2024 – The Twins beat the Angels again in Anaheim, this time by a score of 16-5. Chris Paddack (2-1) was the starter and winner, allowing four runs on eight hits in 5 innings (95 pitches) pitched with one walk and two strikeouts. The offense recorded 17 hits with all nine Twins in the starting lineup reaching base at least once. The 16 runs and 17 hits both marked season highs. Seven different Twins recorded multiple hits as Edouard Julien reached four times with three hits and one walk in five plate appearances. Carlos Santana homered for the third-straight game and drove in four runs. Ryan Jeffers (5) and Max Kepler (1) also added home runs. The ballclub also went 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position. Tyler Mahle was the starter but did not factor into the decision, allowing one run in 4 innings, exiting with right posterior elbow soreness. Newly recalled Brock Stewart (1-0) earned the win in relief in his Twins debut, pitching 2 scoreless innings with no walks and three strikeouts. It is Stewart’s first big league appearance since September 2019. Four Twins pitchers hold the Royals to just three hits. The offense recorded 10 hits as Christian Vázquez reached three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa hit back-to-back home runs in the fourth inning, for Buxton his fifth of the season and for Correa his third. Zack Greinke was the Royals starter and loser (0-4). Box Score
2022 – The Twins win their sixth in a row when they shut out the Detroit Tigers at Target Field by a score of 5-0, marking their third shutout this season (also, 4-0 on April 11 vs. SEA and 1-0 on April 21 at KC). Joe Smith added a scoreless hitless eighth and Danny Coulombe pitched a scoreless ninth but did allow a hit. The offense recorded nine hits, highlighted by Max Kepler, who went 2-for-3 with his 12th career multi-homer game – giving him three home runs in his last two games. 2021 – The Twins bad play continues at they lose 7-4 to the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field. The loss is their fourth in a row and 13th out of their last 15 games since April 10. The Twins lose their fifth series of the season and drop a season-low eight games below .500. Kenta Maeda (1-2) was the starter and loser, allowing five runs on eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched, including three solo home runs. The struggling Alex Colome was brought in to pitch the bottom of the eighth inning with the Twins trailing 5-4. Colome struck out Franmil Reyes who had already hit two home runs in the game. Then things took a nasty turn when Colome hit Josh Naylor with a pitch, walked Jake Bauers, then struck out Roberto Perez for the second out before walking Andres Gimenez to load the bases. Colome then walked his third batter of the inning, Cesar Hernandez forcing in a run. Manager Rocco Baldelli couldn’t watch any longer and took the ball from Colome and brought in Jorge Alcala who promptly hit Jordan Luplow with a pitch forcing in still another run before striking out Jose Ramirez to finally end the inning that lasted over half an hour. The Twins had eight hits including Byron Buxton’s seventh home run of the year and a rare triple from Nelson Cruz. Box Score
2020 – Day off and travel day for the Twins. The Twins are off to La La land to play the Dodgers and then the Angels. I am not positive but this might be the first time this has ever happened. Oh wait, it still hasn’t happened because we all know the season thus far has been postponed due to COVID-19. Counting today it means we have missed 29 games so far.
2019 – The Twins beat the Orioles at Target Field by a score of 9-2. José Berríos (4-1) was the starter and winner, allowing two runs on seven hits in 6.0 innings with no walks and eight strikeouts. The Twins five home runs, Max Kepler (5 & 6), Jason Castro (2), C.J. Cron (5) and Marwin Gonzalez (2), it marked the fourth time this season that the Twins have hit five-plus homers in a game. With the win the Twins are now 15-9 and have a one game lead in the Central Division. Box Score

