2025 – The Twins season number 65 against the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium III in the earliest season opener (home or away) they have played. It is only the second time they open the season again a National League team with Milwaukee being the first. The Twins open their 65th season of play by losing in St. Louis by a score of 5-3, dropping their first Opening Day since a 2-1 loss to the Mariners on April 8, 2022 at Target Field. Pablo López made his third consecutive Opening Day start, allowing four runs (2 earned) on eight hits in 5 innings pitched, with no walks and three strikeouts. The Twins were down four-zip before putting 2 runs on the board in the fifth and one more in the sixth but that was all they would get. The offense recorded eight hits, two apiece from Trevor Larnach and Harrison Bader. Bader hit the club’s first home run of the season with a fifth inning two-run shot and added a double in the 8th inning. Cardinals starter and former Twin Sonny Gray (1-0) got the win. Box Score



2023 – A couple of trades today. The Philadelphia Phillies traded LHP Gabriel Yanez to Minnesota Twins for undisclosed compensation. The Minnesota Twins traded LHP Danny Coulombe to Baltimore Orioles for cash.


2020 – No Twins vs A’s game in Oakland today due to COVID-19
2010 – The University of Minnesota Gophers lost to Louisiana Tech 9-1 in the first baseball game played at the Twins’ new home, Target Field. More than 37,757 people came through the turnstiles after they opened in the morning for fans to take a look, sit in the seats and sample the food. Tickets were $2, with proceeds going to the team’s community fund. Former Gophers and Twins catcher Terry Steinbach threw out the ceremonial first pitch. Louisiana Tech’s Clint Ewing hit the ballpark’s first home run.

2005 – Bob Casey, the first and only Minnesota Twins public-address announcer passes away. Twins announcer Casey dies at age 79

1985 – The Twins move pitcher Brad Havens to the Orioles and receive pitcher Mark Brown.


1973 – Twins’ pitcher Jim Perry becomes the first player to use the ’10 and 5 rule’ when he approves his trade to the Detroit Tigers for minor league pitcher Dan Fife and cash.
