1969 – There were only 7,085 fans paying fans on hand on Thursday afternoon to witness the A’s beating the Twins 6-4 to split a four game series at two games each. But the fans saw more than they bargained for when they saw Reggie Jackson charge Twins rookie pitcher Dick Woodson and take him down. Jackson had hit two home runs off starter (and loser) Dave Boswell earlier and Woodson wanted to settle the score I guess. His first pitch to Jackson leading off the fifth with the Twins down 5-0 was high and tight behind Jackson and when Woodson’s next pitch went about four feet over the head of the batter, catcher and umpire, Jackson threw his bat down and charged Woodson knocking him down. The dugouts and bullpen’s emptied and it took about 3 or 4 minutes to calm everyone down. Jackson was eventually asked to leave the premise. The Twins came back with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and scored again in the sixth and seventh but came up short 6-4. Rod Carew had three hits and Tony Oliva hit a home run but the A’s prevailed and Blue Moon Odom got the win for Oakland. The loss dropped the Twins record to 8-6 and tied for first place in the AL West with the Royals. Box Score

1965 – The Twins five-game winning streak is snapped when they get walked-off by Detroit at Tiger Stadium 7-4 after scoring twice themselves to take a 3-2 lead in the top of the ninth inning. The Tigers come back with four in the bottom of the ninth. The trouble starts when Jerry Fosnow (1-2) gives up a game tying home run to Willie Horton to lead off the bottom of the ninth to tie the game at 3-3. Fosnow then gets a ground out, gives up a walk, strikes out pitcher Larry Sherry (1-0) but walks Jerry Lumpe. That is it for Fosnow as the twins bring in Al Worthington and the Tigers counter with Gates Brown pinch-hitting for Don Wert (who was 3 for 3). Brown homers to deep right for his first HR of the season and the ballgame is history. The Tigers had three more errors today in 42 degree temps with just 3,596 fans looking on during the 3 hour and 5 minute game. Box Score
