2021 – Supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the U.S. Capitol, where Congress was meeting to certify Joe Biden’s win in the 2020 election; Trump and his backers alleged widespread voter fraud, though there was no evidence for the claims.

2004 – Paul Molitor and Dennis Eckersley are named to the Hall of Fame by the baseball writers. Molitor, a Minnesota native, played for the Twins from 1996 through 1998. Paul Molitor was named as Minnesota Twins manager replacing Ron Gardenhire after the 2014 season. Paul Molitor SABR Bio

1967Joe Haynes who had been an all-star AL pitcher, brother-in-law of Twins owner Calvin Griffith and Twins vice-president passed away of a heart attack at the age of 49 while shoveling snow in Hopkins, Minnesota. SABR Bio
