Ten different Twins recorded a total of 12 hits. Ryan Jeffers was the only Twins to hit a long ball, his ninth of the season. Bailey Ober became the first Twins pitcher with a hit in his first career plate appearance since José Berríos singled off Bartolo Colon on September 16, 2016 in his first career trip to the plate. Ober also became the tallest player in Twins/Senators history to record a hit. The Twins finished July with an 11-16 record, their fourth losing month in a row. Box Score

The Twins have a three game lead over second place Cleveland who made a number of moves at the trade deadline to beef up their offense. Box Score

Dozier has been in the Twins organizations since he was drafted in round eight in 2009 and has been in the big leagues since 2012 and their regular second baseman since 2013. Dozier will be a free agent after the season ends. The Dodgers sent second baseman Logan Forsythe, and minor leaguer’s outfielder/first baseman Luke Raley and Devin Smeltzer to Minnesota as payment for Dozier, one of the most popular Twins players and kind of Twins player spokesman.

Kyle Gibson pitched OK but that was about it s he went six innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and 3 walks and burnt through 98 pitches. The bright spot for the Twins occurred when the Twins fifth pitcher of the day, Trevor May worked the ninth inning allowing one run on two hits in his first appearance on the mound since September 11, 2016. 2009 – The visiting Angels come from behind to tie the game at 5-5 after eight innings and send the game into extra innings. The Twins use three pitchers in the 11th inning, Bobby Keppel, Jesse Crain and R.A. Dickey but to no avail as the Angels score six times on six hits and hold on to win 11-5 at the Metrodome. Pierzynski singled, which scored Rivas. Michael Restovich then struck out swinging for what appeared to be the final out, but the ball eluded the Orioles catcher. 1970 – How does this happen? It is not often you have a 6 run inning, play errorless ball and also out hit the opponents 16-7 and still find a way to lose the game but the 62-36 Twins did just that. Not to mention for the first time in team history and franchise history, the Twins have two pinch-hit home runs in the same game. Charlie Manual hits one out in the 8th inning and Bob Allison hits one out in the ninth inning but Bill Zepp walks in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth and the Detroit Tigers win 10-9 at Tiger Stadium. Tony Oliva also hit a home run in the game for the Twins. I guess walking 11 does not help. Box Score
1961 – The second All-Star game of 1961 was played in Boston at Fenway Park but after 9 innings the game was determined to be a 1-1 tie due to rain. The first AS game to be called a tie game. The Twins were represented by Harmon Killebrew and Camilo Pascual. Killebrew did not play but Pascual pitched the final three innings for the AL allowing no hits, no runs and just one walk while striking out four. The AL used just three pitchers with Jim Bunning starting and going the first three innings, Bunning had just pitched 7.2 innings against the Twins two days earlier. Home town Red Sox pitcher Don Schwall went the next three innings and allowed the NL their only run. Box Score
