Twins minor league players of the week are Ross & Matthews

The Minnesota Twins have announced that High-A Cedar Rapids shortstop Ben Ross and Low-A Ft. Myers right-handed pitcher Zebby Matthews have been named Twins minor league Player and Pitcher of the Week for week two.

Ben Ross was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 5th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft from Notre Dame College (South Euclid, OH). Ross received a $220,000 bonus to sign with Minnesota. The 21 year-old Ross is currently rated as the Twins 29th best prospect according to MLB Pipeline.

In the last week, Ross, a right-handed hitter appeared in 4 games going 8 for 17 with two doubles, a home run and 3 RBI with a slash line of .471/.444/.765. Last season with Ft. Myers played all four infield positions as well as the corner outfield. This year Ross is playing the corner infield positions. Addition info on Ross can be seen here.

Zebby Matthews was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 8th round of the 2022 MLB June Amateur Draft from Western Carolina University (Cullowhee, NC). The 6’5″ right-handed Daniel Zebulon Matthews signed with Minnesota for a signing bonus of $125,000. According to Jim Callis, Matthews led the Southern Conference with 122 K in 95.2 IP, 90-94 mph fastball touches 96, low-80s slider misses bats.

In two starts this season Matthews pitched 10 innings, has a 2-0 record with no runs allowed, 3 hits and has struck out 14 batters while walking one. That is some impressive pitching.
