2010 – Hall of Famer and Twins legend Harmon Killebrew has been diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Killebrew, 74, revealed the news in a statement this morning. He said that he was recently diagnosed and is being treated by a team of medical professionals at the Mayo Clinic.

The Twins announced today that TwinsFest 2011 will now take place at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minn., on Jan. 28-30. It’s the first time since the late 1990s that the event has taken place at a venue other than the Metrodome. The collapse of the Metrodome’s Teflon roof following a heavy snowstorm earlier this month forced the Minnesota Vikings to seek a change in venue for their final two home games. And now, ongoing repair issues with the roof have caused an annual Twins event to be moved from the Dome as well. Repairs to the roof are expected to take at least through March 2011.

1982 – The Metrodome roof deflates for the second time in just over a year due to a tear caused by heavy snow. The Vikings beat the Cowboys 31-27 at the Dome on Monday night January 3, 1983.
