2023 – The Twins had and Sonny Gray had a 2-0 lead after five at Target Field but could not hold it and lost to the Pirates by a score of 7-4. Gray (6-6) was the starter and loser, allowing four runs on four hits in 6.2 innings pitched, with three walks and seven strikeouts. The staff walked nine Pirates on the night (2 scored), setting a season high and their most since walking 10 on September 7, 2022 at
New York-AL. The offense recorded 11 hits, highlighted by Jorge Polanco, who went 2-for-3 with a stolen base (50th career), two RBI and one walk. Christian Vázquez doubled twice, marking his third game this season with multiple doubles. This is the 12th time this season the Twins have struck out 15 or more times this season. Carlos Correa grounded in to an MLB leading 24th double-play.  Box Score

2022 – The Twins beat the Texas Rangers at Target Field by a score of 2-1. Dylan Bundy (7-5) was the
starter and winner, allowing one run on two hits in 5.1 innings pitched, with one walk and two strikeouts. The bullpen combined to pitch 3.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts, highlighted by Jorge López, who earned his 22nd save. The Twins staff snapped their scoreless inning streak at 31 consecutive, falling one inning short of the club record of 32, set in July of 2004. Both runs from the Twins offense were scored on back-to-back solo home runs from Luis Arraez and Jose Miranda in the first inning. Former Twin Martin Perez (9-4) took the loss. Box Score

2021 – Some things just never seem to change. The Twins lost to the Yankees at Yankee Stadium by a score of 7-5. The Twins trailed 6-0 until they put up a 3-spot in the sixth inning. In regular season games, the Twins are 5-15 in their last 20 games versus the Yankees. John Gant (4-7) was the starter and loser, allowing four runs on three hits in 3.1 innings pitched with one walk and four strikeouts. The offense recorded eight hits, three from Jorge Polanco and two from Andrelton Simmons. Miguel Sanó hit his 21st home run and Jake Cave hit his second. Pitcher Andrew Albers made his return to the Twins, allowing one run on two hits in 4.0 innings of relief. Albers became the first player in Twins history to have three different stints with the club (also 2013 and 2016). Box Score

2020 – The Twins reinstated left-handed pitcher Rich Hill from the 10-day Injured List. Hill missed the last 19 games with left shoulder fatigue and the Twins sent him out to face the Milwaukee Brewers at Target Field today in his second start of the season but he didn’t have much lasting just 2.2 innings and allowing 4 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks and taking the loss. The Brew Crew had two-four run innings and won the game 9-3 but only outhit the Twins 11-10. Lewis Thorpe kind of took one for the team going 4 ineffective innings and giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and 3 walks. Things went so bad that Rocco Baldelli had to bring in Ehire Adrianza to pitch the ninth inning. Marwin Gonzalez had two hits including his third home run of the season. Box Score

2019 – After completing their six-game road-trip with a record of 5-1 (1-1 in Milwaukee and 4-0 in Texas), the Twins began their six-game homestand with a 6-4 loss to the White Sox at Target Field. The Twins out-hit the Whitey’s 15-8 but found a way to lose the game even though they scored twice in the first inning off Ivan Nova. A White Sox four run fourth inning highlighted by Jose Abreau’s three run home run off starter and loser Kyle Gibson (11-6) gave the WSox a lead they never relinquished. Luis Arraez and Eddie Rosario had three hits each and Jorge Polanco (18) hit a home run. Target Field has not been kind to the Twins since the All-Star break. The Twins have lost six of their last seven at Target Field and are 8-12 at home since the All-Star break, a .400 winning percentage that is tied for the fifth-lowest in baseball. The Twins are 1-4-1 in their first six home series in the second half.  The 76-49 Twins lead over Cleveland dropped to two games. Box Score

When the Twins returned from a six-game road trip today, they were greeted by a new feature behind the seats in the right-field home run porch. The “Bomba Counter,” a big, red scoreboard of sorts, is now keeping track of Minnesota’s assault on the major league record book.

2018 – The second place Twins beat the third place Tigers on a Eddie Rosario home run and take three of four in the long week-end series at Target Field. Nine different Twins players hit a total of 13 home runs against the Tigers this week-end. The Twins power streak of consecutive 3 home runs in a game reaches four and ties a Twins record going back to September 3-6, 2016. In addition to the Rosario home run, Max Kepler and Jake Cave also hit home runs. Cave’s blast was measured at 45o feet before it landed in the Catch club above the batter’s eye in center field. Cave is the fourth player to reach the Catch, joining Jim Thome who hit a ball there in 2010 before the Catch existed, Byung Ho Park in 2016 and Miguel Sano in 2017. Jake Odorizzi started and went five innings allowing 4 runs and got a ND. Odorizzi’s start was his 26th this season and his 26th consecutive start without recording an out in the seventh inning, the longest single-season streak in MLB history, not exactly what the Twins acquired him to do. 2013 – Catcher Joe Mauer goes 2 for 4 but the Twins lose 6-1 to the New York Mets in a meaning less make-up game at Target Field. Turns out that this is probably the last time that Mauer will ever catch for the Twins. The next day Mauer has concussion symptoms and misses the rest of the season. Mauer caught the entire game but took a foul tip off his mask during the game. On November 11, 2013 the Twins and Mauer announce that Mauer is giving up catching and moving to play first base where he has played a total of 56 games over the last three seasons. Kyle Gibson was the Twins starter and loser. Box Score

2007 – The Twins beat the Texas Rangers 1-0 at the Metrodome and in the process Johan Santana sets a new team game strikeout record when he whiffs 17 Rangers in 8 innings. Michael Cuddyer provides the game’s lone run with his 12th homer of the season. Michael Young, the Rangers All-Star shortstop, leads the K crowd by striking out all four times against Santana. 1967 – Dave Boswell shuts out the Yankees 1-0 in Yankee Stadium 1 on three hits (all singles), 3 walks and a hit batter while whiffing 5 Yankees. The only Twins run scored in the 7th inning on a Bob Allison bunt single down the third base line. Rich Reese grounded to the pitcher who got Allison at second base on the force with Reese reaching first. Russ Nixon’s single moved Reese to third base. Ted Uhlaender hit a ground ball to the second baseman who tried to go for the double play by tagging Nixon and then throwing to first but Nixon stopped to avoid being tagged and the second baseman threw to first to try to get Uhlaender but the throw was too late and then the first baseman threw to second to force Nixon but Reese scored on the play. Boswell then struck out for out number three. Yankee starter Bill Monbouquette was the tough luck loser. Box Score

1961 – The Twins unleashed a 15 hit attack against the LA Angels and hit four home runs in the home run friendly Wrigley Field and coasted to a 5-3 win behind the stellar pitching of young Jim Kaat. Kaat ran out of gas after retiring the first batter in the ninth when he gave up a double to Steve Bilko, a home run to Earl Averill and a single to George Thomas. Twins skipper Sam Mele had seen enough and brought in Ray Moore who gave up two more singles and another run to make it 5-3 before striking out Joe Koppe for the game ending out. Lenny Green (6) and Zoilo Versalles (6) each had three hits including home runs. Harmon Killebrew (37) and Bill Tuttle (4) also hit home runs. Kaat got his second consecutive win for the first time this season going 8.1 innings allowing 3 runs on 6 hits, 4 walks while striking out 5. Kaat also contributed with the bat getting two hits. Attendance was a paltry 2,857. Box Score
