2023 – The Twins shut out the Red Sox afternoon game at Target Field on a warm 86 degree day in front of a nice crowd of 28,553 by a score of 6-0, finishing the four-game series with a 2-2 tie. Joe Ryan (8-4) pitched the shutout, allowing three hits with no walks and nine strikeouts, while throwing
a career-high 112 pitches. It marked the club’s first complete game since José Berríos did it on June 7, 2018 vs. Chicago-AL, a span of 724 games between CGs. He also became the first Twins pitcher with a complete-game shutout since Berríos led the Twins to a 7-0 win on April 1, 2018 at Baltimore. The offense recorded 10 hits and were led by Byron Buxton, who went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs, his team-leading 12th and 13th (9th career multi-HR game). His two third deck homers were estimated at 466 feet and 465 feet as he became the first hitter in the Statcast Era (2015-present) with multiple 460-plus-foot homers in the same game. The Twins finished their 10-game homestand with a record of 5-5, going 2-0 vs. Milwaukee, 1-3 vs. Detroit and 2-2 vs. Boston. Minnesota now will begin a nine-game, 10-day roadtrip with three games against the Tigers. The Twins have gone 23-19 at home and 15-19 on the road. Box Score

The Twins lost to the Guardians at Target Field by a score of 11-10 and drop out of first place for the first time since April 24. Jharel Cotton, Emilio Pagán and Griffin Jax combined to allow seven runs in 3 innings of relief. Griffin Jax (4-2) took the loss for the second day in a row after having nor lost a game all season. Twins bats pounded out 12 hits, tying their most this season in a defeat. Gio Urshela went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer. Carlos Correa had two home runs giving him seven on the season. Oddly, Luis Arraez was the only hitter in the starting lineup without a hit. Twins are hitting .264 (144-for-546) with RISP this season, second-best in the AL, trailing Cleveland (.280). Box Score

2020 – The Twins hit the road and move on to Space City, until you remember that nothing has changed, all the games this season have been postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19. 80 games missed so far.

2019 – The Twins were up 3-0 on the Royals in the eighth inning when starter Jose Berrios gave up a single, a WP and then a walk. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli brought in Taylor Rogers but this was one of those rare occasions when he could not stop the bleeding and the Royals tied up the game at 3-3. After a scoreless ninth inning the Twins scored twice in the top of the tenth on RBI by CJ Cron and Eddie Rosario and Blake Parker closed out the game for his tenth Save of the season. Cron had three hits in the game including a home run and Jake Cave and Miguel Sano also hit home runs. Box Score

2018 – The AL West last place Texas Rangers put a good beating on the Twins as three Rangers pitchers hold the Twins to just three hits at Target field in a 8-1 Twins loss. Fernando Romero had another mediocre start when he allowed 4 runs in 6 innings and found a ticket to Rochester in his locker after the game. The recently acquired Matt Belisle pitched the final inning for Minnesota and allowed 5 hits and 4 runs. Box Score

2017 – The Twins vs White Sox game at Target Field is delayed for a team record 4 hours and 50 minutes due to rain. When the game finally begins there are about 5,000 people in the stands and the White Sox score 5 runs in the top of the first inning off Twins rookie starter Nik Turley and the game in essence is over 20 minutes after it finally starts. The final score is 9-0 for the White Sox and the Twins use six pitchers, one of them is catcher Chris Gimenez who makes his sixth appearance on the mound for Minnesota in 2017. The Twins were 0 for 1 with RISP. Attendance or tickets sold is reported as 27,684 for the 3 hour and 21 minute game. Box Score

2014 – The Twins beat the White Sox 6-5 and complete a four-game sweep, their first ever four-game sweep at Target Field where they began play in 2010. The Twins over-come a White Sox five run outburst in the third inning and come up winners by a 6-5 score. It turns out that this little 4 game winning streak will be the longest the Twins see this season. Catcher Kurt Suzuki goes 3 for 4 with  double and center fielder Sam Fuld goes 2 for 3 with two doubles, steals a base, scores twice and has one RBI. Phil Hughes who gives up five runs in five innings get the win. Box Score

2009 – No Game today, scheduled day off.

1984 – In a teary home plate ceremony before the Twins-White Sox game at the Metrodome, Calvin Griffith and his sister, Thelma Haynes, sign a letter of intent to sell their 52 percent ownership of the Twins to Minneapolis banker Carl Pohlad for $32 million (some reports state it was $36 million) ending the longest family ownership of a team in baseball history. Griffith and his sister had been involved with the franchise since 1922, when they were adopted by owner Clark Griffith when the team was the Washington Senators.

The game had a bad ending for Twins fans when the White Sox came back with three runs in the ninth inning off closer Ron Davis to win the game 8-6. Although Davis has pitched well recently, this was his seventh blown save of the season and we are still in June. The Twins record dropped to 33-36 after the loss. Box Score

1981 – MLB on strike.

1978 – Today was originally a scheduled day off but a rainout from April 23 at Met Stadium against the California Angels was played today.

1972No game today, scheduled day off.

1970 – In the fourth inning of the Twins game against the Milwaukee Brewers in County Stadium Rod Carew suffers a serious knee injury with torn cartilage and torn ligaments when Brewers first baseman Mike Hegan rolls in to Carew at second base trying to break up a double play. According to Rod Carew in his book “Carew”, my leg snapped back and went crack! He goes on to say that second baseman umpire Jake O’Donnell had heard the crack and vomited. Carew was hitting .376 at the time underwent surgery and ended up in essence missing the rest of the season. Rod did return for five at bats late in September but did not get a hit. Carew had only 2 plate appearances against the Orioles in the ALCS with no hits. As far as the game is concerned the Twins won 4-3 when Ron Perranoski relieved Jim Kaat after he had given up a 2-run homer to bring the Brewers within one run in the bottom of the ninth and snuffed out the rally bringing his save total for the season to 17. Harmon Killebrew hit a 3-run homer and Cesar Tovar had two hits for Minnesota. Box Score

1962 – The Twins sweep a double-header from the Los Angeles Angels at Met Stadium and up their record to 40-30 and remain just 1.5 games out of first place. The Twins 3-2 win in game one is a bit of an oddity because the home town Twins only get 3 hits with one walk and no RBI. Georges Maranda who only started four times for Minnesota gets the win, his only win in a Twins uniform. This is the first time that the Twins have ever won a game without getting an RBI. Camilo Pascual pitches a complete game in the nite-cap striking out 10 Angels and the Twins win 8-3. Pascual is solid with the bat also going 2 for 4 with a home run and a double, scoring twice and knocking in three.

1961 – The Orioles jumped on Twins starter Jim Kaat for two quick runs in the first inning on a walk and three singles and scored two runs again in the sixth, seventh and ninth innings and beat the Twins 8-2 as Milt Pappas evened his record at 3-3 in a complete game effort. Pappas’s battery-mate Gus Triandos had a huge game going 3 for 5 with 5 RBI and two doubles. The Twins had 8 hits with Zoilo Versalles getting three of them. Killebrew chipped in two hits, one being a double and had the only two Twins RBI. Allison was 0-2 and his hitting streak ended at 13 games. Kaat’s record slipped to 2-7 with the loss as he gave up 9 hits, 5 walks and 6 runs (4 earned) while striking out seven. Box Score
