Twins Minor League POW are Spencer Steer & Jordan Gore

Week six finds another repeater (week two) as the Twins minor league position player of the week with infielder Spencer Steer. Steer who was born in Long Beach, California was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 3rd round of the 2019 MLB June Amateur Draft from University of Oregon (Eugene, OR). The 5’11” Steer had previously been drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 29th round in 2016 but did not sign with them. Steer is primarily playing second base for the High A Cedar Rapids Kernels this year but he has also played shortstop and third base.

Steer who was on fire this past week played in six games for the Kernels, hitting .333 (9-for-27) with one double, six home runs, 11 RBI, four walks and a 1.456 OPS, including two two-homer games, one on Sunday at Fort Wayne and one on Wednesday at Beloit. MLB Pipeline recently added Spencer Steer to the Minnesota Twins 2021 top 30 prospect list. You can follow Steer on twitter at @spenc__er .

Our week six Twins minor league pitcher of the week is Jordan Gore. Gore was drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the 19th round of the 2017 MLB June Amateur Draft from Coastal Carolina University (Conway, SC) as shortstop. The switch-hitting Gore appeared as a pitcher for one game in 2018 and in three games in 2019 and appears to have made a full time transition to pitcher in 2021. Twins Spotlight (episode 35) with Seth Stohs of Twins Daily did an interview with Jordan Gore this past March and you can catch that at https://youtu.be/cM3cLOGthsw .

Gore made two relief appearances for the Kernels this past week and combined to allow one run on one hit in 5.0 innings with no walks and 12 strikeouts. Focusing on pitching in 2021, Gore, a 6’0″ right-hander has appeared in 11 games this season for the High A Cedar Rapids Kernels and struck out 38 batters in 23 innings while allowing only 11 walks and 14 hits. Gore has allowed ten runs but to be fair he allowed five of those ten runs in one game. You can follow Gore on Twitter @jordangore3

  1. Hope for the future, John. It’s going to be a long
    Summer for Twins fans.

    Sad news about Mudcat Grant.
That win-or-go home game 6 of the 1965 Series
gave the Twins somehope after losing those 3 middle games in LA.

As I told you before, that WS was one of the best I’d
seen as a young kid, especially that 7th game.

    RIP, James Timothy Grant.

    1. I had a chance to talk with Mudcat on a couple of occasions and he was fun to talk to. What I liked best is that he listened to what others had to say.
