2023 – The Twins are back home after an unpleasant two-game trip to Milwaukee. The Twins beat the visiting Texas Rangers at Target Field by a score of 7-5, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eight for their 30th comeback win this season. Nine victories when trailing after seven innings. Pablo López was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing five runs on 10 hits in 5 innings pitched, including three home runs. Minnesota’s bats were in full-swing with five home runs of their own, including one from Royce Lewis (6), Kyle Farmer (8), Ryan Jeffers (10) and two from Michael A. Taylor (18, 19). Taylor recorded the fourth multi-homer game of his career (2nd this season) and Jeffers recorded his second career pinch-hit homer (4th for a Twin this season). 2020 – Coming off a near no-hitter in his last start, Twins starter Kenta Maeda battled through five innings (83 pitches) striking out seven and allowing one run on five hits and left the game with the score tied at 1-1. But in the top of the sixth Miguel Sano hit his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot that put the Twins up 3-1 and the Twins held on for a 3-2 win making Maeda (4-0) a winner. Rogers notched another Save. Nelson Cruz also hit a home run, his eleventh this year. The first place Twins were out-hit 12-8 but they outscored the Indians for their 20th win of the season against 10 losses marking the half way point in the 60 game season. The Twins 20-10 record through the first 30 games is the club’s best record in that span since 2001 (22-8) and tied with the 1930 and 1925 Senators for the fourth-best 30-game starts in franchise history. Miguel Sanó has a career-best streak of eight-consecutive games with at least one extra-base hit, the longest in baseball this season. The Twins record is 11 games set by Brian Dozier in 2016. 2018 – For seven innings it is a pitchers duel at Target Field with the A’s Sean Manaea having a 2-1 lead over the Twins starter Jake Odorizzi who finally recorded an out in the seventh inning for the first time in 27 starts this season. The Twins bullpen however; allowed three runs in the eighth and 2 more in the ninth and the A’s had their 77th win of the season in the bag. Eddie Rosario and Robbie Grossman had two hits each. The only other hit by the Twins was a single by DH Joe Mauer but it was a big one, his 2,086 hit as a Minnesota Twins moving him past Rod Carew into second place behind Kirby Puckett on the Twins all-time hit list. It is also worth noting that during Harmon Killebrew’s 22-year career with Washington/Minnesota and Kansas City, he amassed exactly 2,086 hits. The second ever Player’s Weekend is taking place, the joint effort between MLB and the MLB Players Association includes new uniforms and nicknames on the back of new uniforms, a “Thank You” patch for players to recognize someone who was important in their development, and customized gear.  Box Score

1961 – Twins starter Jim Kaat matched Camilo Pascual’s 4-0 shutout yesterday with one of his own as the Twins whitewashed the Chicago White Sox 3-0 on just five hits with only one runner getting as far as third base. The shutout for Kaat was his first in the big leagues and it was his first win over the pale hose. Kaat wasn’t just tough on the mound either, he led off the third inning with a triple and scored on a Billy Martin double giving the Twins a 1-0 lead which was all they would need on this day. Harmon Killebrew doubled home two more runs in the fifth inning giving Kaat and the Twins some insurance in the 3-0 victory. With his 1-3 effort at the plate Kaat is hitting .280 with 14 hits in 50 AB’s. The win for Kaat was his seventh against 12 losses. Sox starter Ray Herbert (8-12) took the loss. The Twins had just seven hits with four going for extra bases (3 doubles and a triple). The Twins win gave them a 4-2 six-game road trip and moved their record to 55-70, good for seventh place. Now they head for home and a 14-game homestand. Box Score
