Joe Ryan (11-8) was the starter and winner, pitching 7 shutout innings (106 pitches) with two walks allowed, no hits and nine strikeouts. Jovani Moran pitched 2.0 relief innings, carrying the combined no-hitter for 8.1 innings, until a Bobby Witt Jr. run-scoring double. Urshela (12), Jose Miranda (15) and Carlos Correa (20) each homered, marking the club’s first three-homer game since August 30 vs. Boston. Joe Ryan improved to 4-0 against the Royals this season. Ryan became the first rookie in Twins/Senators history with a complete outing of at least 7.0 no-hit innings. Additionally, the nine strikeouts gave him 133 on the season, the fifth-most single-season strikeouts by a rookie in Twins/Senators history (1901-present); trails Jim Shaw (164 in 1914), Doc Ayers (148 in 1914), Francisco Liriano (144 in 2006) and Bert Blyleven (135 in 1970). 2021 – On what was scheduled to be day off, the Twins instead fly to New York to play the Yankees to make up a game postponed by Hurricane Henri on August 22.  The Twins lost starter John Gant after just two outs in the first inning with an apparent abdominal strain after taking a 4-0 lead to start the game on  two two-run home runs, one by by Jorge Polanco and the other by Miguel Sano. The Twins padded their lead 5-0 in the third on a Byron Buxton solo blast. The Yankees started pecking away with one run in the sixth and another in the seventh but it was the eighth inning that was costly. With one on and two outs and Tyler Duffey on the mound, home-plate umpire Jeff Nelson, called ball four on a Tyler Duffey pitch to Brett Gardner that appeared to have clipped the edge of the plate, extending the inning. Had it been called a strike, the Twins would have been out of the eighth with a 5-2 lead. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli didn’t agree with the call and Jeff Nelson asked him to leave the premises. Alex Colome was brought in to pitch to Aaron Judge and proceeded to give up an opposite field three-run home run and all of a sudden it was tied up at 5-5. Neither team scored in the ninth and the game went to extra innings. The Twins didn’t score in their half of the tenth and the Yankees quickly walked off the Twins when Gary Sanchez singled to left scored the designated runner that was at second and the Yankees were 6-5 winners over the upset Twins who seem to always find a way to lose to the Yankees. Ralph Garza took the loss for the Twins. Miguel Sano had three hits for the Twins including a home run and two RBI.  Box Score

Michael Pineda made his third start of the season, allowing three runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings. The offense mustered just seven hits but four of them were good for home runs by Josh Donaldson (4), Nelson Cruz (16), Marwin Gonzalez (5) and Ryan Jeffers (3). The Indians had not allowed more than seven home runs in any series this season until the Twins hit 11 in this series. The Indians had 13 hits in the game but the five Twins pitchers kept them to a 3 for 16 with RISP and managed to keep the Indians to just the five runs. Caleb Thielbar (2-0) who pitched just 2/3 of an inning banked the win. Box Score

2019Rained out – On this Friday the 13th the game between the Twins and Indians officially never happened even though it was called 45 minutes after the game started with the teams deadlocked at 2-2. Jorge Polanco’s home run that he claimed was the longest he had ever had hit doesn’t go into the record books and neither does Jake Odorizzi’s aborted start. The game was replayed in its entirety the next day as part of a doubleheader.

Alan Busenitz relieved Gonsalves and gave up a double and then back-to-back home runs and was taken out but it was too late, he earned his first loss of the season. 2014 – In game one of a DH at U.S. Cellular Field the Twins and White Sox combined for 29 strikeouts, setting a Twins record for combined strikeouts in one nine-inning game, passing previous record of 26, done exactly 19 years on the date, September 13, 1995 against Seattle. Jose Quintana struck out 13 Twins batters as he went 7 innings allowing one run on three hits for the win. Phil Hughes started for Minnesota and was looking for win number 16 but he allowed five runs, three earned in seven innings and all he got for his 11 strikeout effort was loss number 10. Twins batters could only come up with four hits and one of those was a Chris Parmelee pinch-hit double. Box Score game one

The Twins lost game two 7-6 when Glen Perkins blew the save (#6) by walking Jose Abreu, retiring Avisail Garcia on a ground out but then giving up a two-run walk-off home run to Dayan Viciedo and the Twins were swept on the day. Oswaldo Arcia was 2 for 4 with a home run and 3 RBI and Trevor Plouffe had a home run with 2 RBI but it was not good enough and the Twins record dropped to 62-86. Box Score Game two

1996 – In a very unusual game at the Metrodome, the Twins lose to the Mariners 13-7. Neither starter lasted more than 3 innings and Twins manager Tom Kelly went pinch-hitter crazy. The pinch-hitters go 3-8 with 2 singles and a double. The Twins use 17 position players and 5 pitchers and still come up short. Travis Miller started for Minnesota but it was not the pitchers night as he lasted but 3 innings allowing 6 runs on 6 hits. Mariners starter Sterling Hitchcock did even worse going just 1.2 innings and giving up 5 runs on 7 hits. Twins DH Paul Molitor was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI and catcher Matt Walbeck was 2 for 4 with a RBI and stolen base. Box Score
