2022 – The Twins lost the three-game series finale to the Angels yesterday afternoon by a score of 4-2. Chris Archer (2-6) was the starter and loser, allowing three runs on four hits in 4 innings pitched. The offense recorded five hits, two each from Carlos Correa and Byron Buxton. Correa singled twice, while Buxton singled and homered, marking his 28th home run of the season. Minnesota went 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position and went 0-for-18 with RISP in their final two games of the series. The Twins are now 16-14-6 in series play this season. The Twins completed their five-game, seven-day southern California roadtrip with a record of 1-4 and dropped out of first place and now trail the Cleveland Guardians by a couple of games. 2021 – The Twins sting the Rays at Target Field by a score of 12-0 while celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the 1991 World Series Champions. The win marked their largest margin of victory in a shutout since beating San Diego by a score of 16-0 on September 12, 2017. Kenta Maeda (6-4) was the starter and winner, pitching six shutout innings with three hits allowed, one walk and four strikeouts. Ralph Garza Jr. made his Twins debut, pitching two perfect innings of relief in his tenth big league game. The offense recorded 16 hits with six different Twins having multiple hits. Brent Rooker, Luis Arraez, Ryan Jeffers and Max Kepler each homered. Kepler’s was the 12th leadoff shot of his career, tying Dan Gladden for fourth on the club’s all-time leadoff home run list. 2020 – The Minnesota Twins have announced that tonight’s (Friday, August 14) 7:10 p.m. game against the Kansas City Royals has been postponed due to inclement (rain and thunderstorms) weather. The game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader tomorrow, Saturday, August 15. The first game (the makeup of tonight’s contest) will begin at 12:35 p.m., with the second, regularly-scheduled game starting 30 minutes after the first one ends. Per the new Major League Baseball rules for the 2020 season, both games of tomorrow’s doubleheader will be seven-inning contests.
2019 – Stealing the headline for the Twins GameNotes, the Twins lose a thriller at Miller. The Twins lost to the Milwaukee Brewers in an afternoon game with 41,077 fans in the stands in Milwaukee by a score of 6-5. The Twins had a nice 5 to 3 lead going into the eighth inning but then the poop hit he fan. Kyle Gibson was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing three runs on eight hits, 3 walks in 5 laborious innings pitched in which he threw 92 pitches (55 strikes). Sergio Romo blew his first save as a Twin, allowing a three-run homer to Trent Grisham in the eighth inning. The Twins tried to battle back in the ninth by not swinging their bats and watched as the bases were loaded with two outs on three walks by Matt Albers but CJ Cron flew out deep to left to end the “threat”. Albers who entered the game with one out threw 21 pitches (8 strikes) to register two outs and at one point threw 9 straight balls. Mitch Garver (23), Miguel Sanó (21) and Eddie Rosario (26) each homered. The Twins flew on to Texas with a half game lead and a 72-48 record. Box Score
2018 – The Pittsburgh Pirates come to town to play two inter-league games at Target Field. Jake Odorizzi wins his fifth game as he strikes out nine and allows 2 runs in 5.2 innings. The Twins had 10 hits including a home run by Miguel Sano, his first at Target Field since last May. There was a lot of talk about Sano cutting off his dread-locks that he has had for a lot time, Sano said that the last time he was in a barber’s chair was 2015. 28,525 fans went home happy as the Twins beat the Bucs 5 to 2. The owners of Major League Baseball’s 30 Clubs today unanimously elected Robert D. Manfred, Jr. as the 10th Commissioner in the sport’s history. The unanimous election of Manfred, who is currently MLB’s Chief Operating Officer under Commissioner Allan H. (Bud) Selig, was announced today by St. Louis Cardinals Chairman & Chief Executive Officer Bill DeWitt, Jr., who served as chairman of the Succession Committee established by the Major League Executive Council.
2011 – No Game Today. Twins game at Progressive Field against Cleveland was rained out and now will be played on September 24 at part of a doubleheader.
2010 – Brian Duensing throws his first career shutout (104 pitches) as he holds the Oakland A’s to 3 hits, 2 walks while striking out 4 in a 2-0 victory at Target Field. Catcher Joe Mauer was 3 for 4 with an RBI, the other RBI came from Orlando Hudson. Box Score

2002 – In a game at the Metrodome that last 14 innings and 4 hours and 33 minutes Orioles catcher Geronimo Gil hits a two-out 14th inning homer off Twins reliever Tony Fiore to give Baltimore a 6 – 5 victory over Minnesota. Earlier, Eddie Guardado had blown a 4-3 Twins lead in the ninth inning. Twins lead-off hitter Jacque Jones had three hits including two doubles, scored three times and knocked in a run. Box Score
1997 – A pitchers duel at Fenway Park between Brad Radke and Jeff Suppan is broken wide open when the Red Sox score five runs in the bottom of the 8th inning on five hits, one walk, and a HBP. Radke’s record drops to 16-7 when he takes the loss. The Twins can only muster six hits with Terry Steinbach and Denny Hocking getting two each. Box Score

1981 – The last double-header played at Met Stadium draws a crowd of only 5,630 baseball fans as the Twins and Seattle Mariners split the twin bill. The two games together last just 4 hours and 24 minutes. In game one which lasts just 1 hour 52 minutes the Twins jump out to a 6-0 lead and coast for a 6-1 win behind starter Albert Williams who goes six scoreless innings and allows just four hits for the win. Jerry Koosman goes the last three for the save. Gary Ward was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBI and a stolen base. Box score game one
In the second game the worm turns as the Mariners jump out to a fast start and pound the Twins 13-3. Roger Erickson was the Twins starter and loser as four different Mariner hitters each had three hits. Jerry Don Gleaton went 8 innings for the win.

1967 – The Twins come from behind at Anaheim Stadium with 2 runs in the 8th inning on an Angels error and two hits and hold on for a 2-1 win to extend their win streak to five and now have a one game lead in the division for the first time this season. Manager Ermer brings in Jim Kaat to get one out in the ninth inning in relief of Dave Boswell who went 8.1 innings and Kaat does just that after he pitched a complete game himself just two days earlier. Worthington then comes in to get the final out for the save and a Twins win. Ted Uhlaender goes 2 for 4 with a double and a RBI. Box Score
1961 – The Kansas City Athletics showed up at Met Stadium and Jerry Walker squared off against the Twins Jim Kaat. Harmon Killebrew’s ten game home run drought ended in the first inning putting the Twins up by one. The Twins scored four more in the third inning with three runs coming on a Billy Martin home run. Kaat who pitched a complete game had only allowed two hits prior to the seventh inning lost his shutout in the seventh when he allowed back-to-back home runs on successive pitches to Deron Johnson and Joe Pignatano but buckled down and finished the game allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four and earned his fifth win against 12 losses in his rookie season. The final score was Twins 6 and the Athletics 2. In addition to the Killebrew and Martin home runs, Zoilo Versalles chipped in 3 hits including a double. Twins owner Calvin Griffith has talked with reporters about moving Versalles to second base next season if he can first acquire a good shortstop. As it turned out, Versalles never played a single game at second base for Minnesota in his seven seasons as a Twin. Box score
