2024 – After getting rained out yesterday the Twins lost to the Tigers at Comerica Park by a score of 8-2. Pablo López (1-2) was the starter and loser, allowing five runs on six hits in 4 innings pitched, with three walks and seven strikeouts. Michael Tonkin made his return to the Twins, pitching 2 innings of relief with five strikeouts. Twins pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts, setting a season high. The offense recorded six hits, walked four times and struck out 11 times. Willi Castro made his first pitching appearance of the season (fourth as a Twins pitcher) when he came in to get the final out in the eighth inning. Carlos Correa went 0-for-2 and exited the game in the third inning with a right oblique strain. Kyle Farmer reached safely three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks, one run scored and one RBI. 2023 – The Twins Sonny Gray faces off against the White Sox Lucas Giolito at Target Field and the Twins prevail by a 3-1 score with the White Sox scoring their lone run on a ninth inning home run by Lenyn Sosa of Jhoan Duran. This this the second day in a row that the Twins closer has given up a home run in the ninth inning to a Chicago batter but this time it really has no impact on the game. It was a tough game for Minnesota when Kyle Farmer was hit in the face with a 92 MPH pitch by Giolito and dropped to the ground but was able to walk off the field. It was later determined he did not suffer a broken jaw but did have a serious lip laceration and had to have surgery on his lower teeth which were pushed back in his mouth. Later Byron Buxton had to leave the game after getting into a collision on the base path with White Sox second baseman Lenyn Sosa but Buxton was able to play the next day. Sonny Gray (2-0) was the starter and winner, pitching 5 shutout innings, with three hits allowed, two walks and five strikeouts. Jorge Alcala (1.0 IP), Jorge López (1.0 IP) and Griffin Jax (1.0 IP) each earned a hold, while Jhoan Duran earned his third save in four chances. The offense recorded 10 hits, highlighted by Michael A. Taylor, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Willi Castro came off the bench and went 2-for-2 with a double, an RBI and run scored. Second baseman Edouard Julien made his major league debut in the game going 0 for 2 with a walk. The Twins completed their six-game home-stand with a record of 4-2, going 2-1 versus both Houston and Chicago-AL. They fly out to New York to play the Yankees in a four-game series. Box Score

2022 – The Twins lost to the Dodgers at Target Field by a score of 7-2, which included a one hour and 28-minute rain delay in the eighth inning. Chris Archer made his Twins debut, pitching 4 shutout innings with two hits allowed, no walks and three strikeouts. The Twins used seven relievers, including Josh Winder, who made his major league debut with 1 inning of relief, allowing one run on two walks with one strikeout. The offense recorded five hits, two from both Carlos Correa (both doubles) and Max Kepler. The Twins went 1-for-14 with runners in scoring position and left eight men on base. The game was a lost closer than the final score indicates as the Dodgers scored six of their runs in the top of the eighth inning. Box Score

2021Today’s game against the Boston Red Sox at Target Field is postponed and will be made up as game two of an April 14  doubleheader. A Brooklyn Center police officer fatally shot 20-year-old Daunte Wright during a traffic stop yesterday afternoon, inflaming already raw tensions between police and community members in the midst of the Derek Chauvin trial. The unidentified officer is on administrative leave after what the chief called an “accidental discharge.” The police officer who fatally shot a man during a traffic stop in Brooklyn Center yesterday appeared to do so accidentally, intending to fire her Taser, not her gun, Police Chief Tim Gannon said Monday. Gannon made the assertion as the department released a body camera video that appeared to show the officer shouting, “Taser! Taser!” before she fired her gun, hitting Daunte Wright, 20. “It is my belief that the officer had their intention to deploy the Taser but instead shot Mr. Wright with a single bullet,” the chief said during a packed news conference. “This appears to me, from what I viewed, and the officer’s reaction and distress immediately after, that this was an accidental discharge that resulted in a tragic death of Mr. Wright.”

The Minnesota Twins issued the following statement regarding the decision to postpone today’s scheduled game against the Boston Red Sox.

