2022 – The Twins shut out the Royals at Target Field by a score of 4-0, their 12th shutout of the season and their sixth sweep in 2022. Tyler Mahle was the starter but did not factor into the decision, exiting the game in the third inning after experiencing right shoulder fatigue causing a near-panic amongst Twins fans everywhere.  Emilio Pagán (2.0), Griffin Jax (1.2), Jhoan Duran (1.0), Michael Fulmer (1.0) and Trevor Megill (1.0) combined to pitch 6.2 scoreless innings of relief with one walk and seven strikeouts. Pagan (4-6) was credited with the win. The offense recorded seven hits, two from rookie Jose Miranda, who drove in two and hit his 12th home run of the season. Bring on the Texas Rangers. Box Score

2021 – The Twins lost to the Indians at Target Field by a score of 3-1 in spite of the fact that Bailey Ober (1-2) was the starter and loser, allowing three runs (2 earned) on
five hits in a career-high six innings pitched. It was Ober’s first career quality start. The bats were asleep tonight as the Twins recorded just four hits, two from  Jorge Polanco, who drove in the Twins’ only run with an eighth-inning fielder’s choice ground- out. Polanco had a 16 pitch AB off Indians starter Eli Morgan in the first inning before going down swinging. The offense went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left seven on the base paths. 2019 – The Twins and Rangers go at it again and for the second day in a row the temperature at game time is 97 degrees. The bats for both teams are hot to start as the Twins score 6 in the first and 2 in the second while Texas scores twice in the first and adds four more in the second making the score 8-6 Twins after two frames are played. The Twins end up winning their third straight over the Rangers, collecting double-digit runs for the second time this series in a 12-7 victory. José Berríos started but was knocked out in the fifth, allowing seven runs (three earned) in 4.1 innings. Berrios has now given up 18 runs in his three starts in August. The bullpen held Texas scoreless for the second straight night, with Tyler Duffey (0.2 IP) earning his second consecutive win. The offense pounded out 18 hits, including three each from Miguel Sanó, Jorge Polanco, Marwin Gonzalez and Jake Cave (matching a career high). C.J. Cron (20) and Sanó (23) both homered. The Twins now have a MLB-high six players with 20-plus homers, matching the 1964 club for most in Minnesota history. Tempers flared a bit when the hot Marwin Gonzalez, 10 for 14 in the series slammed his bat to the ground after grounding out to end the eighth inning. Ranger pitcher Shawn Kelley yelled at him and when Gonzalez turned towards the pitcher both benches emptied but order was quickly restored before things got worse. Box Score

2018 – The Twins don’t get their first hit off Tigers starter Matthew Boyd until the bottom of the fifth inning and when the Tigers add-on another run in the top of the sixth, the Twins find themselves down 3-0. The Twins however; score one in the sixth and four more in the seventh and hold on for a 5-4 win in spite of being out hit 10 to 5. The key blow was a pinch-hit three-run home run off the bat of Joe Mauer. Mauer worked the count full, before ripping a fastball for a three-run homer to give the Twins a 5-3 lead they wouldn’t relinquish in a 5-4 win on Friday night at Target Field. It was Mauer’s second career pinch-hit homer, and he came out to a curtain call from Twins fans after the go-ahead blast. It was the third homer of the night for the Twins — Eddie Rosario hit a solo shot off lefty Matthew Boyd in the sixth and Tyler Austin crushed a solo blast off Boyd in the seventh. Rosario hit his team-leading 21st of the year, while Austin’s was the longest of the year by a Twins player, projected at 451 feet. The homers backed right-hander Kyle Gibson, who allowed three runs on eight hits and three walks over seven innings to get the win. Gibson was helped by four double plays. Lefty Taylor Rogers came in for the final out and recorded his first career save. Box Score

2017 – The Twins split a DH with Cleveland at Target Field losing the first game 9-3 and winning the nightcap 4-2. The first game was a make-up for a rain-out the night before and the Twins set a franchise record by striking out 19 times in this nine inning game against six Indians pitchers. Every Twin in the batting order struck out at least once and Jason Castro and Miguel Sano each struck out three times. Kyle Gibson was the starter and loser and Byron Buxton hits the Twins lone home run. Box Score

In the nightcap Twins rookie Aaron Slegers started the game in his major league debut and pitched 6.1 innings allowing 2 runs on 2 hits but got a ND for his efforts. The 6’10” Slegers pitched very well throwing only 61 pitches and we will see him again soon. Max Kepler pinch-hit a home run in the seventh inning to put the Twins up 3 to 2 and Eduardo Escobar who had 3 hits in the game doubled in an insurance run in the eighth inning. Joe Mauer also had 3 hits in the game. The second game win was the first win for the Twins at Target Field against the Indians this year after 9 losses. Box Score

Today’s Fort Myers Miracle game against the Bradenton Marauders took an unexpected turn with a bench-clearing brawl that resulted in both managers being ejected. According to Miracle Broadcaster Brice Zimmerman, Doug Mientkiewicz, the first-year Miracle manager, got into an altercation with Bradenton manager Frank Kremblas after Jason Wheeler of the Miracle plunked Dan Gamache. The ran out of the dugout and met behind home plate where they locked arms and rolled around on the ground followed by the players who joined in. In the wake of a wild on-field brawl on Saturday night, the Twins will leave any discipline for Class A Fort Myers manager Doug Mientkiewicz up to the Florida State League, Twins general manager Terry Ryan said Sunday.

2010 – Let me set the stage, the Twins are up by 3 games in the AL Central standings over the Chicago White Sox and the mighty whitey’s come to Target Field for 3 crucial games starting today. The Twins take a 4-0 lead after one inning but the whitey’s come back with three of their own in the second. After four innings the score is tied 4-4. The White Sox scrape together three singles in the top of the 10th to take the lead 6-5. Then in the bottom of the 10th inning Delmon Young singles and Jim Thome hits the first walk-off home run at Target Field deep to right off lefty reliever Matt Thornton and the Twins take a four game lead in the AL Central. With that walk-off home run Jim Thome ties the major league record for career walk-off home runs with his 12th, Thome catches Jimmie Foxx, Mickey Mantle, Stan Musial, Frank Robinson and Babe Ruth. 1999 – Baltimore Orioles Jesse Orosco set a major league record by pitching in his 1,072nd game, breaking a tie with Dennis Eckersley atop the career list. The 42-year-old Orosco took the mound with two outs in the seventh inning of Baltimore’s 8-3 victory over Minnesota at Camden Yards. Orosco was originally drafted by Minnesota in 1978 but did not pitch for them until 2003 which was his 24th and final big league season. Orosco played for 9 different major league organizations, some more than once. Joe Mays was the Twins starter and loser lasting just 5.1 innings and giving up 4 runs.
