2023 – Jordan Balazovic will miss the start of spring again, but this time the Twins are disappointed in an entirely different way. Whereas the former top-100 prospect missed time last spring with a knee injury discovered after the lockout ended, president of baseball operations Derek Falvey announced today that Balazovic is out after he suffered a broken jaw in “an altercation away from the field.” Balazovic underwent surgery to wire his jaw shut last Sunday and is unavailable at the start of camp, Falvey said. A team source said Balazovic was struck in the jaw after he was involved in a verbal altercation at an unidentified local establishment last Saturday night. Balazovic never threw a punch of his own and there are no legal issues stemming from the incident. “Obviously it’s a disappointing situation,” Falvey said. “We were hopeful that after he’s dealt with some things over the last couple of years, physically and trying to get on track that we were hoping to start camp in a normal way and kind of progress. He needs to get going from a pitching standpoint here soon and hopefully continue to progress. It’s disappointing. No other way to put it.”
2022 – Major League Baseball and Major League Baseball Players Association have not yet been able to reach a new collective bargaining agreement. Due to the ongoing negotiations, MLB has notified all Clubs that it is no longer possible to play the first week of Spring Training games (February 26 – March 4) as originally scheduled. We are disappointed that we are not able to start as scheduled and apologize for any inconvenience this causes you. MLB is working to get the game back on the field as quickly as possible.
2018 – The Twins acquire pitcher Jake Odorizzi from the Tampa Rays in exchange for minor league infielder Jermaine Palacios who was rated the Twins 23rd best prospect.