“Out of respect for the tragic events that occurred yesterday in Brooklyn Center, and following the additional details in this evolving situation, the Minnesota Twins have decided it is in the best interests of our fans, staff, players and community to not play today’s game. The decision was made by the Minnesota Twins after consultation with Major League Baseball, and local and state officials. Information regarding the rescheduling of today’s game, and corresponding ticket details, will be released in the near future.

The Minnesota Twins organization extends its sympathies to the family of Daunte Wright.”

Twins President Dave St. Peter had the following comments regarding the postponement as copied from Twitter sent by Minnesota Twins MLB writer Dan Hayes

2020 – The Twins would have been in Chicago today playing those Mighty Whitey’s again today but instead the season thus far has been postponed due to COVID-19. That makes 16 games missed so far.

2019 – No Game Today, too much snow and cold. Game will be played as part of a split double-header on May 11.

2018 – The Twins shut out the White Sox 4-0 on their first visit to Target Field this year behind the 3-hit pitching of Jose Berrios who struck out 11 in his 7 innings of work. Ryan Pressly and Gabriel Moya finished up the shutout. Byron Buxton had two stolen bases as he went 1 for 3. First baseman Joe Mauer was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. Mauer’s 2,000 hit was off White Sox reliever Alex Bummer. Mauer joins Kirby Puckett (2,304) and Rod Carew (2,085) as the only players in Twins history (since 1961) to accomplish the feat. Mauer recorded his at 34 years, 11 months and 24 days, Puckett recorded his at 34 years, 25 days and Carew recorded his at 32 years, 9 months and 14 days. A breakdown of Mauer’s hits: 1,429 hits, 405 doubles, 29 triples and 137 home runs.

2016 No game today, scheduled day off.

2013 – The New York Mets thumped the Twins 16-5 at Target Field. The temperature at game time was 34 degrees and snow flurries were evident throughout the game. Twins fans came layered in ski gear, hunting clothes and whatever else they could find to keep warm. The Twins provided free coffee and hot chocolate to the Twins fans at the gate as they entered the ballpark. But the fact that the Mets batted around in each of the first 2 innings putting up 10 runs did little to warm Twins fans. Twins starter Vance Worley lasted just one inning giving up 7 hits and walked two more and allowed 9 runs, 7 of which were earned. Daniel Murphy, David Wright and John Buck each had four RBI and scored seven runs between them. With the Mets leading 10-2 after two innings there wasn’t much reason for Twins fans to hang around. The announced attendance was 23,735, but that’s tickets sold and not the actual number of people inside. Box Score

2012 – After a slow start to the 2012 season the 1-4 Twins take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at Target Field with Francisco Liriano going for the Twins against Dan Haren of the Angels. Things looked bleak for Minnesota when the Angels jumped out to a 6-0 lead but the Twins score 3 in the fifth, 3 more in the seventh and four in the eighth to complete the come-back and then have to hold on as the Angels score twice in the ninth against Twins closer Matt Capps to make it a final score of Twins 10 and Angels 9. The home-town crowd of 31,782 was downright surly when the Angels jumped out to a 5-0 lead and both Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer heard boo’s when they came up empty with the bases loaded in the third inning. The Twins had 20 hits including home runs by Joe Mauer (1), Josh Willingham (4), and Justin Morneau (1). Playing in their third season at Target Field, this was the first time that the M & M boys had homered in the same game in their home ballpark. The Angels stole five bases with Liriano on the mound and Mauer behind the plate and this didn’t make the fans any happier either. Jeff Gray (2-0) the fifth Twins pitcher of the day who had one big league win on his resume entering this season got his second win of the season following a win yesterday. All it took was one pitch yesterday and two pitches today, two wins and three pitches thrown, “just the right spot at the right time,” Gray said. Twins lead-off hitter Denard Span had four hits in five AB’s, Mauer, Willingham and Danny Valencia each had three hits. Box Score

