Are Twins games and baseball games really too long?

How about some fun facts about the length of Twins games?

  • During the Metrodome era (1982-2009) Twins home and away games averaged 2 hours and 49 minutes.
  • During the Target Field era (2010-current) Twins home and away games average 3 hours and 3 minutes.

For additional information on the length of Twins games year by year and how the Minnesota Twins compare to the the AL, NL and MLB in general you need to stop by our Length of games including longest Twins games page. MLB has tried a variety of things to shorten the average MLB game without much success. What is the logic behind having shorter games? Longer games mean that baseball fans are in the ballpark for a longer period of time watching baseball, a game they enjoy or they wouldn’t be there in the first place. When fans are at the ballpark they are hungry and thirsty and the team is selling more beer and food not to mention souvenir’s, is that a problem?

Attendance is dropping you say? Maybe there are other reasons for that like the price of parking, the price of the tickets, food and drink prices, teams tanking, etc. Or maybe fans have too many different ways to watch the games on television and a host of streaming options that allow them to watch the games from the comfort of home on their phones, tablets, PC’s and TV’s in every room. MLB teams are making money hand over fist with their TV and streaming deals and encouraging fans to use them and then they complain that attendance at the ballpark is diminishing. You can’t have your cake and eat it too MLB. These are all items that are controlled by MLB and the teams and maybe it is time to look in the mirror and see where the problems really exist, you just might find that the game itself is fine and that the real problem is your greed.

If you want to do something to make baseball fans happy all across the country? Change your archaic TV blackout rules and let everyone watch any game that they want when they want.
