December 13 – This Day in Twins History

(click on images once or twice to make them larger)

1999 – The Florida Marlins obtain Johan Santana from the Astros in the Rule 5 draft, and later in the day Florida trades the 20-year old southpaw to the Twins (along with some cash) for Jared Camp. The Venezuelan native will post a 93-44 record and will win the Cy Young Award twice (2004, 2006) during his 8-year tenure in Minnesota.

1994 – The Met Center was imploded on this day – or not. Not an actual Twins event but kind of tied to Twins history because of its proximity to Met Stadium.

The Met Center was an indoor arena that stood in Bloomington, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. The arena, which was completed in 1967 just to the north of Metropolitan Stadium, seated 15,000. It was best known as the home of the Minnesota North Stars of the NHL from 1967-1993.
