2023No Twins game today, it is the All-Star break.

2022 – SOGGY NIGHT SPOILED BY BREW CREW: The Twins lost to the Brewers at Target Field by a score 6-3, as the game experienced three separate rain delays on a stormy evening. Josh Winder (4-3) was the starter and loser, allowing five runs on four hits in 5 innings pitched. Emilio Pagán pitched one inning of relief, striking out all three batters faced. The offense recorded six hits, two from Jorge Polanco, who hit his 13th home run of the season. The attendance of 37,183 marked a season-high and most since September 21, 2019, when they drew 37,750. 2021 – No game today, All-Star break.

Twins closer Taylor Rogers was named to the American League All-Star team ass a replacement for an injured pitcher. It is Roger’s first All-Star selection and it is in his home town of Denver. How cool.

2020 – The Twins would be taking on the visiting Toronto Blue Jays today but all the games this season have been postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19. 98 games missed so far. Twins Summer Camp 2020 is underway at Target Field and CHS Field.

2019 – The MN Twins have gone 9-11 in their final 20 games, today they will begin the “second half” with a three-game weekend series in Cleveland. Twins and Indians fans were anxiously waiting for the two teams to meet since the Twins had an 11 game lead over the Indians as late as June 15 and now at the All-Star break the hot Indians were just 5.5 games behind the suddenly cooled off and injured Twins. The visiting Twins would play the Indians at Progressive Field where the All-Star games was just played a few days earlier and the Twins started Kyle Gibson (who lasted just 3.2 innings) against Mike Clevinger. The Twins scored in the first inning on a Nelson Cruz home run (17) but the Indians were up 3-1 after six innings before the Twins rallied for 3 runs in the top of the seventh off the Indians bullpen to take a 4-3 lead and then Mitch Garver provided an insurance run with his 14th home run in the top of the 8th inning. Taylor Rogers got the two inning save, his 13th. The Twins had 8 hits but no one got more than one. Box Score

Kyle Gibson was the starter and winner, allowing one run on five hits in 8.0 innings pitched with no walks and nine strikeouts. Eddie Rosario who was snubbed for the All-Star game hit the Twins only home run, his 19th of the season and was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and a run scored. The Twins roughed up Rays 12 game winner Blake Snell and pinned him with his fifth loss of the season. Box Score

2017No Game Today, All-Star break.

2016No Game Today – MLB announced today that baseball’s annual batting championships have been named in honor of Hall of Famers Tony Gwynn and Rod Carew, Major League Baseball announced during pregame festivities for the 87th All-Star Game, played at Petco Park in San Diego. The players who earn the highest batting averages in each League will now be known as the “Tony Gwynn National League Batting Champion” and the “Rod Carew American League Batting Champion,” paying homage to two of the most accomplished hitters of the modern era. Carew participated in tonight’s ceremonies in San Diego, while the late Gwynn was represented by his family.

The 2016 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 87th edition of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game. The game was hosted by the San Diego Padres and was played at Petco Park. Because National League parks had been selected to host four straight games from 2015–2018, skipping an American League park in 2016 and 2018 in the traditional alternating system, the AL team was designated as the home team. The American League All-Stars defeated the National League All-Stars by a score of 4–2 to win home field advantage for the 2016 World Series (which went to  the Cleveland Indians). This was also the last time home-field advantage for the World Series was determined by the outcome of the All-Star Game. Eduardo Nunez was the Twins lone selection and he appeared in the game but did not get an AB. Box Score

2012 – No Game Today, All-Star break.

2011 No Game Today – The All_Star game was played at Chase Field in Phoenix, Arizona, home of the National League Arizona Diamondbacks. The game ended in a 5–1 win for the National League, their second straight All-Star victory. It was the first MLB All-Star Game to be held in Arizona and the first in a National League Park to have a designated hitter. With a combination of injuries and rule enforcements, a record 84 players were named to the All-Star rosters. This broke the record of 82 players that were on rosters for the 2010 game. This marked the first time in which the All-Star Game was entirely played indoors since 1986, when it was played at the Astrodome in Houston. The Twins sole All-Star this season was first-timer Michael Cuddyer and he did play as a reserve. Box Score

The Metrodome roof is back, newer and brighter than ever and once again providing an arch over the Minneapolis skyline. Metrodome officials and workers from the roof manufacture Birdair inflated the new roof in about 45 minutes Wednesday morning. The roof collapsed December 12, 2010 under the weight of a 17-inch snowstorm, forcing the Vikings’ final two games of the 2010 season to be played at Ford Field in Detroit and TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota Campus. The bad news is that now the turf must be replaced due to mold issues.

2010 –  No game today, All-Star break.

2006 – No game today, All-Star break.

2005 No game today. The 2005 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 76th playing of the midseason exhibition baseball game between the all-stars of the American League (AL) and National League (NL). The game was played at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan, the home of the Detroit Tigers of the American League. The game resulted in the American League defeating the National League 7–5. 2000 – No game today, All-Star break.

1999 – No game today, All-Star break.

1996 – In a sad day in Minnesota Twins history, Kirby Puckett, wearing a white patch over his right eye, announced his retirement from baseball. He was 36 years old. “I was told I would never make it because I’m too short,” the 5’8″ Puckett said at his retirement press conference. “Well, I’m still too short, but I’ve got 10 All-Star games, two World Series championships, and I’m a very happy and contented guy. It doesn’t matter what your height is, it’s what’s in your heart.” Kirby passed away from a stroke on March 6, 2006.

