injured and did not participate. Tony Oliva and Jim Perry were reserves and both appeared in the game. Box Score

1967 – The Twins strand 12 runners and lose to the last place Kansas City A’s 3-2 at Met Stadium and fall 2 1/2 games behind the first place White Sox.
