The sport’s owners locked out the players at midnight entering today, initiating baseball’s first work stoppage in 26 years, and the ninth in the sport’s history. Free agency and other player transactions are frozen, and will likely remain so until a new deal is reached. The major league portion of the Winter Meetings is canceled.
2005 – The Florida Marlins and the Twins hook up in a deal, the Twins get second baseman Luis Castillo and the Marlins get pitchers Travis Bowyer and Scott Tyler.
1967 – The Twins acquire first baseman Bob Oliver from the Pirates and give up pitcher Ron Kline.
1966 – The Twins and California Angels swing a big deal as the Twins acquire pitcher Dean Chance and shortstop Jackie Hernandez and give up pitcher Pete Cimino, outfielder Jimmie Hall, and first baseman Don Mincher.
