2021 – The Twins scored the games first six runs but unfortunately the visiting Seattle Mariners scored the last eight runs and won the game 8-6 and took two of three in the series. Shoemaker who was unhappy with some of the calls mentioned that to the umpire and before he knew it he was headed for the showers. The Mariners scored one more in the seventh and the Twins took a 6-5 lead into the ninth. 2016 – The Twins finally found their way home to Target Field after opening the season with 6 winless games on the road and a total of 12 runs scored.  The Twins record and the weather of 42 degrees and 21 mile per hour winds didn’t scare off an announced crowd of 40,638 who hoped to see the Twins first win of the season as the 4-2 Chicago White Sox were in town for the Home Opener. Kyle Gibson had starting honors for the home team and the mighty whities sent out Jose Quintana. The White Sox were up 3-0 in the fourth before the Twins finally pushed their first run across home plate in the bottom of the frame. It turned out to be the only scoring the Twins would do on this day and the Twins walked off to boo’s from the home crowd on Opening Day at home after a 4-1 set-back and a Twins record seven straight losses to start the season. Quintana (1-0) got the win for Chicago and Gibson (0-2) took the loss for Minnesota with 3 runs allowed, just one earned, over 5.2 innings with 6 hits allowed. Just 6 safeties for the Twins and Eduardo Escobar had two of them. Box Score

The Twins lost because they had just six hits and were 0 for 5 with RISP. George Brunet the chubby lefty and Twins nemesis went eight innings for the win before being pulled in the ninth after giving up back-to-back home runs to Minnesota to lead off the ninth. Hoyt Wilhelm came in to get the next three Twins for the save in a game that was over in 2 hours and 30 minutes. Catcher Tom Tischinski and pitcher Charlie Walters made their big league debuts today.
