2015 – The paid attendance at Target Field is 31,545 as the  second place Twins take on the third place Detroit Tigers on a warm 83 degree evening. The Twins send Ervin Santana out to start while the Detroit Tigers counter with Justin Verlander. The Tigers jump on Santana and the Twins with three home runs in the first four innings and take a 6-0 lead. Santana leaves the game after four innings having given up 6 runs on 8 hits while striking out 5.  After seven innings it remains 6-0 for the Bengals until the Twins put their first run on the board in the eighth inning with singles from Eddie Rosario, Kent Suzuki and Brian Dozier sending Verlander to the showers with a 6-1 lead. But it is the ninth inning when the Twins make a huge comeback scoring seven times. Bruce Rondon who got the final out in the eighth inning for the Tigers starts the ninth. Joe Mauer leads off with an infield single, Miguel Sano follows with a ground-rule double, Trevor Plouffe strikes out, Rosario singles scoring Mauer, Joakim Soria replaces Rondon on the mound and proceeds to walk Aaron Hicks, with the bases loaded Suzuki is hit by a pitch scoring Sano, Danny Santana singles scoring two more, and then Brian Dozier hits a three-run home run and the Twins have an amazing 8-6 walk-off win with seven runs in the bottom of the ninth. With the walk-off home run, Dozier becomes the first Twins player to hit two walk-off home runs in a week. What an amazing comeback win, I wonder how many Twins fans stayed to see this incredible finish. The Twins trailing 6-1 heading into the ninth, making it their biggest come-back victory since April 12, 2012 against the Angels. According to ESPN, major league teams training by five or more runs in the ninth inning were previously 0-1,057 over the past two seasons. Trevor May (6-7) who pitched the ninth inning got the win while Soria (3-1) took the loss. Dozier was 2 for 5 with the Twins only home run and four RBI, Sano, Rosario and Suzuki also had two hits each. Dozier had found out prior to the game that he had lost out to Mike Moustakas of the Royals in the voting for the final AL roster spot. Box Score

2007 – No game today. The game was held on July 10, 2007, at AT&T Park, the home of the NL’s San Francisco Giants. The American League defeated the National League by a score of 5–4. Ichiro Suzuki won the MVP award for the game for hitting the first inside-the-park home run in All-Star history. The victory was the 10th consecutive (excluding the 2002 tie) for the AL, and their 11-game unbeaten streak is only beaten by the NL’s 11-game winning streak from 1972 to 1982 in All-Star history. Twins All-Stars were Johan Santana, Justin Morneau and Torii Hunter and all three played in the game. Box Score

2006 – No game today, All-Star break.

2001 – No game today. The 2001 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 72nd playing of the midsummer classic between the all-stars of the American League (AL) and National League (NL). The game was played at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington, home of the Seattle Mariners of the American League. The American League who is on a roll defeated the National League, 4–1. This was Cal Ripken Jr.’s 19th and final All-Star Game. It was also the final All-Star Game for San Diego Padres right fielder Tony Gwynn. Cal Ripken Jr., most famous during his career as a shortstop, was elected as a third baseman to start the game. Texas Rangers shortstop Alex Rodriguez was elected to start at short. However, Rodriguez insisted that Ripken play shortstop for the first inning. American League manager Joe Torre agreed and allowed the change. When fans noticed the fielding change, they gave both players a standing ovation. The move allowed Ripken to set the record for most MLB All-Star appearances at shortstop (15). The Twins had three players named to the All-Star team, pitchers Joe Mays, Eric Milton and shortstop Christian Guzman. Unfortunately, Milton did not get in the game. Box Score

1990 – No Twins game today. We did have an All-Star game at Wrigley Field in Chicago, the home of the Chicago Cubs of the National League. The game saw the American League defeat the National League 2–0. The game is remembered for a rain delay in the 7th inning that resulted in CBS airing Rescue 911 during the delay. The pregame ceremonies celebrated the 85th anniversary of the Great Lakes Naval Training Station which, as with previous All-Star Games held in Chicago, provided the colors presentation. I spent my Boot Camp at the GLNTC in 1965 and also attended Radar “A” school there after Boot Camp. The National League registered just two hits (singles in first and ninth innings) in the contest, the fewest by any team in the history of the All-Star Game. The only Twin to participate was Kirby Puckett who was a reserve. Box Score
