2023 – BATS FINISH COLD IN HOTLANTA as the Twins get shut out by the Braves at Truist Park, losing by a score of 3-0. It marked the club’s second time being swept this season (also June 6-8 at TB). It was the sixth time the Twins have been shut out this season, five of which now have come on the road. Kenta Maeda (1-5) was the starter and loser, allowing two runs on five hits in 5 innings pitched, with two walks and four strikeouts. The struggling offense recorded just four hits, two came off the bat of Willi Castro. Minnesota also struck out 14 times and went 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, making them 0-for-23 with RISP over the three-game series. The loss dropped the Twins two games under .500 at 40-42 and dropped them into second place. Rocco Baldelli voiced his displeasure with the offense and said they were flat and made no adjustments what so ever. Baldelli took the rare step of closing the clubhouse to the press for a players-only meeting. Rocco Baldelli unloaded on his team in one room with the hope they were hashing out the same issues in the other. With the clubhouse closed for a lengthy players-only meeting, the Twins manager unleashed a series of harsh criticisms about his team’s dismal offense following a 3-0 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday. Braves fans must have enjoyed the series as 121,779 showed up to watch the Braves kick the Twins butts on a Monday thru Wednesday series. The Twins are now off to Baltimore where they will have tomorrow off before taking on the Orioles in a three-game series. Box Score

Unfortunately for Minnesota they do it in the second and ninth innings while the home team does it in the first, fifth and eighth and when the final score is on the board it shows the White Sox with 6 and the Twins with 4. Two Twins errors by Ehire Adrianza prove costly as starter Jose Berrios (8-4) goes 7.1 innings allowing 9 hits and 6 runs (3 earned) and is saddled with the loss. The hitting star today was Miguel Sano with a 2 for 4 day with 2 home runs, two runs and 4 RBI. Adrianza and Max Kepler also had two hits each. Former Twins executive Howard Fox passed away in Orlando, Florida at the age of 90. Fox had worked in a variety of roles with the Washington Senators and Minnesota Twins for over 50 years and worked his way up to club President in 1984 and until recently was part of the Twins Executive Board. For all his hard work with the Twins, fans may best remember Fox for a fight he had and lost in 1966 to then Twins coach Billy Martin. Many fans will still tell you today that Marin was fired after he took the 1969 Twins to the playoffs (they lost) because Fox talked Twins owner Calvin Griffith into firing Martin.
2007 – Frank Thomas hits a three-run homer off Twins hurler Carlos Silva in the first inning of the Blue Jay’s 8-5 loss at the Metrodome to become the 21st major leaguer to hit 500 home runs. The ‘Big Hurt’, who has hit 50 homers (10% ) against the Twins, also hit his first home run of his career in Minnesota in 1990 as a Chicago White Sox. Thomas is 2 for 4 in this game with a double to go along with his home run and 4 RBI. Box Score

In the same game, Australian Twins third baseman Glenn Williams runs his hitting streak to 13 games getting a hit in every single game of his short career after spending 12 years in the minors. Unfortunately, he separates his shoulder and goes on the Disabled List. Williams never plays in another major league baseball game. Box Score

1961 – It was a hot day in Minneapolis as the temperature peaked at 95 degrees but it was only 92 degrees in Bloomington when Camilo Pascual threw the first pitch in a night game against the Boston Red Sox. The Twins out hit the Red Sox 5 to 4 at Met Stadium but lose 6-2. Twins starter and loser Camilo Pascual walked 5 batters in 6.1 innings and stories circulated that Pascual was tipping his pitches. That being said, it didn’t help that the Twins committed two errors behind him costing two unearned runs and the loss dropped his record to 5-10. Meanwhile Red Sox starter Ike Delock walked one and pitched a complete game for his fifth win of the season. Bob Allison was 2 for 4 with a double and a home run for Mele’s team. Box Score
