2021 – TwinsFest, the Twins’ annual fan convention has been postponed, the team announced Wednesday. The decision is long expected and comes, the team says, because of “COVID-19 related health and safety considerations, along with the current Major League Baseball work stoppage.” The Twins held a Virtual TwinsFest, a one-day event this past January, but if the lockout is ongoing, the Twins would not be able to host a fan convention — virtual or in-person — with current players in attendance. Likewise, the Twins are bringing back the Winter Caravan from Jan. 30-Feb. 4 after postponing it last winter, but current players will not be attending if the lockout is ongoing as expected. Coaches, former players, broadcasters and team executives would still be able to participate.

2016 – The Twins had the No. 1 overall pick in this morning’s Rule 5 Draft but maneuvered a three-team trade with the Padres and Angels to acquire right-hander Justin Haley. The Twins selected right-hander Miguel Diaz but sent him to San Diego for a player to be named later or cash considerations; the Padres are expected to receive cash. Los Angeles then sent Haley, who was taken eighth from the Red Sox organization, to the Padres, who traded him to the Twins for cash. The Twins returned RHP Rule 5 selection Justin Haley to the Boston Red Sox on July 24, 2017.

1980 – The Twins sent outfielder Dave Edwards to the Padres and received shortstop Chuck Baker.

1978 – The Twins acquire pitcher Jerry Koosman from the New York Mets and send pitchers Greg Field and Jesse Orosco on their way. Orosco was still pitching in the majors 24 years later and actually finished his career wearing a Twins uniform in 2003.
