Twins minor league players of the week are Matt Wallner & Brent Headrick

The Minnesota Twins have announced that Triple-A outfielder Matt Wallner and Triple-A left-handed pitcher Brent Headrick have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the Week for week nine. Twins Rookie and DSL leagues begin play today (June 5).

Brent Headrick was Drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 9th round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft from Illinois State University (Normal, IL). Headrick signed with Minnesota for a reported $130,000. MLB Pipeline currently has Headrick as the Twins 24th best prospect. More info on Headrick. The 6’6″ lefty made his big league debut earlier this season.

Headrick, 25, pitched 5 innings of relief on Tuesday at Buffalo, allowing one run on five hits in 5 innings pitched with no walks and seven strikeouts. This season in Triple-A St. Paul, Headrick has started 5 of the 8 games he has appeared in this season but it appears the Twins are trying to make him a relief pitcher. In 37.2 innings he has allowed 43 hits and struck out 48 but his WHIP is 1.407 so his control needs some work.

Twins minor league players of the week are Miller & Headrick

This weeks Minnesota Twins minor league players of the week are Low-A Fort Myers infielder Noah Miller and High-A Cedar Rapids left-handed pitcher Brent Headrick.

Noah Miller was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 1st round (36th) of the 2021 MLB June Amateur Draft from Ozaukee HS (Fredonia, WI). Miller had committed to play at Alabama before signing with the Twins for $1.7 million. Noah Miller is currently rated as the Twins ninth best prospect in 2022.

Miller (6’1″/190) has been playing at shortstop in the Twins system and reportedly had elite fielding and offensive skills. I saw Miller play in a Twins ST exhibition game this spring and he is fun to watch in the field. Miller is a switch-hitter and started his pro career in 2021 with the FCL Twins and in 2022 started with the Low-A Ft. Myers Mighty Mussels.

Miller, 19, played in five games for the Mighty Mussels this past week, hitting .556 (10-for-18) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, three RBI, four runs scored, four walks, a .636 on-base percentage, a .636 slugging percentage and a 1.581 OPS.

Twins Minor League POW are Jose Miranda & Brent Headrick

With no MiLB played in 2020 due to COVID we have not had any Minnesota Twins players of the week since September 2019. It is nice to get things a little more back to normal. The MiLB season started about a month later than normal and the Appalachian League has been discontinued. The Twins discontinued their AAA relationship with the Rochester Red Wings and their new AAA St. Paul Saints team is just across the Mississippi River. What a wonderful deal for the Minnesota Twins and fans of minor league baseball. The Twins new AA team is the Wichita Wind Surge of the Double-A Central League Northern Division. The Cedar Rapids Kernels are now the High-A team and the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels are the Low-A team.

The Rookie League Gulf Coast league Twins and the Dominican Summer League Twins will begin play later this year.
