Twins minor league players of the week are C.J. Culpepper & Yunior Severino

The Minnesota Twins have announced that Double-A Wichita infielder Yunior Severino and Low-A Fort Myers right-handed pitcher C.J. Culpepper have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the Week for week six.

C. J. Culpepper was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 13th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft from California Baptist University (Riverside, CA). According to Jim Callis, Culpepper signed with Minnesota for $125,000 and has four-pitches with his slider being his best pitch along with a 88-93 mph fastball.

Culpepper, 21, is right-handed and made his last start on Friday against Tampa, allowing one run on four hits in 5.1 innings pitched, with one walk and eight strikeouts, earning the win for the Mighty Mussels. Christopher Joseph Culpepper is 6’3″ and 186lb. In five starts this season Culpepper has pitched 23.1 innings and allowed 19 hits with a 1.114 WHIP while striking out 19.

Yunior Severino, a Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native was signed by the Twins as an international

Severino, 23, and in his sixth season of pro ball (no MiLB in 2020) hit .444 (8-for-18) with two doubles, three home runs, six RBI, three walks, a .524 on-base percentage and a 1.056 slugging percentage for the Wind Surge. Severino was drafted as a second baseman but has been all his time to third base with Wichita this season.