The offense recorded 14 hits, with multiple hits from Brian Dozier (2), Max Kepler (3), Logan Morrison (2), Eddie Rosario (2) and Robbie Grossman (3) in a game that lasted four hours, the ninth four-hour game in club history (since 1961) and third since the start of 2017. 2014 – No game today. The Twins versus Tigers game was rained out at Target Field and rescheduled as part of a double header on August 23.
2011 – The Tampa Rays beat the Twins 8-2 in Target Field on a cold blustery night in a game that we attended. The temperature at the start of the game was 40 degrees with a stiff 17 MPH northerly wind blowing in from left field. Shortly after the game began, the snow started falling and flurries lasted the entire game making Target Field look like a giant snow globe. The Twins played Christmas carols as the game went along and a fan that came to the game dressed as jolly old St. Nick danced in the stands. It was a weird day at the old ballpark to be sure. I even over-heard some fans saying that the Metrodome wasn’t all that bad……… The Rays jumped on Twins starter Francisco Liriano for 4 runs in the top of the first inning and in essence the game was over but we didn’t know that at the time. First baseman Luke Hughes had 3 hits in 4 at bats but it wasn’t enough. Rays starter Wade Davis took home the win. Box Score
2010 – In a very unusual game at Comerica Park, the Twins beat the Detroit Tigers 2-0 as Francisco Liriano beats Justin Verlander. Each team had 5 hits but the Tigers had 3 errors. What’s unusual about that you ask? It was one of those rare baseball games when neither team scores an earned run. The Twins used two pitchers and the Tigers had four hurlers take the mound. Since 2001 this has occurred to the Twins just three times and two of the three occurrences were against the Detroit Tigers. Box Score
1995 – The Twins got beat up in Boston yesterday in the Season Opener 9-0 and returned home for their Home Opener today at Metrodome where a “crowd” of 26,426 was waiting to watch some baseball again. Seems more than a bit obvious that some baseball fans are more than just miffed. As it is Kevin Tapani will start his sixth home opener in a row, he won the first three and lost the last two. Ben McDonald gives it a go for the visiting Baltimore Orioles. The Twins scored first and last and were 7-4 victors on this day. Both starters went five innings and both gave up 3 runs although only one of McDonald’s was earned and yet they both took a ND for this game. The Twins relievers were better today and Dave Stephens (1-0) got the win even though he was the only one of four Twins relievers to give up a run. Brad Pennington (0-1) took the loss for the Orioles. Twins catcher Matt Merullo and DH Jerald Clark each had two hits and two RBI. Chuck Knoblauch and Scott Leius also chipped in two hits apiece. Box Score
1994 – Scott Erickson, who allowed the most hits in the majors the previous season, pitched Minnesota’s first no-hitter in 27 years and the Twins third no-hitter as the Twins beat Milwaukee 6-0 at the Metrodome. Erickson threw 129 pitches and struck out five Brewers in front of an announced crowd of 17,998 in just 2 hours and 40 minutes. Box Score

1980 – The Twins score 10 runs in the first inning on their way to a 20-11 thrashing of the Oakland A’s at Met Stadium. Minnesota starter Geoff Zahn can’t hold the 10-0 lead, allowing 8 runs in 4 1/3 innings, and Doug Corbett picks up the win by pitching the last 4.2 innings. The Twins pounded out 20 hits but the big stick belonged to third baseman John Castino as he went 4 for 5 with 4 RBI and 1 run scored. Box Score

1969 – Harmon Killebrew hits his 400th HR but it was Rod Carew‘s 2-run home run in the 7th inning that was the actual game winner and the Twins took over first place in the AL West by beating Chicago 4-3 at White Sox Park. After the Twins batted in the top of the ninth and had a 4-3 lead, an hour and 6 minute rain delay caused the game to be called and the existing rules made the Twins the winners. Dave Boswell was credited with the win by pitching a complete 8 inning game on the road. Box Score Standings
1965 – The Twins score 7 in the top of the first inning with the crushing blow being a Camilo Pascual grand slam home run off relief pitcher Stan Williams in a 11-1 Twins win over the Indians in Cleveland Stadium. Indians starter Sudden Sam McDowell doesn’t even last one inning. Camilo pitches a complete game two hitter and strikes out five in the process. Pascual is the first and only Twins pitcher to hit a grand slam home run. Pascual had also hit a grand slam home run as a Washington Senator at Yankee Stadium I on August 14, 1960 in a 5-4 win over the New York Yankees. Box Score
1961 – The expansion Los Angeles Angels play their first home game bowing to the Twins at Wrigley Field in Los Angeles, 4-2 in front of only 11,931 fans. Twins catcher Earl Battey was 2 for 4 with a 3-run homer and a run scored. Twins starter Camilo Pascual pitched 7.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs and pocketed the victory, Angels starter Eli Grba took the defeat. The 74-year old baseball legend Ty Cobb, in his last-ever visit to a ballpark, throws out the first ceremonial pitch. This was the first American League game to ever be played in Los Angeles.
