2022 – BOY, THAT ESCALATED QUICKLY, I MEAN THAT REALLY GOT OUT OF HAND FAST: The Twins lost to the Brewers by a score of 10-4 at American Family Field, suffering their third sweep of the season. Chris Archer (2-5) was the starter and loser, allowing a season-high six runs on three hits in 3 innings pitched. Eight of the Brewers’ 10 runs came in the first four innings, including two three-run homers from Rowdy Tellez, off Archer and Jharel Cotton. The Twins offense recorded seven hits Padres only had eight), three from Jose Miranda, who hit his ninth home run of the season. The Twins are now off to San Diego to play the Padres. Box Score
2021 – Just when you think that things can’t get worse for the Twins, you find out you were wrong. The Twins walked-off the Tigers yesterday 6-5 in 10 innings. Today the Twins lose to the Detroit Tigers at Target Field by a score of 6-5 in 11 innings. Kenta Maeda was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing one run on four hits in 6.1 innings pitched. Hansel Robles allowed a grand slam to Eric Haase in the ninth inning, which forced extras and an eventual defeat. t grand slams (ESPN Stats & Info). The Twins gave up a four-run lead in the ninth for the first time since September 7, 2007. The Twins faced a left-handed pitcher for the 36th time this season and now hold a record of 11-25 while facing a southpaw. The offense recorded eight hits, including a career-high three from Brent Rooker. The Twins started the night with a Jorge Polanco single, a Rooker single, a Josh Donaldson walk, followed by Mitch Garver’s first career grand slam. The Garver slam, marking the second time in club history to “lead off” the game with a grand slam, having the first three batters reach base and the fourth batter hit a grand slam, the previous came on April 16, 1961 vs. Baltimore when Bob Allison did it. The Garver and Haase grand slams marked the first time in baseball history that both catchers accomplished the feat in the same game. 2020 – No game today, scheduled day off.
2019 – White Sox starter Ivan Nova (6-9) throws 88 pitches and limits the Twins to just two hits, one walk, and one run (zero earned) over six innings and earns the win. Martín Pérez (8-4) was the starter and loser for the Twins, allowing three runs on seven hits in 6 innings pitched. Twins bats were mostly silent collecting just three hits, two from Byron Buxton. The three hits were their fewest since April 30 versus Houston and marked just the fourth time this season that the Twins recorded three hits or fewer. With the loss the Twins lead in the AL Central dropped to just one game. Box Score
After the game the Twins announced that they acquired right-handed pitchers Sergio Romo and Chris Vallimont, along with a player to be named later from the Miami Marlins, in exchange for first baseman Lewin Diaz.
2018 – Chris Sale holds the Twins scoreless for six innings allowing just three hits while striking out ten and departs after 100 pitches. Lance Lynn throws 103 pitches in his six innings but allows 2 runs on 6 hits. The Twins score once in the seventh to close the gap to 2-1 but that is as close as the Twins can get until the ninth when Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel walks the Twins first batter, retires the second, walks the third and retires the fourth batter leaving two on and two out with Eddie Rosario coming to the plate. Rosario doubles off the centerfield wall for his second hit of the game to score both runners and puts the Twins up 3-2 before Kimbrel gets the third out of the inning. Twins closer Fernando Rodney however; gives up a laser shot home run to the first Red Sox batter of the inning, Rafael Devers and the game is tied at 3-3 and the game goes to extra innings. The Twins fail to score in the top of the tenth at Fenway Park and Twins reliever Matt Belisle gives up a home run to the first and only Red Sox batter Mookie Betts and the Red Sox walk-off the Twins 4-3. Jorge Polanco also had two hits and Belisle obviously took the loss. Box Score
It was an exciting game but a tough loss and made even tougher by the fact that the Twins traded their most popular player Eduardo Escobar who was having a fantastic season to the Arizona Diamondbacks for three minor league players, outfielders Ernie De La Trinidad and Gabriel Maciel and pitcher Jhoan Duran.
During the game the Twins traded relief pitcher Ryan Pressly to the Houston Astros for two minor league players, pitcher Jorge Alcala and outfielder Gilberto Celestino.

