Twins Minor League Player of the Week

Brian Dozier

This week (April 5-13)  the Twins Minor League Player of the Week is none other than Rochester infielder Brian Dozier. Dozier,  24, appeared in six games hitting .391 (9-for-23) with three doubles, a home run, four RBI’s and three walks. Dozier, who was drafted by the Twins in the eighth round of the 2009 amateur draft.  The right-handed swinging Dozier hit .277 (13-for-47) with three home runs and nine RBI’s in 22 spring training games. Dozier was drafted out of the University of Southern Mississippi and signed by scout Earl Winn.

September 6, 2011 – Ft. Myers (Florida St. League – Single-A) right handed pitcher Alex Wimmers is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for August 27 – September 3. Wimmers, 22, made two starts for the Miracle, including throwing a 7.0 inning no-hitter on September 3rd vs. Jupiter. Alex walked two and struck out five. Wimmers was drafted by the Twins in the first round (21st overall) of the of the 2010 First-Year Player draft out of The Ohio State and began his professional career in 2010 and posted a 2-0 record with a 0.57 ERA in four starts. Twins Minor League Player of the Week

August 28, 2011 – Elizabethton (Rookie Appalachian League) outfielder Niko Goodrum is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for August 13-19. Goodrum, 20, hit .481 (13-for-27) with two doubles, one triple, one home run, nine RBI’s, four walks and eight runs scored in seven games with the E-Town Twins. Goodrum was drafted by the Twins in the second round of the of the 2010 First-Year Player draft and he began his professional career last season in the Gulf Coast League.

August 22, 2011– Elizabethton (Appalachian League – Rookie) pitcher Tim Shibuya is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for August 13-19. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound right-hander, was drafted out of the University of California-San Diego. Shibuya, 21, made one start, August 16 vs. Bristol, allowing one run on two hits in 7.0 innings, with no walks and 12 strikeouts, earning the win. Shibuya, who was drafted by the Twins in the 23rd round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft, has gone 7-2, 3.56 (60.2 innings pitched, 24 earned runs) with 10 walks and 59 strikeouts in 11 starts for E-town this season.

May 22, 2011 – Ft. Myers infielder Brian Dozier is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for May 14-20. Dozier hit safely in six of seven games last week for the Miracle (includ­ing three games with three hits), batting .433 (10-for-30) with two doubles, two triples and seven RBI. Dozier, 24, was selected by the Twins in the eighth round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern Mississippi. For the season, in 40 games, Dozier has batted 149 times and is hitting .315 and has scored 28 runs, hit 1 home run, knocked in 15 runs, and stolen 10 bases while playing shortstop. Dozier has committed 8 errors.

Twins Minor League Player of the Week

May 1, 2011 – New Britain (Double-A, Eastern League) right-handed pitcher Cole DeVries is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for April 23-29. DeVries made two relief appearances for the Rock Cats, recording two saves, allowing one run on one hit in 5.0 innings (1.80 ERA), with no walks and nine strikeouts. DeVries, 26, was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent out of the University of Minnesota, he has not allowed a run in seven appearances (14.2 innings pitched) this season, while converting all four of his save opportunities. Twins Minor League Player of the Week

April 26, 2011 – Florida St. League Twins infielder Nate Hanson is the Minnesota Twins Minor League Player of the Week for April 16-22 In seven games with the Ft. Myers Miracle last week, Hanson batted .357 (10-for-28) with four runs scored and two home runs, including a walk-off grand slam on April 20. Hanson, 24, was drafted by the Twins in the 28th round of the 2008 First-Year Player draft. New Britain left-handed pitcher Tyler Robertson is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for July 23-30. Robertson, 23, was 1-0 with one save in three appearances for the Rock Cats. Tyler did not allow a run and recorded seven strikeouts while walking three batters in his 5.0 innings of relief work last week…Robertson was selected by the Twins in the third round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft out of Bella Vista (Ca.) High School. Robertson entered 2011 with a career 30-32 minor league record and a 3.71 ERA over 98 appearances (95 starts).

July 24, 2011 – Beloit (Midwest League – Single-A) right-handed pitcher B.J Hermsen is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for July 16-22. Hermsen, 21, was drafted in the sixth round of the of the 2008 First-Year Player draft out of West Delaware High School in Iowa. Hermsen was 1-0 in one start for the Snappers as he recorded five strikeouts while walking just two batters in the 7.0 inning win. B.J. is 10-6 in his second season with Beloit with a 3.14 ERA in 106 innings of work while giving up 110 hits, 28 walks and 68 strikeouts.

Ft. Myers (Florida St. League – Single-A) left-handed pitcher Logan Darnell is the Twins Minor League Player of the Week for July 9-15. Darnell was drafted in the sixth round of the of the 2010 First-Year Player draft out of the University of Kentucky. Logan made his professional debut last season with Elizabethton appearing in 11 games (five starts). Darnell, 21, was 2-0 in two starts for the Miracle, he recorded 10 strikeouts while walking just two batters.
