  1. I forgot to mention that on the same day that Finley played Campaneris against
the California Angels, another momentous occasion
was playing itself out. Some guy named Koufax pitched
a perfect game against the Cubs at Dodger Stadium.

  2. Ah, September 1965. Kansas City is 40 games out in the standings.
Charlie Finley needs something to draw attention. On September 8th,
he has Bert Campanella play each inning at a different position, becoming the
first player to do so. Not to be outdone, two weeks later with the Twins having
clinched the American League pennant, Sam Mele does the same with super
    utility guy Cesar Tovar.

Not to be outdone, three days later Finley brings back 59 year old Satchel Paige
to pitch against the Boston Red Sox. Satchel shuts out the Red Sox, just barely ahead
of the A’s in the standings.

Two weeks later, the Twins play one of the more exciting World Series against the
Dodgers. The great sliding catch in left field by Bobby Allison in game 2. The great game by Mudcat Grant to set up a classic game seven with Jim Kaat facing Sandy Koufax.

The memories of a 14 year kid still stay stored in some region of the brain 57 years later
more clear than other recollections. Congrats to Tovar for being named to Twins HOF and Kaat and Tony Oliva to Cooperstown.