2010 – The Twins are on a hitting tear! Twins third baseman Danny Valencia goes 4 for 5 against the KC Royals in Kauffman Stadium and in the process becomes the first Twins rookie to have back-to-back four hit games. Valencia was 4 for 4 the night before against the Royals. The Twins banged out 19 hits in their 11-2 victory over the Royals on July 27th which marked the third consecutive game that Minnesota has registered at least 10 runs and 19 hits (10 runs, 19 hits vs. Baltimore on July 25; 19 runs, 20 hits vs. Kansas City on July 26). Over the last 100 years, only two other teams have scored at least 10 runs with at least 19 hits in three consecutive games in a single season: the Giants in August of 1933 and the Pirates in August of 1928. 2004 – The Twins out scored the White Sox 7-3 at U.S. Cellular Field as Johan Santana gets the win. However; the pitchers must have been in foul moods that day as Santana hit Carl Everett twice and Twins third baseman Corey Koskie was hit three times, twice by Freddy Garcia and once by Damaso Marte. Shortstop Cristian Guzman was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 runs and a RBI. Box Score

1991 – Twins outfielder Dan Gladden‘s three-run homer off Bill Wegman in the 9th enables the host Twins to walk-off Milwaukee 7 – 4. Gladden’s hit follows a bunt single by Shane Mack and a dribbler by Randy Bush. He has now driven in the winner in three straight games. Chuck Knoblauch was 3 for 3 with a triple double and a stolen base. Carl Willis notched his fifth win of the season. Box Score
1990 – The 47-52 Twins put up a 6 in the fifth inning at the Dome and went on to be the 62-37 Oakland A’s 9 to 4. Roy Smith pitched into the seventh inning giving up three runs and getting the win with hitting support from DH Randy Bush to had a double and a home run. Box Score
The Twins send pitcher John Candelaria to the Blue Jays and receive second baseman Nelson Liriano and outfielder Pedro Munoz.
1983 – Brewers third baseman and lead-off hitter Paul Molitor was 5 for 5 with a double, 4 runs scored and two stolen bases. Molitor’s buddy Jim Ganter might have out done him going 4 for 4 with a homer and a double, scoring 4 times and knocking in 4. Milwaukee’s Ben Ogilvie hits a 481 foot shot to the second deck in right field off Brad Havens in the fifth inning in what was regarded as the longest home run ever hit at the Metrodome. Twins third baseman Gary Gaetti did pretty well himself going 3 for 5, scoring three times and knocking in four and he came up a single short of the cycle. The Brew crew went on to win the game 13-9. Needless to say it was not a great game for the pitchers on either team. Box Score.

1978 – Mike Cubbage hits for the cycle at Met Stadium against the Blue Jays during a 6-3 victory and becomes the fifth Twins player to accomplish this rare feat and he did so in just four plate appearances, the first and only Twins player to do so. Rookie Hosken Powell the Twins lead-off hitter was 3 for 3 with 3 runs scored. Stan Perzanowski earns his first win as a Minnesota Twin when he pitches a complete game allowing three runs on six hits and 21 out of 27 outs were ground-balls. The 27-year-old Perzanowski had previously pitched and failed with Chicago, Texas, Cleveland, and California. He was released by the Angels Salt Lake City farm club last August and was signed by the Twins to a minor league deal this past Spring. Perzanowski, a cousin of former Twins reliever Ron Perranoski, posted a 5-1 record with a 2.45 ERA with the Twins AAA Toledo Mud Hens and was called up by the Twins just two days before his start. 1976 – No game today, Twins vs Texas Rangers at Met Stadium was postponed due to rain. Minnesota Twins Home Postponements as compiled by Stew Thornley has this interesting note: The game was postponed at 10:15 p.m. At 10:00 Texas pitcher Bert Blyleven called the Minnesota dugout and, pretending to be an official of the Twins, said the game was being postponed. The message was relayed to the locker room, and the players began undressing and showering before the game was finally called. The game was rescheduled for tomorrow (July 28) as part of a DH.
1961 – The Twins beat the Senators 5-2 with Lenny Green, Jim Lemon, Hal Naragon and Bill Tuttle getting two hits apiece. Killebrew hit his 31st home run of the season. Don Lee pitched a complete game (second straight) and allowed the two runs on four hits to raise his record to 3-2. The 42-56 Twins win was the first time they had won back-to-back games since just after the AS break on July 13-14. The Twins now head out for a long road trip and won’t be home until August 11.
