2017 – Paul Molitor won the American League Manager of the Year award after his Minnesota Twins became the first team to make the playoffs following a 100-loss season. Molitor, the 61-year-old Minnesota native joins Frank Robinson as the only Hall of Fame players to win a manager of the year award. Molitor joins Ron Gardenhire and Tom Kelly as previous Twins managers that won the award. that was established in 1983. The Twins went 85-77 this season and earned their first playoff spot since 2010 before losing to the Yankees in the AL wild-card game. Last year, the Twins led the majors with 103 losses. Molitor played for the Twins from 1996-1998 and finished his 21 year big league career with Minnesota. Molitor became the Twins manager in 2015.

2003 – In a trade that will turn out great for the Twins, they send catcher A.J. Pierzynski and cash to the San Francisco Giants for pitchers Joe Nathan, Boof Bonser, and Francisco Liriano. Having said that, A.J. was a pretty good catcher for 19 seasons in the big leagues.

1979 – Twins pitcher David Goltz, the first player to be selected by the maximum thirteen teams in the first round of the free agent draft, signs a six-year, three-million dollar contract with the Dodgers. The former Twins’ pitcher (14-13, 4.16) will post a 9-19 record during his 2+ seasons with the club.
