Nick Gordon tied the game at 5-5 with a seventh-inning RBI-single, then gave the Twins a 6-5 lead with another RBI-single in the top of the ninth. The offense recorded 13 hits, three from both Gordon and Luis Arraez. Jake Cave, Gordon and Arraez drove in all the runs, recording two RBI apiece. 2020 – The winners of four in a row after breaking a six game losing streak the Twins sent Kenta Maeda out to the Target Field mound to face the Detroit Tigers and rookie Tarik Skubal. Tiger lead-off hitter Victor Reyes greeted Maeda with a long home run to right field and the Tigers had a 1-0 lead. A lead they would keep until the Twins tied it up in the fifth when Eddie Rosario grounded into a double play. After the lead-off home run, Maeda retired 18 Tigers in a row until he gave up a walk and a single to start the seventh and Rocco Baldelli called for Tyler Clippard to put an end to the budding rally. However; Clippard gave up three consecutive singles before getting out of the inning and the Twins found themselves down 3-1. A Miguel Sano solo home run (9) in the bottom of the inning made it 3-2. It came down to the bottom of the ninth with the Tigers sending Jose Cisnero out to protect a one run lead. Josh Donaldson led off with a walk, Nelson Cruz singled putting runners at first and second, Jake Cave struck out for out number one, Miguel Sano singled scoring Ehire Adrianza who was pinch-running for Donaldson making it a 3-3 tie game. Rosario grounded out for the second out of the inning but then took second base on indifference bringing up Byron Buxton (who was 0 for 3 on the day with two strikeouts) with runners at second and third. With a 2-2 count Buxton hit a slow bouncer to short and Buxton’s speed got him to first before Tiger shortstop Willi Castro’s throw arrived allowing Nelson Cruz to score the walk-off winning run and extending the Twins winning streak to five, good for a second place tie with Cleveland just a half game off the heels of the leading White Sox. The win was the Twins first of the season in which they had trailed after eight innings. Jorge Alcala (2-1) who pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth got the win. Box Score
2019 – The Twins take game three from the Red Sox by a score of 2-1, making them 20-11 in one-run games (3rd best in baseball). It marked their first series win in Fenway since 2013. Martín Pérez (10-6) was the starter and winner, allowing one run on just two hits in six innings (70 pitches) of pitching. Perez becomes the fifth Twins starter with double digit victories (Odorizzi – 14, Gibson – 13, Berríos – 11, Pineda – 11). The offense walked a season-high nine times, recorded just two hits, both singles, marking the first time the Twins have won with two hits since August 23, 2005 versus the White Sox. Luis Arraez and Willians Astudillo each had one hit as Astudillo’s pinch-hit single drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh. Eddie Rosario threw out Rafael Devers at home plate with two outs in the ninth to end the game and give the Twins an amazing finish to their 8-2 road trip, their best since 1991. The two singles also snapped a streak of 93 games with an extra-base hit, second longest in club history. The Twins had a 98 game streak with extra-base hits from June 9 to September 29, 2009. The 87-53 Twins with a 6.5 game lead on Cleveland now head home to take on the Indians. Box Score
2018 – The Twins lose their fifth game in a row and get swept for the seventh time this season as they get whipped 9-1 at Minute Maid by the home town Houston Astros. They finish their nine-game road trip with a 2-7 record and are still searching for their first win this month. Jake Odorizzi started and went 4.2 innings allowing five earned runs on four hits but two of those were home runs. Odorizzi took his 10th loss of the season. DH Willians Astudillo hit his second home run of the season. The loss dropped the Twins record to 63-76 and with the way they are playing now another 90 loss season looks to be in the cards. 2016 – Brian Dozier slammed three homers, his 36th, 37th and 38th of the season in a Labor Day afternoon game at Target Field and had 4 RBI, the Royals however; came away the 11-5 victors in Minneapolis. 2011 – Former Twins pitcher Philip Humber shuts out the Twins for seven innings at Target Field allowing 6 hits and gets his ninth win. The Twins push one run across in the ninth on a Luke Hughes sac fly but that is it as the White Sox bring in Chris Sale to pitch to Twins pinch-hitter Jason Repko. Repko goes down swinging and Chris Sale gets the save as the White Sox beat the Twins 2-1. Sale was a relief pitcher in 2010-2011 when his big league career was just starting. Brian Dinkelman had 3 of the Twins 7 hits. Anthony Swarzak pitched a solid 8 innings allowing just 2 runs but takes the defeat. Box Score
Rookie Zach Stewart takes a perfect game into the 8th inning against the Twins, before Danny Valencia leads off the frame with a double. Stewart allows no other baserunners, settling for a 114 pitch complete game one-hit shutout win, 4 – 0, for the Chicago White Sox to complete a doubleheader sweep. This is the only shutout and complete game that Stewart will pitch in his short two-year big league career. The mighty whitey’s out hit Minnesota 13 to 1 in the game. Scott Diamond gives up 2 runs in 5 innings for Minnesota and takes the loss. Box Score
2010 – As part of the Minnesota Twins 50th anniversary celebration week-end, the Twins played a 3 inning “Legends” game. The Minnies played the Paul’s and the managers were Tom Kelly and Frank Quilici. The Minnies won the game 5-1. Kent Hrbek was a huge hit with the fans when he took out a huge divot in the Target Field turf while going for a foul pop-up. Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington took part in the game as a member of the Minnies but Twins manager Ron Gardenhire passed up the chance to play.
