2023 – No Twins game today, it is the MLB’s 93rd All-Star game and was played in Seattle, home of the Mariners and the the Twins have two representatives, both are starting pitchers. Sonny Gray was named to the named to the team and Pablo Lopez was named a couple days later as a replacement for another pitcher and both players pitched in the game. The uniforms for the game featured Nike’s new Vapor Premier template which will be rolled out in every Major League uniform beginning in 2024. The National League defeated the American League by a score of 3-2 last night. It was the NL’s first All-Star Game victory since 2012. The AL carried a 2-1 lead into the eighth inning, but a two-run homer by Elias Díaz off Félix Bautista won the game for the NL. Camilo Doval picked up the win, while veteran reliever Craig Kimbrel earned the save. Box Score

2021 – In the final game of the homestand and final game before the All-Star break the Twins win their fourth game in a row when they walk-off the visiting Detroit Tigers 12-9 in ten innings. The Twins had an 8-5 lead going into the ninth inning but Taylor Rogers gave up a single, double, a walk and then a grand slam home run to Jake Rogers putting the Tigers up by one before striking out the next three batters . Ben Rortvedt saved the Twins bacon with a bases empty shot in the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 9-9. Tyler Duffey (1-2) kept the Tigers scoreless in the top of the tenth. In the bottom of the tenth Treveor Larnach started at second base and Nelson Cruz was given an IW and Alex Kirilloff popped out for the first out of the inning. Jorge Polanco then homered deep to left and the Twins had a walk-off 12-9 win and finished their homestand with a 5-2 record. Jose Berrios started for the Twins and went seven inning but got a ND for his work. The 39-50 Twins head into the AS break in third place and will resume play in Detroit against the Tigers later in the week. Box Score
The Twins also made news off the field in the 2021 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by selecting high school players with their top two selections.
During the three-day 2021 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft the Twins selected 21 total players, including: seven right-handed pitchers, four left-handed pitchers, three catchers, five infielders and two outfielders. Of the 21 total players selected 19 were drafted out of college and two out of high school.
2020 – The Twins would be taking on the visiting Toronto Blue Jays today but all the games this season have been postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19. 97 games missed so far. Twins Summer Camp 2020 is underway at Target Field and CHS Field.

2018 – The Twins and starter Lance Lynn spot the Royals 3 quick runs in the first inning at Target Field on a Salvador Perez 3-run home run but come back with 2 runs of their own in the second, score 3 more in the fourth and 3 more in the sixth for an 8-5 win. Lynn allowed four runs, 3 of which were earned on 5 hits in 5 innings but got the win to even his record at 7-7 for the season. Joe Mauer, Brian Dozier and Bobby Wilson each had three hits. Dozier and Logan Morrison also hit home runs. Home cooking is working for the Twins as this win was the 10th win in their last 14 home games. Box Score
2017 – No Game Today. The 88th edition of the MLB All Star Game was hosted by the Miami Marlins and was played at Marlins Park. The game was the Marlins’ first time hosting, leaving the Tampa Bay Rays as the only MLB franchise not to have hosted an All-Star game. The American League won, 2–1, in 10 innings. Robinson Canó, second baseman for the Seattle Mariners, hit the game-winning home run for the American League and was named the 2017 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player. The Twins sent three players to the All-Star game, Miguel Sano, Brandon Kintzler and Ervin Santana. All three Twins players participated in the game. Box Score

2009 – Pitcher Brad Radke and Minor League farm director George Brophy are inducted in to the Minnesota Twins Hall of Fame prior to the game.
The Twins lose to the Chicago White Sox by a score of 8-7. Former White Sox and current Twins third baseman Joe Crede does his best to beat his old team by hitting two home runs and knocking in four but it is not enough. Glen Perkins started for Minnesota but lasted just 4.1 innings and gave up five runs and took the loss. Box Score

2006 – No game today. This years All-Star game was played PNC Park in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League. The contest was the fifth hosted by the city of Pittsburgh – tying the Cleveland Indians for the record of most times hosted by a single franchise. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League 3–2. As with each All-Star Game since 1970, the 8 starting position players (with no designated hitter due to playing in an NL stadium) of each league were elected by fan balloting. The remaining players were selected by a players’ vote, each league’s team manager, and the All-Star Final Vote to add one more player to each roster. In all, 32 players were selected to each league’s team, not including players who decline to play due to injuries or personal reasons. Johan Santana, Francisco Liriano and Joe mauger were Twins players selected to participate this year. Santana and Mauer played but Liriano did not. Box Score
2005 – No Game Today, All-Star break. – The Seattle Mariners send second baseman Bret Boone and some cash to Minnesota as part of a conditional deal but the Twins release him a couple of weeks later.

