2023 – Twins vice president of player personnel Mike Radcliff passed away today following a three-plus year battle with cancer, the organization announced. He was 66 years old.
2021 – The Minnesota Twins announced today that the club has received approval from Major League Baseball and Lee County, Florida officials to welcome a limited number of fans back to Hammond Stadium at CenturyLink Sports Complex for the 2021 Spring Training season. In accordance with the new protocols, slightly more than 2,400 fans per game (about 28 percent of the normal capacity of 8,730) can attend a 2021 Twins Spring Training home game at Hammond Stadium, as the club has developed a physically-distanced seating plan utilizing “pods” (sold in sets of 2 or 4 contiguous seats only) to maximize guest comfort and safety. Due to limited capacity, season and group ticket plans have been discontinued this spring; existing Twins Spring Training Season Ticket Holders will have exclusive access to purchase single-game tickets for the 2021 spring campaign, prior to any remaining inventory being released to the public.
1987 – The Expos trade ace reliever Jeff Reardon and catcher Tom Nieto to the Twins for pitchers Neal Heaton, Yorkis Perez, Alfredo Cardwood and catcher Jeff Reed. Yes, the same Jeff Reed that has managed the Elizabethton Twins for many years.
1979 – The Twins trade 7-time batting champion second baseman Rod Carew to the California Angels for outfielder Ken Landreaux, catcher Dave Engle, and pitchers Paul Hartzell and Brad Havens.
The same day they make another deal where the Boston Red Sox shipped outfielder Dave Coleman to Minnesota and the Twins give up third baseman Larry Wolfe. Coleman never played for the Twins.
