Whether folks know it or not, casinos have contributed a lot for the betterment of the sporting events and teams in Minnesota. The Twins, in particular, have found a good partner in Treasure Island Resort & Casino, one of the founding partners of the team’s current stomping grounds, Target Field.
Even back when the Twins still held court at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, Treasure Island had been supporting them in the background for over a dozen years. Now, Treasure Island is part of the Minnesota Twins Community Fund, an initiative that “enriches local and regional communities by providing resources for the healthy development of children and families through an association with baseball, softball and the Minnesota Twins.”
The relationship doesn’t stop there. Former Twins first baseman Justin Morneau has also found casino games as a great way to not only connect with fans but to promote and raise money for a good cause. To do just that, Morneau and his wife Krista started the Morneau Casino Night, a charity event for the Arthritis Foundation North Central Chapter.
Professional baseball players and fans alike were out there playing typical casino fare like poker, blackjack, and the physical precursors to the Castle Jackpot generation’s digital online slot machines. The annual event has so far invested over $250 million in arthritis research.
Even fans are getting a chance to celebrate their love for the Twins as well as their fascination with casino games. Back in August, a Twins-branded “Legends of the Game” casino table was put up for auction as part of the Twins’ Broadcast Auction.
The custom table, which features baseball bats signed by past Twins players and a plexiglass display of baseballs with pictures of team legends, was built by Weber and Vision Custom Design. Interestingly enough, the design shop’s owner, Kurt Weber, happens to be Twins closer Glen Perkins’ father-in-law. You can’t get more authentic than that.