2000 – No game today. The game was played at Turner Field in Atlanta, Georgia, home of the Atlanta Braves of the National League. The Florida Marlins were originally awarded the 2000 All-Star Game in July 1995, but due to concerns over the chronically low attendance figures at Pro Player Stadium and the long-term viability of the South Florida market, National League president Len Coleman revoked the game from Miami in December 1998. The Marlins finally got to host the All-Star Game for the first time, 17 years later. Coleman announced Atlanta would be the replacement host of the game, giving the Braves the chance to host their first All-Star Game since 1972. Turner Field, which opened in 1997 played a factor in Coleman’s decision to award the game to Atlanta, citing Major League Baseball’s desire to have the All-Star Game played in newer venues as a way to showcase the ballparks. The result of the game was the American League defeating the National League by a score of 6–3. Once again the Twins had just one player representing the franchise and it was outfielder Matt Lawton who was named an All-Star for the first time. Box Score
1995 – No game today. The All_Star game was held at The Ballpark in Arlington in Arlington, Texas, the home of the Texas Rangers of the American League. In this All-Star Game, American League pitchers held National League batters to just three base hits, but all three were home runs. The game resulted in the National League defeating the American League 3–2. The All-Star break this season was actually only two days – because of the strike induced schedule in 1995, there were games scheduled for the next day. As a result, by the time this game ended, several players had already flown out of Texas to get to where their teams were playing the next day. 1989 – No Twins game today. This All-Star game was played at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California, the home of the California Angels of the American League. The game is noted for being the first in All-Star Game history to include the designated hitter. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League 5-3. The game is remembered for Bo Jackson’s monstrous lead-off home run to center field. Jackson was named the game’s MVP. 1987 – Billy Ripken, 22, joins his brother Cal in the Orioles starting lineup in Baltimore’s 2-1 loss to the Twins in Memorial Stadium. Oriole’s manager Cal Ripken, Sr. is the first to manage 2 sons in the majors. Although out hit 8 to 5, the Twins use a fourth inning home run by Randy Bush and a home run by Gary Gaetti in the sixth to win the game 2-1. Frank Viola went the distance for the win and Mike Griffin had a complete game for the O’s but had to take the “L”. Box Score

1978 – No game today. The 49 MLB All-Star game was played at San Diego Stadium with the NL beating the AL by a score of 7-3. The only Twins participant was starting first baseman Rod Carew and he hit two triples in the game. Box Score.
1976 – In Boston’s 6 – 4 win over the Twins at Fenway Park, Minnesota center fielder Lyman Bostock drops Carl Yastrzemski’s long fly ball to deep center after a bucket of popcorn falls in his eyes. Yaz is credited with a double and gets an RBI on the play. The Twins record drops to 39-44 with the loss. Box Score
1968 – Minnesota rookie shortstop Rick Renick is the 16th AL player and first Minnesota Twin to hit a home run in his first major league at bat as he goes long against Mickey Lolich at Met Stadium. The Twins come to bat in the bottom of the ninth with the score tied at 4-4. Bruce Look lines out to right field for the first out of the inning. Rich Reese walks, Cesar Tovar singles and Rod Carew steps up and singles in Reese and the Twins have a 5-4 walk-off win. Carew’s hit was his third of the game and his RBI was also his third of the game. Ron Perranoski who pitched the last two innings gets the win. Box Score
1967 – No Game Today. The 38th All-Star game was played at Anaheim Stadium in Anaheim, California. The game resulted in a 2–1 15 inning victory for the NL. 1965 – With the Twins AL lead at only 4 games and the All-Star game break coming up the next day, the Twins took on the New York Yankees at the Met and after 8 innings the score was knotted at 4 apiece. The Yanks scored one unearned run in the top of the ninth on a Jerry Fosnow error and the Twins had their backs to the wall. In the bottom of the ninth, Zoilo Versalles grounded out to the pitcher but Rich Rollins coaxed a walk from Pete Mikkelsen and the Twins had the tying run on base with Tony Oliva due up. Oliva flew out to center and the Twins were down to their last out but the last Twins hitter was Harmon Killebrew and he took Mikkelsen to a full count before hitting a walk-off 2 run homer and the Twins fans celebrated the 6-5 win. The Twins players never looked back and ended up winning the league pennant by 7 games over the White Sox. Killebrew’s described his home run as “It’s one of the sweetest of the sweet” and it stands in Twins lore as one of their most famous home runs. Box Score

1961 – The National League not only has a 2-0 lead after five innings but NL pitchers Warren Spahn and Bob Purkey have held the AL All-Stars to no hits. Mike McCormick takes the mound for the NL in the sixth and keeps the no-hitter intact by retiring Brooks Robinson. Then Harmon Killebrew becomes the first Minnesota Twin to appear in an All-Star game when he pinch-hits for pitcher Dick Donovan and he doesn’t disappoint when he hits a home run off Mike McCormick at Candlestick Park. After 8 innings the NL has a 3-1 lead and NL pitchers have given up just the one hit, Killebrew’s home run. With ace reliever Roy Face on the mound in the ninth for the NL the game was all but over. Face struck out Jim Gentile and the AL was down to two outs. But then Norm Cash doubles, Al Kaline singles pinch-runner Nellie Fox home and the AL suddenly had the tying run on base. Face was done and Sandy Koufax is brought in to face Roger Maris who singles and Koufax is done too. Stu Miller is brought in to pitch and he commits a balk pitching to Rocky Colavito moving the runners to second and third. Colavito then reaches first on a Ken Boyer error and Kaline scores the tying run. The NL commits two more errors in the inning but somehow avoid anymore runs from scoring. The AL then takes a 4-3 lead in the top of the tenth on another Ken Boyer error but the NL comes back with two runs in the bottom of the tenth against Hoyt Wilhelm and when all the smoke clears the National League wins the game in 10 innings by a score of 5 to 4 on a Roberto Clemente walk-off single that scores Willie Mays. There were seven errors committed in this game in windy Candlestick Park, five by the winning National League All-Stars. Stu Miller blew the save but got the win and Wilhelm took the loss.
