Minnesota Twins shortstop Royce Lewis will have reconstructive ACL surgery on his right knee for the second year in a row, yet another season-ending setback for the team’s top prospect. The Twins announced the news before they played Tampa Bay on Friday night. Lewis will have the procedure later this month and need a full year to recover. He was hurt in the game on May 29 in a third-inning collision with the wall while making a tough catch in his first, and perhaps only, appearance in center field.

2021 – The Twins prevented a Yankee series sweep at Target Field when they came back from a 5-3 deficit in the bottom of the ninth with four runs and walked off the Bronx Bombers 7-5 on a two-run home run into the juniper bushes in center by Nelson Cruz. The walk-off win was the Twins third this season. It marked their first win when trailing after eight innings this season (1-22). J.A. Happ was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5 innings pitched. Hansel Robles who pitch the ninth inning got the win upping his record to 2-2. For Cruz (2-for-2 with 4 RBI), it marked his first walk-off homer as a Twin. The is the second time that the Twins have hit two home runs off Ardolis Chapman, the first was on June 18, 2016. It was also the Twins’ first walk-off home run overall since Miguel Sanó on August 5, 2019 versus Atlanta and the first first-pitch walk-off homer by a Twin since Brian Dozier on July 10, 2015 versus. Detroit. Additionally, it was the Twins’ first walk-off victory over the Yankees since July 5, 2014, when they won 2-1 in 11 innings, when the winning run scored on a Francisco Cervelli throwing error following Trevor Plouffe’s fielder’s choice grounder. The Houston Astros are waiting in the wings to take on the 25-37 Twins. Box Score

2020 – The Twins should be in the Charm City playing the O’s….. In reality nothing has changed, all the games this season have been postponed/cancelled due to COVID-19. We have now missed 69 games. If that is not bad enough take a look at the past two weeks May 27-June 9) of Star Tribune front pages. Click on image to make it larger.

The Minnesota Twins announced tonight that they have selected infielder Aaron Sabato from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with the 27th overall selection in the first round of the 2020 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. The draft was limited to just five rounds this year due to the COVID-19 situation. Teams can sign unsigned players later for no more then $20K.

2019 – No Game Today

2018 – The Twins avoid a sweep and close out the home stand with a 7-5 win over the Los Angeles Angels at Target Field. Fernando Romero went five innings allowing 3 runs but it was enough for the third win of his career. Jake Cave and Logan Morrison hit home runs for Minnesota but the Cave was the hitting star by going 3 for 4 with a double in addition to his homer. The rookie outfielder also scored twice and had 3 RBI. As the Twins hit the road to Detroit they find themselves with a 28-34 record and in third place in the division, 6 games behind the first place Indians.  Box Score

1968No game today, scheduled day off.

1961 – The lack-luster Twins lose to the Baltimore Orioles 4-3 at Memorial Stadium and their winning streak ends after just one game. The Twins have now lost 19 of their last 21 games. Not much to write home about this game if you are a Twins fan, the Twins could only muster five hits and starter Camilo Pascual (4-7) was not particularly effective and it added up to be a loss for the visiting Twins as their record dropped to 20-33. The rains came down in the seventh with the Orioles coming to bat and a rain delay of about an hour ensued and when the game resumed Pascual was done and Don Lee was the Twins pitcher. The Twins top two starters, Pascual and Pedro Ramos have lost nine straight games between them. What make this game unique however; is that this was the first time that the Minnesota Twins had ever appeared in a nationally televised game. The game was on NBC and the announcers were Lindsey Nelson and Joe Garagiola. The Twin would not have a home game on national TV until April 25, 1964. After the game the Twins left for Boston, the last stop on their six city road trip where they will play a DH tomorrow. Box Score
