2022 – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have hired Nick Paparesta as the club’s head athletic trainer. Nick Paparesta, the Oakland A’s head athletic trainer for the past 12 seasons, has been hired to run the Twins’ training staff, the team announced Thursday. Paparesta, who also served as an assistant trainer with the Rays for five seasons and as a minor league trainer in Cleveland’s system for a decade before that, replaces Michael Salazar, who was fired earlier this month following a season in which nearly every player on the Twins’ roster spent time on the injured list.
1991 – The Twins wrap up their 2nd World Series title in 4 years when Jack Morris pitches the Twins to a 10 inning 1-0 shutout win over John Smoltz and the Atlanta Braves at the Metrodome in what will be known as one of the best World Series pitching performances of all time. The Braves and Twins go scoreless through nine innings. Lonnie Smith is decoyed into pausing at second base to keep him from scoring the winner for Atlanta in the eighth. Gene Larkin’s single over a drawn-in outfield in the 10th is the difference in the first extra-inning Game Seven in 67 years. Dan Gladden has three of the Twins ten hits including two doubles. Jack Morris is named Series MVP. Both Atlanta and Minnesota had finished last in their respective divisions in the previous season. Box Score

1973 – The Twins complete two trades, in the first deal they send pitcher Ken Gill to Kansas City and they acquire pitcher Tom Burgmeier, in their second deal of the day, they send outfielder Charlie Manuel and catcher Glenn Ezell packing to the Dodgers and receive outfielders Jim Fairey and George Michael Floyd. Fairey never played for the Twins and Floyd never reached the big leagues. No image of Mike Floyd who is the older brother of Gavin Floyd. There is no record of Mike Floyd playing in the Twins organization so I am guessing he was selected by Houston organization in the 1973 MLB expansion draft.
1955 – Washington Senators owner Clark Griffith passes away at the age of 87. Control of the baseball club is passed to nephew and adopted son Calvin Griffith who is 45.
