The Minnesota Twins have announced that High-A Cedar Rapids infielder Luke Keaschall and right-handed pitcher C.J. Culpepper have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the week.

MLB Pipeline has Keaschall rated the Twins ninth best prospect. Twins trade Polanco to Mariners

Just before bed time here in Florida on Monday night I saw the news that the Minnesota Twins were in the process of finalizing their trade of Jorge Polanco the switch-hitting second baseman who has been a regular part of the Twins infield since 2016 to the Seattle Mariners for four players, two experienced major league players and two minor league players and cash. The will get right-handed starter Anthony DeSclafani and reliever Justin Topa, and two minor leaguers, outfielder Gabriel Gonzalez and pitcher Darren Bowen. The Mariners will also send cash (rumored to be $8 million) to the Twins, the teams announced.

The Twins second second base job has multiple suitors and the soon to be 31 year-old Polanco was slated to make $10.5 million this season. Polanco was liked by his teammates and his fans alike and will be missed in Minnesota. But I have the feeling that we have not seen the last of the franchise leader in home runs by a switch-hitter and longest-tenured Twins player.

Polanco was signed by scout Fred Guerrero for the Minnesota Twins in 2009. On March 18, 2018, he received an 80-game suspension for testing positive for the banned old-school steroid, Stanozolol. Polanco claimed that he had consumed the steroid inadvertently, as he thought he was taking a simple vitamin supplement in his native Dominican Republic. In 2019, “Chulo” was the first player to hit for the cycle that season. This marked the start of an outstanding first half in which he was the Twins’ best offensive player while they were the best team in the American League. He was in turn elected as the starting shortstop in the 2019 All-Star Game.

Twins minor league players of the week are Cardenas & Culpepper

The Minnesota Twins have announced that High-A Cedar Rapids catcher Noah Cardenas and Cedar Rapids right-handed pitcher C.J. Culpepper have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the Week for week 24.

According to Jim Callis, Culpepper signed with Minnesota for $125,000. This is the third time this season Culpepper has won this award. MLB currently has C. J. rated as the Twins 14th best prospect on MLB Pipeline and you can read more about Culpepper there.

Culpepper, 21, made the start for Kernels on Friday against Peoria in the decisive Game 3 of the Midwest League West Division Series, allowing one run on four hits in 5 innings
pitched, with one walk and eight strikeouts. Splitting his time between Ft. Myers and Cedar Rapids in 2023, Culpepper was 6-5 with a 3.56 ERA over 86 innings in which he had 89 strikeouts and allowing just 4 home runs.

Twins minor league players of the week are Peña & Culpepper

The Minnesota Twins have announced that Dominican Summer League infielder Dameury Pena and High-A Cedar Rapids right-handed pitcher C.J. Culpepper have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the Week for week 14.

The right-handed hitting Peña, played in four games, hitting .429 (6-for-14) with three doubles, one triple, two RBI, three runs scored, one walk, no strike-outs and a 1.252 OPS. On the season Peña is slashing .392/.444/.541 with 8 steals.

C. J. Culpepper was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft from California Baptist University (Riverside, CA). According to Jim Callis, Culpepper signed with Minnesota for $125,000. This is the second time this season Culpepper has won this award. MLB currently has C. J. rated as the Twins 26th best prospect on MLB Pipeline and you can read more about Culpepper there.
