2001 – In their first year of eligibility, Dave Winfield and Kirby Puckett are elected to the MLB Hall of Fame. The former Twins are the fourth pair of teammates selected by BBWAA in the same year.

1986 – The Twins trade 2B Tim Teufel and outfielder Pat Crosby to the New York Mets for outfielder Billy Beane and pitchers Bill Latham and Joe Klink.

They also trade catcher Dave Engle to the Tigers for infielder Chris Pittaro and outfielder Alejandro Sanchez .

1975 – The Minnesota Twins release icon and future Hall of Famer Harmon Killebrew who had played for the Washington Senators and Twins since 1954 after refusing an offer by owner Calvin Griffith to be a Twins coach and pinch hitter. Killebrew however; wanted to play one more season as a DH and signs with the Kansas City Royals and plays one final season before hanging up his spikes for good.
