Sonny Gray was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing four runs (3 earned) on seven hits in 4.2 innings pitched. The offense recorded eight hits, three from Luis Arraez and two from Jose Miranda. Jorge Polanco hit his 15th home run, a three-run shot in the third inning that temporarily put the Twins out front, but sadly that would not last.  The loss dropped the Twins out of first place, a spot that they have owned or shared since April 24. The game was played in front of 53,432, making it the highest attendance for a Twins home or road game since Game 163 on October 6, 2009 vs. Detroit at the Metrodome (54,088). The have lost ten-straight to the Dodgers, dating back to April 30, 2014. Now the Twins are on to Anaheim. Box Score

2020 – Randy Dobnak’s start at Miller Park against the Milwaukee Brewers did not start out smoothly as he needed 21 pitches in each of the first two innings giving up one run on three hits and a walk. Dobnak settled down after that giving up just one hit and and no runs over the next three innings lowering his league leading ERA to 0.90. It took just one swing of the bat for the Twins to score all four of their runs in the third inning on Eddie Rosario’s fourth career grand slam home run, his fourth long ball of the season. The Twins had seven hits again today and Ehire Adrianza had two of them. Dobnak was credited with the win upping his record to 3-1 on the young season. Twins relievers allowed one run on four hits and Taylor Rogers got his fourth save. The 4-2 win snapped the Twins four-game losing streak. According to ELIAS Sports Bureau this game marks the third time that a grand slam has accounted for all the runs in a Twins victory with Bobby Darwin doing it on 6/29/73 in California and Gary Gaetti doing it on 5/22/88 in Texas.  Box Score

2018 – The Twins show up at Comerica Park a totally different team then the one that was there in mid-June. Ron Gardenhire’s Tigers take game one of the series 5-3 although being out hit by Minnesota 10 to 4. Throw in two Tigers errors and the Twins should have been easy winners but that was not the case. Ervin Santana took the loss, his first of the season. Ehire Adrianza led the Twins attack with 3 hits in 4 at bats with an RBI. Box Score After the game the Twins announced that DH/1B Logan Morrison would have Hip surgery and would be lost for the season. LoMo was having a terrible season so the Twins will not miss him and probably will not pick up his option for 2019 as surgery rehab could be anywhere from 4-8 months.

Killebrew also hit No. 501 off Cuellar, but the Orioles won 4-3 in 10 innings on a Marv Rettenmund home run leading off the 10th inning off Ray Corbin. Killebrew was 3 for 4 with the two home runs and 3 RBI. Box Score

1969 – For the second time this season, Twins’ second baseman Cesar Tovar breaks up a no-hit bid by an Oriole pitcher with a ninth inning single, Mike Cuellar is the victim this time. Mike Cuellar’s (15-9) string of 35 straight batters retired is ended by Cesar Tovar, who also spoils Cuellar’s no-hit bid in a 2-0 win against the Twins at Memorial Stadium. The line drive by Tovar just went over the glove of a leaping shortstop Mark Belanger leading off the ninth inning at Memorial Stadium. Tovar has the only hit in a game for the third time, and the second time this season. Box Score

1962 – The Los Angeles Angels Dean Chance and the Twins Jim Kaat lock up in a real pitchers duel at Dodger Stadium. Both pitchers go the distance but the Twins come out on the short end of a 1-0 game when Kaat gets the first out in the 11th inning but them gives up consecutive singles to Steve Bilko and Bob Rodgers. 1961 – Yes sir! Another day in Fenway, another Twins loss, another loss by one run. The Red Sox and Tracy Stallard take a 3-0 lead but the Twins scored one in the fifth on a Zoilo Versalles home run and again in the sixth on a Jim Lemon home run but that is all the runs they could muster as they lost 3-2 ending their disastrous 15 game four city road trip with a 5-10 record. Stallard held the Twins at bay until the ninth inning when things got a bit dicey. Earl Battey started the inning with a walk but Stallard retired Ted Lepcio and Zoilo Versalles before PH Joe Altobelli singled moving pinch-runner Pedro Ramos to third. With runners at the corners and sitting on a one-run lead Red Sox manager Pinky Higgins turned to closer Arnold Earley and Twins skipper Mele chose to go with PH Billy Martin batting for Lenny Green. Martin strikes out and the Twins come up short but at least they can finally go home again. The Twins are still in ninth place, 28.5 games behind the AL leading Yankees who now have stretched their lead over Detroit to 3 games. Tracy Stallard wins his first major league game and only one of two games he will win in 1961. Yes, this is the same Tracy Stallard that ends up giving up home run number 61 to Roger Maris later this season. Al Schroll pitched another respectable game giving up 3 runs over 6 innings but all he would get is another defeat, his record now stands at 0-2 on the season. Box Score
