2020 – Twins starter Rich Hill struggled with his control in the first inning at Wrigley Field as the Twins took on the Chicago Cubs. Hill walked the first two batters after full counts and then allowed a single to Willson Contreras that scored the first run of the game and as it turned out, the final run of the game at the same time as the Cubs beat the Twins 1-0 as each team was only able to get three hits. Hill (2-2) took the loss throwing a season high 95 pitches over seven innings allowing just the one run on three hits while whiffing five. Kyle Hendriks (6-4) got the win for the Cubbies going eight innings allowing no runs on three hits but he struck out ten Twins batters along the way. It is only the second time this season the Twins have been held scoreless without an extra-base hit in a game. The two hour and 34 minute game was the quickest nine inning affair of the year. The Twins have now scored 877 runs, tying the Twins record for most runs scored in a season (also 877 in 1996), the all-time Twins/Senators franchise (since 1901) record is 892 set in 1930. 2015 – No game today. Twins versus Angels game at Target Field was postponed due to rain and will be made up as part of a double header tomorrow.

2014 – No game today, scheduled day off.

2006 – No game today, scheduled day off.

2002 – Designated Hitter Matt LeCroy singles in Dustan Mohr who had doubled and the Twins take a 1-0 lead in the first inning at Comerica Park. Turns out that it will be all the offense the Twins will need to beat the Tigers on this day but they add an insurance run in the eighth and win the game 2-0. Four Twins pitchers, Joe Mays, Johan Santana, Michael Jackson and Eddie Guardado combine for the six hit shutout of the Tigers at Comerica Park. Denny Hocking was 2 for 2 on the day with a run scored. Eddie Guardado saved his 43rd game of the season and in the process set a new Twins save record. Eddie will end the season with 45 games saved in 2002, his first season as a closer. Box Score

1980 – A Roy Smalley error and two Dave Edwards errors in the second inning at County Stadium turns a 1-0 Twins lead into a 7-1 deficit when the errors leads to the Milwaukee Brewers scoring 7 unearned runs off Geoff Zahn in just 1.2 innings. The Twins chip away at the Brewers and finally take the lead 8-7 with a four-run seventh inning only to see Doug Corbett blow his 7th save and see the Brewers walk-off the Twins 9-8 on a Gorman Thomas two-run home run in the ninth with two outs in the inning. Gary Ward who played left field in this, his 14th major league game and hit lead-off becomes the sixth Twins player to hit for the cycle when he does so against the Brewers. The home run was the first of his big league career. Ward is the first Twins player to hit for the cycle in a Twins defeat. All this and it was only game one. Box Score  game one

The Twins also lose game 2 of the doubleheader by a 5-0 score when Brewers starter Larry Sorensen pitches a complete game six hit shutout and the Brewers batter Twins starter and loser Pete Redfern for 3 runs in 3 innings.  John Castino and Mike Cubbage each had two hits in the game that lasted just 2 hours and 2 minutes, probably a blessing for the 6,039 fans that attended the DH. 1975 – Harmon Killebrew hits his 14th and final home run of 1975 which turns out to be the final home run (number 573) in the Hall of Famer’s wonderful career. The ironic twist of fate is that Harmon hits this home run as the DH for the Kansas City Royals at Met Stadium in front of just 3,201 Minnesota fans off Twins starting pitcher Eddie Bane as the Royals beat the Twins 4-3.  Box Score
