2022 – TWINS SHUT OUT ON HOF SUNDAY: The Twins were shut out by the Rangers at Target Field by a score of 7-0 on the day that Dan Gladden and Cesar Tovar became the 36th and 37th members of the Twins HOF. The Twins suffered their 12th shutout loss of the season, tied for fourth most in baseball. Joe Ryan (9-6) was the starter and loser, despite allowing two runs on two hits in 6.1 innings pitched, with three walks and six strikeouts. The offense recorded just four hits, two from Jorge Polanco. All four hits were singles as the Twins went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and the offense is now 1-for-19 (.053) with runners in scoring position through three games in this series against Texas. 2021 – Another day at Yankee Stadium playing the Yankees and another bad loss, this time the final score was 7-1. Twins fans expectations are never high when their team plays the Yankees but today was tougher than normal since the Yankees had Gerrit Cole on the bump. Cole (12-6) went six scoreless innings and gave up just five hits while striking out six and left with a 6-0 lead and obviously got the win. Kenta Maeda started for Minnesota and threw 4 good innings before his arm tightened up in the fifth inning when he retired the first batter then allowed a double, a single and when his next 9 pitches were nowhere near the strike zone, he called for the trainer and was immediately pulled from the game. The Twins scored their only run on a Jorge Polanco home run in the eighth, it was Polanco’s 22nd of the season and matched his career high. The Twins loss meant that they have now lost 14 consecutive series to the New Yorkers. The good news for the Twins was was that after the game they found out that game game scheduled for tomorrow was postponed until September 13 due to Hurricane Henri knocking on the door step. The 54-70 Twins are headed for Boston but they will have two days off before they play again. Box Score
2020 – The Kansas City Royals greeted Twins starter Jake Odorizzi with four runs in the bottom of the first and then send Odorizzi to an early exit in the fourth inning after 67 pitches when Royals outfielder Alex Gordon smashed a line drive off Odorizzi abdomen and put two runners on the bases with no outs. The Royals added three more runs later in the game and won 7-2. , Odorizzi (0-1) took the loss allowing five runs on seven hits in 3 innings. The Twins offense was 0 for 7 with RISP and recorded just six hits, two coming from Ildemaro Vargas. Miguel Sanó hit his eighth double of the season, giving him at least one double in five straight games. Box Score
2019 – The Twins lost to the White Sox by a score of 4-0, just their second shutout of the season. Sox starter Lucas Giolito said this was the best game he pitched in his life. Giolito dominated the Twins allowing just 3 hits, no walks and struck out 12 Twins batters while throwing 115 pitches in his third complete game of the season. Jake Odorizzi (13-6) was the starter and loser, allowing four runs (3 earned) on eight hits in 5 innings pitched. Jonathan Schoop has the only extra-base hit, doubling in the eighth inning. This was game 127 but only the sixth game the Twins have played where neither team homered. Box Score

2018 – The Twins break a 2-2 tie in the top of the ninth when Eddie Rosario singles in the winning run and Jorge Polanco drives in two insurance runs for a 5 to 2 Twins win. The fire-balling White Sox rookie Michael Kopech made his major league debut but pitched only 2 innings throwing 52 pitches due to a 52 minute rain delay. Twins starter Jose Berrios pitched 5 innings but was not involved in the decision as reliever Trevor May picked up his second win of the season. Taylor Rogers got the save. Box Score
2015 – The Twins come from behind with three runs in the eighth inning and beat the Orioles at Camden Yards 4-3. Byron Buxton, Miguel Sano and Kurt Suzuki each have two hits. Casey Fien wins the game in relief and Kevin Jepsen gets the save.
The Twins acquire pitcher Neal Cotts from the Milwaukee Brewers for a PTBNL or cash.
2009 – The Twins defeat Kansas City, 5 – 4 at Kauffman Stadium in a sloppy game that sees both teams’ closers falter. The Twins score three in the 6th thanks to a throwing error, a wild pitch, and a blooper reel play by RF Josh Anderson that allows Denard Span to race around the bases. Coming in to close a 4 – 3 lead in the 9th, Minnesota’s Joe Nathan gives up a two-out home run to pinch-hitter Brayan Pena to send the game into extra innings. The Royals’ Joakim Soria then gives up a single to Alexi Casilla and a triple to Orlando Cabrera to put the Twins back on top and give Nathan another chance to close. But the Royals put two more men on before Mark Teahen finally lines out to right field to end the game. Nick Blackburn started for Minnesota and went 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 3 runs but was not involved in the decision. Box Score

The Twins acquire pitchers Joe Mays and Jeromy Palki from the Mariners when they give up outfielder Roberto Kelly. Jeromy Palki never reached the big leagues.
1980 – The Twins split a doubleheader at Met Stadium with the Detroit Tigers. The Twins won the first game 5-3 behind Albert Williams 7 inning start in which he allowed 7 hits and 3 runs and was credited with the win. Second baseman Pete Mackanin hit the Twins only home run going 2 for 4, scored twice and knocked in two. Box Score game one
The Twins lose game 2 of a DH by a 4-2 score at Met Stadium as Tigers ace Jack Morris allows the Twins just one hit, a first inning single by Rob Wilfong. It was a strange one-hitter because in the first inning Twins center-fielder Wilfong singled and then was picked off first but due to a Jack Morris error was safe and advanced to third base. Roy Smalley grounded out to second and Wilfong scored. In the ninth inning Morris walked Wilfong and then a passed ball by Tigers catcher John Wockenfuss allowed Wilfong to advance to second, then Morris threw a wild pitch and Wilfong found himself on third base with Smalley again at the plate and once again Smalley grounded out to second and Wilfong scored the second run before Morris retired the side. Smalley ended up with two RBI without a hit or a walk. Roger Erickson was the losing pitcher going 7 innings and allowing 11 hits and 4 runs. Box Score game two

1968 – The sixth place Twins take on the fifth place New York Yankees at the Met and waste a great pitching effort by Jim Kaat (9-10) and come up on the short-end of a 2-1 game in aa snappy game that lasted just 1 hour and 58 minutes. Al Downing (2-1) started for the Bronx Bombers and the game was scoreless until the eighth inning when Rocky Colavito (5) homered to deep left to lead off the inning. Twins manager Cal Ermer brought in Ron Perranooski to pitch the ninth but a walk, a single, a pop-up, followed by an intentional walk and a Rich Rollins error led to the second Yankee run in the top of the ninth. Bob Allison homered with one out in the ninth to bring the Twins with-in a run but the Yankees pulled Downing and brought in Lindy McDaniel to record his seventh save for a Yankee 2-1 victory. Downing was the winner and Kaat took the loss. It was a hot 88 degree day at the start of the game and 16,330 fans were at the game. The crowd pushed the Twins attendance over the million mark for the season. The pitchers duel allowed the Yankees five hits and the Twins just three. Box Score

1965 – The Twins are out hit 8 to 6 by the California Angels at Dodger Stadium but win the game 4-2. Zoilo Versalles and Earl Battey each get two hits and Tony Oliva gets two RBI. 21-year-old Twins starter Jim Merritt strikes out 7 in his 7 innings of work and allows just one run for the win. The Beatles played a concert at Metropolitan Stadium. According to the Star Tribune it was the most famous concert held at Met Stadium but only 25,000 attended and few heard the Fab Four because of screams and lame sound system.