On the field the Twins lost a tough one when the Indians scored four runs in the top of the ninth and came from behind to beat the Twins 7-5 at the Metrodome. Twins starter Rich Robertson pitched seven inning and turned over a 4-2 lead to the bullpen but in hindsight that was a bad move. Box Score

1994 – No game today. The 65th MLB All-Star game was played at Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the home of the Pittsburgh Pirates of the National League. The game resulted in the National League walking-off the American League 8–7 in 10 innings. It was the National League’s first win since 1987. The Twins were represented by Kirby Puckett (started) and Chuck Knoblauch (reserve but played). Box Score

1990 – Todays game against the Orioles in Baltimore has been rained out and will be played as part of a double-header tomorrow.

1989 – No game today. All-Star break.

1988 – No Twins game today. The All-Star Game was held on July 12, 1988, at Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, the home of the NL’s Cincinnati Reds. When the final score was posted the AL had defeated the NL 2-1. Terry Steinbach, a catcher for the AL’s Oakland Athletics, won the All-Star game’s most valuable player award. Steinbach was credited with both of the AL’s two runs in the game. AL starter Frank Viola of the Minnesota Twins was the winning pitcher. Each team used 8 pitchers in the game. The Twins were well represented with five players, Viola who started against NL starter Dwight Gooden, Kirby Puckett, Gary Gaetti, Tim Laudner, and Jeff Reardon. Reardon was the only Twins not to participate in the game. Box Score

1984 – It was an unusual afternoon game coming on the first day back from the All-Star break. Twins manager Billy Gardner and pitching coach Johnny Podres missed the first inning of the game against the Tigers at the Metrodome because their early morning flight was delayed by fog at the Newark airport. When they arrived in the second inning, Frank Viola was already off to a great start. Viola left after 8 innings with a 4-1 lead and Ron Davis allowed a run but saved the 4-2 win. Houston Jimenez and Gary Gaetti each were 2 for 3 with a double, a run scored and a RBI.  Box Score

1979 – No game today, scheduled day off.

1978No game today. All-Star break.

1976 No game today, All-Star break.

1975 – A strange game between the 45-41 New York Yankees and the 39-48 Minnesota Twins at Shea Stadium (Yankee Stadium being renovated in 1974-1975) and the winner of the game was undetermined for a week. The starters were Jim Hughes for Minnesota and Catfish Hunter for New York. Hughes gave up two quick runs to the Yankees in the bottom of the first on three hits and a walk but the Twins got one back in the top of the second on a Steve Braun home run. With the score at 2-1 for the Yankees the rain came and a 29 minute rain delay took place before the Yankees batted in the sixth inning and scored their third run and had a 3-1 lead until DH Tony Oliva hit his 10th home run of the season in  the top of the eighth inning. The Yankees were only up one run when the Danny Thompson greeted Catfish with a double to lead off the ninth and that was it for Hunter. Dick Tidrow came in to face Danny Ford who singled and the Twins had runners at first and second and Tidrow was gone and Sparky Lyle came in to face Rod Carew who singled to score Lyman Bostock who came in to run for Thompson and Ford was at second base. First baseman John Briggs had a bunt single with still no one out and the bases were loaded full of Twins. The Yankees had seen enough of Lyle and brought in Doc Medich to face Larry Hisle who proceeded to single into two more runs and the Twins had two on and still no one out but Medich got Braun to ground out and Jerry Terrell to hit into an inning ending double-play. Going into the bottom of the ninth the Twins seemed to have a 6-3 victory in hand. But the Yanks Jim Mason had other ideas and singled off Jim Hughes in the ninth and Hughes too was history and Tom Johnson was brought in to put out the fire. When the smoke cleared the Yankees scored three times and the game was headed for extra innings. The tenth through the 14th innings were scoreless and the game was suspended due to the 1 A.M. curfew that MLB had in place at that time and would be completed the next day. Box Score

1972 – The Twins win their 1,000th game as Bert Blyleven shuts down the Milwaukee Brewers 7-1 at Met Stadium. A six run fifth inning is really all the Twins need on this day. The big inning came at the expense of Brewers starting pitcher Ken Brett who gave up six hits in the inning but three of them were home runs by Rick Renick, Bobby Darwin and Eric Soderholm. Darwin was 2 for 3 with the home run and IW and had three RBI. Heck, even Bert Blyleven got a single in this game. Bert would also win the Twins 2,000th game a number of years later. Box Score

1967 – No game today. All-Star break.

1966 No Game Today. The 1966 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 37th midseason classic between the NL and the AL. The game was played at then-new Busch Memorial Stadium in St. Louis, Missouri. The teams managed just six hits apiece in a 10-inning game. A triple by Brooks Robinson in the second inning off Sandy Koufax was followed by a wild pitch, giving the American Leaguers a 1–0 lead. It turned out to be their only run. The NL tied the score in the fourth against Jim Kaat on singles by Willie Mays, Roberto Clemente and Ron Santo. There would be no more runs until the 10th. Winning pitcher Gaylord Perry got out of a two-on, one-out jam by retiring Bobby Richardson on a pop foul and Bill Freehan with a strikeout. Pete Richert, pitching the bottom of the 10th, surrendered a base hit to Tim McCarver, a sacrifice bunt by Ron Hunt and a walk-off single to center by Maury Wills. Tony Oliva was the only Twins starter in the game but Jim Kaat, Earl Battey and Tony were reserves and played in the game. Video of ASG highlights. Box Score

The 10-inning contest – which was played on a memorably hot and humid afternoon in St. Louis, with a game-time temperature of 103 °F (39 °C) – resulted in a 2–1 victory for the NL