2010 – In their 2010 home opener and the first regular season game at Target Field the Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 5-2 with starter Carl Pavano getting the win and Red Sox starter Jon Lester took the loss. Closer Jon Rauch recorded the first save at Target Field. The first hit was a single by Red Sox lead off hitter Marco Scutaro who was later thrown out trying to steal second base. The first Twins hit was a single by Orlando Hudson. The first home run at Target Field was a 391 foot shot to right off the bat of Jason Kubel in the 7th inning. Game time temperature was 65 degrees with partly sunny skies. Attendance was 39,715, slightly over the capacity figure of 39,504. Paid attendance was 38,145. The game lasted 2:59. Box Score

2005 – The Twins walk-off the Tigers 5-4 at the Dome when Shannon Stewart gets a ground rule double off Troy Percival in the bottom of the 9th and breaks a streak in which Percival had not allowed the Twins to score an earned run over 40 innings since 1995. Juan Rincon gets the win in relief. Box Score

2002 – After starting the season with 10 straight road games in Kansas City, Toronto and Cleveland the 5-5 Twins finally get to play a home game. The Twins jump on Tigers starter Mark Redman for four runs in the second inning and hold on for the win. In their first sellout since winning the World Series in 1991, Brad Radke and the Twins beat the Tigers in their home opener, 4-2, in front of 48,244 loud and enthusiastic fans at the Metrodome. The Minnesota franchise had been considered for elimination due to MLB’s contraction plan proposed during the off-season. The Tigers record drops to 0-10 after the loss. Box Score

1991 – After losing two of three in Oakland the Twins were happy to get back home to the Metrodome to take on the California Angels. 45,866 Twins fans packed the Metrodome to see Kevin Tapani and Jim Abbott face off. The Twins scored one in the first, one in the second, two in the third and again in the fifth and that was all they needed for a nice 6-0 complete game (113 pitches) shutout by Kevin Tapani (1-0) allowing seven hits while striking out nine. Jim Abbott (0-1) took the loss. There were no home runs but Kirby Puckett had 3 hits and Chili Davis and Scott Leius each added two more. I gotta say though, it was odd to see Kent Hrbek hitting seventh. Box Score

1990 – The Twins and Rangers hook up on a deal and the Twins get second baseman Fred Manrique and the Rangers receive pitcher Jeff Satzinger. The Minnesota native Jeff Satzinger never reached the major leagues.

Six Twins games missed due to the strike so far.

1970No game today. A rain and snow mixture postponed today’s game against the Oakland A’s until August 10th. Heavy snow is on the way and tomorrow’s game against the Kansas City Royals is also postponed.

1969 – Another day and another loss for the Minnesota Twins as they score 3 runs for the fourth straight game. The Twins took an early 2-0 lead bu Twins starter Dave Boswell could not hold it. Boswell pitched five innings giving up four runs on six hits and six walks while striking out five and took the loss. Martin used an unusual line-up with Bob Allison leading off and George Mitterwald hitting clean-up but it paid off as both players hit home runs. With their 4-3 loss the Twins are now 0-4, in last place in the AL West and just one of three teams with a 0 in the “W” column in MLB. Box Score

1966 – The Twins open the 1966 season at home at Met Stadium against the Kansas City Athletics. Both starting pitchers goes the distance on a 52 degree day, Mudcat Grant for the Twins and Catfish Hunter for the A’s. As might be expected the game turns into a pitchers duel. The Twins score first on a Sandy Valdespino single that scores Bernie Allen in the third. The A’s get the run back on a Mike Hershberger triple leading off the fourth inning and he scores on a ground out. The score remains knotted at 1-1 going into the bottom of the ninth. Zoilo Versalles walks to lead off the ninth inning, advances to second on a wild pitch and then scores the walk-off run on a single by Sandy Valdespino who gets his second hit and RBI of the game. 21,658 fans enjoy the quick 1 hour and 45 minute Twins win. Mudcat Grant is credited with his first win of the season. The Twins are out-hit 6 to 4 but get the win. The only extra-base hit by the Twins is a Don Mincher double. Box Score

Bob Allison’s wind-blown fly ball in the 11th drops untouched for a three-base error by Hector Lopez, one of eight errors the two teams committed on this day.