The “real” game was played after the Legends game and the Twins beat the Rangers by a score of 6-5 but it was how this game ended that had everyone buzzing. Let me set the stage because we were there to witness this first hand. After 8 innings the Twins led 6-2 and appeared to have the game well in hand but in the top of the ninth with Jon Rauch on the mound for the Twins starting his second inning of relief after Nick Blackburn had pitched the first 7 innings, Ian Kinsler started the 9th inning with a single. Rauch then retired Mitch Moreland and Matt Treanor on strikeouts but Julio Borbon doubled to left scoring Kinsler. Gardenhire then brought in his closer Matt Capps who proceeded to give up a single to former Twins infielder Cristian Guzman and Borbon scored the second run of the inning. Michael Young singled and David Murphy then walked to load the bases. Vladimir Guerrero reached on an infield single up the middle that Twins second baseman Orlando Hudson fielded behind the bag. Young came running around third and, in the view of third base umpire Alfonso Marquez, briefly tapped hands with Texas third base coach Dave Anderson. Young then stopped and scrambled back to the bag. He made a dive and appeared to beat Hudson’s throw to third baseman Matt Tolbert. But standing near the base, Marquez pointed and made the interference call for the third out and the Twins walked away winners as Texas manager Washington and Young pleaded their case to the umps to no avail. Also strange was the fact that Twins closer Matt Capps came in with 2 out in the ninth and faced four batters, giving up a single, another single, a walk and yet another single and never really retiring anybody but yet ended up with the save and credit for 1/3 of an inning pitched. Jason Kubel had two hits in the game and first baseman Michael Cuddyer was 1 for 4 with a double and two RBI. Box Score
1997 – The Seattle Mariners score three times in three different innings and beat the Twins at the Dome 10-6. Catcher Terry Steinbach and first baseman Paul Molitor had two hits apiece. Box Score
The Atlanta Braves send first baseman Steve Hacker to the Twins for catcher Greg Myers.

1978 – Despite a balmy 81-degree game-time temperature and a promotion in which the Twins gave away a car at the game, the Tuesday evening game between the Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins drew a sparse turnout of 3,630. Those who decided not to come to the ballpark not only missed out on an opportunity to win a new car, they also missed one of the most bizarre plays in Metropolitan Stadium history that left members of both teams “saying they’d never seen a play like it.” Twenty-one-year-old rookie left-hander Steve Trout got the start for the White Sox. The son of right-hander Dizzy Trout, who won 170 games for the Tigers and Red Sox between 1939 and 1952, he was making his first major-league start. He was opposed by another rookie, Roger Erickson. The 22-year-old right-hander entered the game with a record of 13-9 and 4.15 earned-run average. The Twins Danny Ford costs his team a run during a 4-3 loss to the White Sox at Met Stadium. Trailing 4-0 in the seventh, Ford is on third with the bases loaded when Bombo Rivera singles, Ford backpedaling homeward, signaling Jose M. Morales who was on second to follow him home. Morales arrives there ahead of Ford, and is called out for passing Ford on the bases. Morales and Rivera each had three hits. Box Score

1961 – Today’s game at the Met was one for the record books as it ended in a 3-3 tie when the game was called after nine innings due to heavy fog. It was the first tie game in Minnesota Twins history. The game was delayed due to fog for 30 minutes in the sixth inning and again for 37 minutes after nine innings before it was declared a tie game at 11:50 p.m.. Almost immediately after the game was called it started to drizzle and a breeze cleared the fog but it was too late. Twins starter Jack Kralick faced off against Billy Pierce and it was a 1-1 game after seven innings. The White Sox took a 2-1 lead in the top of the eighth on a Camilo Carreon double that scored Luis Aparicio whose short fly to left two batters earlier wasn’t seen by Jim Lemon or Lenny Green due to the fog and rolled all the way to the wall. But the Twins bounced back with two of their own in the bottom of the inning off reliever Turk Lown when Bill Tuttle hit a wicked shot off the glove of third baseman Andy Carey who was playing in for a play at the plate and the ball rolled into left field scoring two runs. White Sox outfielder Al Smith led off the ninth inning with a long home run to left off Kralick’s first pitch of the ninth inning tying the game at 3-3. Kralick then allowed another single and was relieved by Don Lee who escaped without any further damage. When the Twins came to bat in the bottom of the ninth the White Sox outfielders could not be seen from the Press box due to the heavy fog but White Sox reliever Warren Hacker retired the Twins 1-2-3 by striking out PH Julio Becquer and Lenny Green and then getting Billy Martin to pop up to the catcher for the final out before the game was deemed a tie. All the stats in the game counted as if the game had a real outcome. Earl Battey had two the Twins Twins six hits and Bob Allison hit HR number 29. Warren Hacker is not related to the Eric Hacker who pitched briefly for the Twins in 2011. Box Score
