2010 – Early this Sunday morning the roof collapsed in the Metrodome for the fourth time in the history of the dome. The roof collapsed under 17″ of new snow and high winds. The Twins moved out after the 2009 season and now play at Target field but the Minnesota Vikings call the Metrodome, now called Mall of America Field, as home. The Viking were originally scheduled to play the New York Giants on Sunday but the game was rescheduled for Monday night due to the snow storm. Now, after the roof collapse, the game has been moved to Detroit’s Ford Field on Monday night. An entire new roof was required and it was July 12, 2011 before the new roof was completed and reinflated. Cost to put on the new roof was $22.7 million most of it paid for by insurance.

  1. I met Luis Tiant in Ft. Myers this past March. He was with his wife and they very quite nice. Later the next day, met The Tiant’s. He said his dad could never figure out why the Twins’ dropped his dad after just 1 season. The son said his dad had fond memories of playing with Rod Carew, Harmon K., and Tony Oliva.

      1. Not to mention they released Tiant after one season (he went on to star for the Red Sox in much of the 1970s and they traded Williams for nothing after two seasons.
